💌a love letter to my dream university💌 i never thought i would be here today. growing up, my dad talked about his undergrad days like campus was a theme park. it felt like a far off dream so every day that i got to attend lecture and be on campus was a good day. my education included coding in R, social network analysis, archaeology of the african diaspora, political communication, constitutional law, and more. ended up with a 3.983 and it costed a bit of my mental sanity, so it’s really not the flex i hoped it would be. i was lucky enough to get to film two incredible movies during my time at ucla (you might have seen them 😉) thank you to my academic counsellor who assured me that i could juggle both my love for acting and my need to learn as much as i can in this life. thank you to my professors (huppin, @archfieldnotes, soroka, and von blum to name a few) who made my world bigger and challenged me to pursue my passion in and outside of the classroom. i am humbled and excited by the knowledge that has been imparted on me. i would be remiss if i did not also write about the heartbreak and trauma that my undergraduate years gave me. and no, i’m not talking about the thirty page research papers or the all nighters fueled by only caffeine. explosions from rubber bullets and nightmares of snipers on the roof of a lecture hall still remain…and to think i use to stress about finals in that exact building. i will tell my children about the history i bear witness to. in the shining faces of my peers i have found myself and my community. i am forever grateful that the woman i am and will become is in part because i got to attend my dream university. stanford law, i’ve got my eye on you next!
