I went in very early on Thursday morning for a “Standalone ALIF” on L5/S1, which means the surgeons opened me up from the front, below my bellow button. That way they could get the best access to the disk, and could also leave my back muscles untouched!
I was out of surgery and awake again by 11am – and that same afternoon I was already walking the hallways & able to do steps! 👏🏼😭 But because of the anterior approach, the surgeons wanted to keep me overnight at the hospital, and I got to come home on Friday!
My worst day ended up being yesterday (saturday) & early today, but that was probably to be expected & just a part of this process ❤️ I think & I HOPE that I am over the hardest part now & it feels so good to know that one day at a time I am one step closer to a healthy strong back!
