Vikas Khanna Instagram – On Christmas Eve 2000, I landed in the queue outside 90 Lafayette Street, Bowery Mission (formerly known as New York Rescue Mission). The oldest homeless shelter in the U.S. This was a low time of my life & in my mind between freezing New York & a lonely immigrant heart I had decided to leave New York for good. Suddenly a woman hands me a blanket & wished me Merry Christmas. I went downstairs & had a Christmas feast & a few residents sang carols. It felt like home. I stayed there for a few weeks, worked in the kitchen & made a new family that uplifted my soul. I got some catering orders of Dhoklas & it helped me stand on my feet. So, every time I begin a new venture…I want to honor my favorite place, my first home in the city. Thank you everyone for accepting my invitation & honoring my kitchen at @bungalowny 6 Days To Go!
