Blues Skies at the Whitlam House in Cabramata. Designed by Roy Appleton in 1957. “Gough Whitlam’s home was intrinsically linked to his political life. As the Member of the Australian Parliament for Werriwa from 1952 to 1978, the home served as the backdrop to his service – constituents, seen approaching through the kitchen window as they walked up the driveway, were invited into the living or dining rooms to talk about their matters of concern. The home was a frequent host to political functions, celebrations of electoral victories, and sombre reflections on losses.” I’m still processing my visit to this home which is continuing to be restored by @thewhitlaminstitute

MOTEL at the Radford House in Kiama, NSW. Join us for a sentimental motel journey on our east coast tour in this fabulous 1960s beach house. Saturday September 21. Tickets via the link Radford House is a 1960’s mid-century modern residence overlooking Easts Beach, Kiama, NSW. Trace Architects (@the_modernist ) of Sydney were engaged to carry out a renovation, pavilion extension and swimming pool of the house including interiors and joinery. Sympathetic refurbishment/ renovation works to the original house included extensive repairs to the existing fabric of the existing house and restoration and partial rebuild of the 1960’s steel frame windows. Three mid-century style bathrooms, kitchen, display and robe joinery also formed part of the works to the original house. The standout feature is the swimming pool. The fully mosaic tiled pool sits largely above ground as a sculptural element orientated towards the view of Easts Beach and on axis with the face brick circular fire pit set in the landscape surrounds. 📷 @simonwhitbreadphoto

Vale Dr. Bill Lyons. I met Bill through my Designing a Legacy project, and filming the story of how he commissioned Robin Boyd to design his Sydney home was an absolute pleasure. I was very fond of him and always learned something new from him during our chats. I’ll never forget the warm embrace we shared after the premiere screening of the film at the Sydney Opera House, and the scratchy feel of his sports jacket. His life was truly remarkable – a Robin Boyd-designed home, an E-Type Jag, a beautiful family, a skilful surgeon- he pioneering knee replacements, and even managed to meet Elon Musk! Rest well, mate. My love and condolences go out to Sandi, his children, and grandchildren.
Doing one of those weird deep dives and found this bad boy. The Stable Table by Brava from the 1980s. It felt like everyone had one of these back in the day. 📷 via @thepropcollective
