May 19th, 1944 Peter Mayhew was born in a small district of South London called Barnes. Peter was working at a Yorkshire Hospital when Charles H Schneer discovered him and one year later Peter was asked to audition for “a big hairy beast” that we’d all come to love as the best co-Pilot anyone could ever ask for – the mighty Chewbacca. We were invited to an amazing visit to the Ronald McDonald House in Salt Lake City to bring toys that had been donated by Holocron Toys (@holocrontoystore) for legendary actor @john_rhys_davies to give to families battling illness and disease. At Dallas FanExpo 2022, The Peter Mayhew Foundation partnered with @Whatnot to auction off an incredible donation of Peter’s final autograph, signed at Star Wars Celebration Chicago in 2019, a Chewbacca Satchel and Bandolier made by Mel Mattson. During FanX Salt Lake, the winner of that auction, Kevin Laslie, very kindly brought it back to our booth to show us the new signature additions and have a chat about how special winning that auction was for him. The Peter Mayhew Foundation made some new friends recently from @youth.center.tx. Adriana McKinnon, the CEO of Youth Center of Texas, shared with us that some of the survivors that they serve are now starting families of their own. We dove into their Amazon wishlist (link in our bio) to make sure these young mothers to be had plenty of presents to open and key pieces to start their child off right – we provided strollers, car seats, bassinets and other key items that every newborn needs to have a safe and happy start.
