I’ve hired 20 people who have survived or been directly impacted by incarceration into full time jobs or contracts across the companies, organizations and productions I’ve led since coming home from prison. This is one of my proudest achievements. We do business differently. We come from a world where we rely on each other to survive, so we build mutuality, reciprocation and equity into everything we do. I call on my other community—the business community—where we have been trained to see extraction as normal—to learn from this.
