Soham Majumdar Instagram – Circa 2013. This was that moment beautifully captured by ABC photography where I was playing the character of Abani Shom which was a part of the bengal adaptation of The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui. While crafting this character I remember watching a lot of Adolf Hitler documentaries as the character sort of represents how Hitler could be anybody. Madness is like gravity as they say. Little do you realise that sometimes it is scary going to play a character as you tend to grow an empathy for the person that you play. You cannot and will not judge him. Maybe they had one human moment. Maybe even that was a farce. Maybe we all need to calm down and think about perspectives. I was about a whole of 19 odd years and perhaps didn’t understand the absolute depth of the text, or maybe the rawness is what you needed the most to represent it. Maybe I shall play this character differently if given a chance now.
