I tried to write the song for my friend Gregory. I knew he really loved ‘That’s What Friends Are For.’ I wanted to write something as big and enduring as that for him. I used to cry every night when I sang that song. I was so mad. I was mad that my friend was gone. I didn’t understand. And then all of a sudden my friend was ill and then…It was so hard.
