With every passing day it becomes clearer to me that while we are all the stars of our own movie, we are ultimately a part of the same film. Sometimes we’re the good guy, sometimes we’re the villain, the background artist, the crew…but we are very rarely the director. We can try, but the story likely will not take shape the way we intend, despite our most dedicated or stubborn insistence that it be done our way. All we can control is our own performance. This is so hard when we are tired, full of grief, anger or frustration. All of this is to say that I continue to learn that while I cannot truly know what the next scene will be I still have to stay in it. Commit to it. Remembering that we’re all doing our best, and hoping that the other players remember that of me. Hoping your Sunday, and all the days, are filled with empathy and love in all directions. 🤍

I have to share this story because it has filled my heart with so much peace, joy and comfort and I can’t keep it inside!
✨
Last night I had the pleasure of performing with my musical husband @therealtoddalmond for the @sinfoniagulfcoast gala.
✨
Two nights ago I was sitting on the beach in beautiful Destin Florida, watching the waves, the sky, the moon. And the ache of missing my Mamoo made my heart feel so big and sore. I let the tears wet my face and I said out loud “Mamoo if you are still with me give me a sign. Please show me that you’re still here with me because I need you”. Last night at the concert I spoke about my Mamoo and a lovely woman in the front row looked up at me and said “I called my grandmother Mamoo!” I have never met another person who called their grandmother Mamoo.
✨
And there she was. I burst out laughing because my Mamoo, brilliant and bold Elsie Jones, has never been known for being subtle!
✨
She will always be with me. Last night she told me so.

Happy Birthday to the best Gaga, Mother, and Mother-in-law in the game! We love you @lisabrownrealestate! 💐 🎂
On this first day of school for many of our kids I wanted to share these powerful words written by my wonderful friend @samanthakilgore777:
“Special shout-out to the parents of neurodiverse and disabled kids as we send them off into a world that does not always love them back. Our mornings are hard. We may need to walk our kids through something 40 times, knowing that they still might not get it the 41st. We try to balance between teaching them skills and abilities that seem to come like magic to other kids while not frustrating them completely. Back to school vaccines and check-ups sometimes mean blackened eyes. We’ve spent hours pouring over IEPs, fighting to make sure our kids are seen and supported and knowing, too, that even with all the supports in place, they may not be treated kindly. The IEPs may not be followed. That to their teachers, a successful day means they didn’t melt down or have an accident while we are praying that they make just one damned friend. Just one. We hope that there is adequate staffing and that the staff reads the IEP. We hope if something bad is happening, our kids have the ability to articulate it to us.
We build delicate towers of supports and accommodations around our kids, fighting for every inch of space that other kids are entitled to without question. We fight, then we send them off with sore, scared hearts into a world we know does not love them the way they deserve and need to be loved.
So I see you. I know your morning was brutal and even now, you’re holding your breath, counting the minutes until they’re home safe with you.”
