This song has been a comfort since @alicegreczyn suggested I listen to, and cover it. Originally performed by Ricky Nelson, and written by Baker Knight in 1958. ‘Lonesome Town’

Living my best life, hbu 🫠
This song was written as an exercise called #WhatWouldTaylorWrite? as a challenge to myself to write a song that @taylorswift might write 😋 After nearly losing my sanity last election cycle, I moved to Nashville, and was able to recalibrate and refocus on God and healing. Being back in the south naturally led me to be more focused on my relationship with Jesus, in a way that didn’t feel forced down my throat. My life has steadily become more and more peaceful since then, though not without grief, growing pains, challenges, and loneliness. However, what I’ve really come to find in my spiritual walk is this, and something my acting coach often reminds us in class: We focus on what’s important to us. While rights and policies and government are important, they cannot be more important to me than my day to day living. I cannot allow politicians and people who don’t see me to continue robbing me of my peace, my presence, my gifts, and responsibility to use those gifts to create art that will hopefully change the world. This season of life has been all about allowing God to pull me in, and in doing so, I have become far less emotionally destabilized by anything or anyone that doesn’t align. Accepting Grace has allowed me to extend Grace in ways I used to not be capable. I am blessed in my imperfection and enough in it. I am more focused on what is important and less on what I can’t control. I am at peace with slowing down and being more discerning and treating myself and my time with immense value. It’s a practice. We are much more powerful in our full light – scars, trauma, vulnerability and all – than in our hatred, anger, greed, jealousy, and self-righteousness. I encourage you to not let the shit show that is our country and our world to rob you of the experience of your soul. That’s how the war is won. *Lyrics in Story*
Nowhere I’d rather be this #earthday . One thing I learned this past year is that I need to prioritize time in nature. Where I often feel isolated and depleted in man’s world, I feel connected and energized in Gaia’s. How humbling to know that the planet gives everything to sustain us – and yet there is little we can do to give back to Her other than to praise her, shepherd her fragile ecosystems, and speak up for her rights on the world stage. She is proof that one can be full of spines and vines, shadows and venom, and possess unfathomable beauty. Beauty being reason for these survival mechanisms, after all. She doesn’t care about your business, your background, your status, your achievements, or your possessions; and yet, she can nurture you in ways these things cannot. She exists of her own accord and produces in abundance whether we show gratitude or not. She is a living, breathing, conscious, and remembering being. She is our lifeblood. Our shared reality while we exist on this plane. Let’s thank her for providing an incredible stage to carry out our human plays, and vow to treat her with more reverence than ever before. 🌈

You got me feeling’ wavy 🌊
It’s #earthmonth and I want to take a moment to remind you how awesome #trees are. I have always felt a deep affinity for trees. I remember once walking on a quiet street in Germany at dusk, yellow street lights glowing, and a light mist hanging in the air. I had my headphones in, listening to music, and happened to look up as I was approaching a tree, and a wave of emotion in the form of grief came over me, followed immediately by gratitude for this tree. I couldn’t really explain why. It didn’t seem particularly old. But for a moment I saw myself from the tree’s perspective: whole, and for who I truly am – without the humanistic bullshit we constantly project onto others, and ourselves feel ensnared by. I felt seen by a tree! 🥹 It spoke to me as if to say, “Remember child, you are the dreamer. And I am so happy to be in this dream with you.” And with that revelation, even if only for a brief moment in time, I felt kissed by truth. I remembered the sacredness of our relationship to trees. That we couldn’t breathe without each other. So normalize hugging trees and thanking them. Normalize planting them when we’ve cut them down. Normalize preserving very old trees. Normalize seeing trees as a very integral, non-judgmental part of you 🌳
