Happy birthday, Malia! No matter how old you get, you’ll always be my little pea and I’ll always be proud of you. You deserve the world and more. ❤️
@AliciaKeys, you’ve done it again! I absolutely loved every second of @HellsKitchenBway and found myself singing and dancing the entire night. I know how hard you worked to bring this production to life, and I could feel your creativity and light shining all the way through. You and the cast should feel so proud! ❤️

Kids consume an average of 53 lbs. of added sugar per year, mostly from sugary drinks—that’s absurd. But a drink with 70% less sugar that also tastes delicious? That’s Absurdly Good. I’m proud to announce that @ayeshacurry and I joined team @plezinutrition along with co-founder @michelleobama to do our part in raising a healthier generation. #PLEZiPartner
This Mandela Day, I want to tell you about an inspiring leader who is following in Madiba’s footsteps – Thokozile “Thoko” Nhlumayo. Thoko serves as the Secretary General of the International Youth Parliament and founded the #nottooyoungtolead movement to advocate for more young people to be given opportunities to get involved in government. She’s also a published author who proudly shares her story as a queer activist and encourages others to share their own stories. While in South Africa last fall, I had the chance to meet Thoko and hear more about her story along with some of our incredible @obamafoundation Africa Leaders who are working to create change throughout the continent. These young leaders are inspiring – and I can’t wait to see all the good they continue to do. Keep up the great work, Thoko!

From the very first time that I met @deedyer267, she impressed me with her passion and creativity. Over the years, she worked her way up from being an intern to becoming our Social Secretary, and worked hard to make the White House the People’s House — flawlessly executing events, state dinners, and going the extra mile to open the doors to people who never thought they’d walk through. She tells her remarkable story in her book, Undiplomatic: How My Attitude Created the Best Kind of Trouble. It’s smart, funny, and endlessly inspirational — and I hope you’ll check it out.

I recently popped by @kingsenglishbookshop in Salt Lake City to secretly sign some copies of the paperback edition of The Light We Carry. There were some great finds in this charming little store — even a familiar face! Take a look.
This #EarthDay, I’m thinking about young women like Brenda, who lives in Arusha, Tanzania—and like many, has been affected by the climate crisis. Every day, Brenda walks two hours to get water for her family, and sometimes she’s so exhausted from her journey that she can’t make it to school. Tanzania has faced droughts, and in recent weeks, severe flooding that has caused some schools to close. The changing climate has created a deep sense of uncertainty for her and her family.
Fortunately, Brenda is supported by @creativeaction__’s Sauti ya Dada program. The program helps young women like her complete their education and learn more about the environment, providing a support system to help them navigate the challenges they’re facing in pursuit of an education.
We support the Creative Action Institute’s work through the @GirlsOpportunityAlliance, and I hope you’ll take some time to learn about them and many more organizations supporting girls around the world at the link in my bio. 🌎
I’m so proud of the organizations in the @GirlsOpportunityAlliance that are supporting girls in Chicago, including @MEANGirlsEmpowerment—which stands for Manage Emotions Avoid Negativity. They help girls develop ways to take care of their mental health, emotional well-being, nutrition, and more. We recently supported the expansion of their Girls Health Matters initiative, which allowed them to get a mobile health van to provide girls in Chicago with helpful resources and access to educational workshops. Visit the link in my bio to learn more about their work and other organizations in our Girls Opportunity Alliance Network that are empowering girls in Chicago.
I’m back on @Pinterest! Ahead of Mother’s Day, I’ve created a board that features some fun throwback photos, quotes from #TheLightWeCarry, and some beautiful artwork from artists who’ve shared the ways their moms have made an impact on their lives. Check it out at the link in my bio!
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of @ReachHigher, I surprised DC students who are making the commitment to pursue higher education. Take a look! 🎓
I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since I launched @ReachHigher at the White House. Today, I got to celebrate #CollegeSigningDay with thousands of DC high school seniors who are heading off on their next adventure. My goal for Reach Higher has always been to remind young folks that higher education isn’t for a privileged few, but for everyone — no matter where they’re from or how much money their families make. I was so grateful to be able to celebrate with these incredible students, and I wish them all the best! 🎓

This Indie Bookstore Day, I want to give a huge shoutout to all the booksellers and bookstores who are committed to showing their communities the magic of reading. Thank you for all that you do. (I’ve also loved seeing the ways you’ve been celebrating The Light We Carry!) Give a shoutout to your local bookstore in the comments and let them know how much they mean to you! ✨

It’s World Book Day! I couldn’t be more grateful for all the libraries and librarians around the world for their work in raising a new generation of readers. I’m also thankful for all the ways readers and independent bookstores have been celebrating the paperback release of #TheLightWeCarry. Thank you for your support, and happy reading! 📖
