Rob Greenfield Instagram – I compost my poop and I’m not ashamed of it.
In fact, I take great joy in the act and in sharing this practice with others.
These are two buckets of my own poop (mixed with sawdust of course) from my time in Los Angeles. I’ve used a flush toilets only a couple dozen times since I left Asheville 3 months ago.
I’ve been taking part in the practice of composting poop, also called “humanure”, for close to a decade now. It is safe, effective and both a local and global solution for the times we are in.
What I love about this practice is that it requires no money or resources, is very easy to do, and makes an instant positive contribution to our ecosystems. On the larger scale, if as a humanity we embraced this practice we could build our soils back up, break free from industrial fertilizers and corporate control and create incredible biodiversity and resilience. Imagine 8 billion humans poop being composted back into our soil, rather than flushed down the drain or dumped haphazardly.
I have shared my love for the practice of humanure with thousands of people over the last decade. Today, I am looking for someone in LA who would like to start composting their poop at home. I’ll come over and build the simple compost toilet and compost pile with them. And I’ll kick start the pile with the contents of these two buckets! If this is you, please comment or email me!
Love,
Robin
