Do you know how central goddesses once were to Irish mythology and culture but that while their presence was sidelined by emergent patriarchal forms, they are now re-emerging, and with that a whole new (ancient) set of references that we might live according to ✨✨✨ Did you know that according to Irish legend the Irish are descended from the daughter of an Egyptian Pharaoh exiled to Ireland?! Apparently an Egyptian princess named Scotia (according to Lebor Gabála Érenn) was the mother of Goidel Glas, the eponymous ancestor of the Gaels (the Irish) While other sources tell us that Scota was actually the wife of Geytholos (Goídel Glas), and that they became the founders of the Scots and Gaels, after they were banished from Egypt and ended up in what later became Ireland ! Profound thanks to @jimfitzpatrick for first introducing me to this information. Anyway some sneak peeks from something new I’ve been working on, which will launch very soon ✨🧝🏽♀️🧜🏽♀️🧚🏽♀️✨

July was 🔥 Jamaica ~ man like Bogle !!! Revolutionary histories are my jam. Visited Emancipation Park in Kingston and this statue of Paul Bogle who on 23 October was hanged for organising the Morant Bay rebellion, despite his death the rebellion is seen as a turning point in Jamaican history. With the impact of Bogles objective of improving the political and economic conditions of the poor beginning to be felt and the whole incident paving the way for new attitudes ( I love the similarities between Jamaica and Ireland in that that so many of the national heroes are people who fought British imperialism oppression) Deeply stimulating convo @cartier discussing the role of the artist, and covering everything from the relationship between quantum physics and ancestral time to the invention of race Delighted to be a part of the Sky Arts Awards Literature Jury @skyarts so brilliant to see gifted friends recognised in other categories too ( @blindboy @lindsaymendrick am looking at yeeeeee 😍) Hair is hairing ➰➿➰ The most wonderful conversation with @tavaresstrachan discussing everything from the transmission of African ontologies through music and other “informal” sites of knowledge production in the Caribbean, to space travel, as part of his mind-blowing exhibition: There is Light Somewhere on @hayward.gallery GO SEE IT NOW !!! @esdevlin spellbinding installation part of Reverb exhibition @180.studios A very special custom made Claddagh Ring emphasising aspects of Irish culture that I’m channeling atm YOU BELONG HERE @hayward.gallery (know this intimately don’t let anybody attempt to make you feel otherwise, these revolutionary histories didn’t happen for nothing ya zimme)
