Lauren Tom Instagram – Last week, the @us.asia.institute , my brother, and I hosted an event for 325 people at @skirball_la called “Empowering AANHPI Voices: Challenges and Moving Forward “
The evening was filled with informative speakers, a vibrant panel, videos, celebrities, food, and live entertainment. But mostly (for me at least) it was an evening of love, connection, gratitude, and hope.
Many thanks to all the presenters, speakers,awardees, panelists, performers, staff, and volunteers who helped celebrate the @us.asia.institute ‘s 45th anniversary, and honor @billimada @repjudychu and my mother, Nancy Tom, for their decades of service to the Asian community.
Special thanks to my Joy Luck Club cast mates and producer— Ming, Tamlyn, Rosalind, and Janet who are truly the sisters I never had.
Who knew this movie, about Asian mothers and daughters, would also create a bond between us that has lasted 30 years and counting! Their support and participation meant the world to me and seemed a fitting tribute to the movie, my mother, and their own mothers as well. We all try so hard to be good Asian daughters!😂
And finally, thanks to everyone who attended!
You were all so present, warm, and generous that it made our jobs easy and a joy.
My family and I will cherish this night always.
