The caption says it all… celebrating 2 years of sobriety soon on July 1st. With a lot around me shifting for the better…. Choosing to become a non-drinker allowed me the space to show up for my self in ways I couldn’t before and in ways I didn’t know were even possible! This whole past two years has been about revealing me to me! And the journey is liberating and beautiful! Feeling beautiful, and feminine and soft and powerful and more of myself rooted in my magic every day!

Smugglers Cove did NOT disappoint! I’ve always preferred more secluded beaches to more touristy ones…. This hidden gem of a beach on Tortola, BVI offers crystal clear beach waters, local bites, alcohol free frozen lemonades and A LOT of room to stretch out and relax. I love a fabulous little beach bar restaurant…. We had the fish tacos paired with a “frozen lemonade mocktail” that reminded me of the slushies I’d buy as a kid in the summertime…. In a way it was a return to childhood… frozen treats and playing in the sand. If you like chilling like a local, this is the beach for you! It’s a little bit of a trek to get there as you have to drive through the back road, but the destination is worth it! Come on a romantic date with me! July 1st will mark 2 years of sobriety as a non-drinker! In celebration I went on a date with my good friend Ishaeb @ishaebworld to Sugar Monk in Harlem! @sugarmonknyc This was a whole experience in and of itself. Funny thing, I’d actually been there before for cocktails when I was drinking and had a completely different experience! This time was full of colors and aromas and flavors that filled me with an excitement for my fabulous sober life! Let’s just say, when I was drunk, I barely remembered it. This time fully present and in the moment! I tried the famous “Butterfly Field” and the “Ba-Lue Bolivar” alcohol free mocktails that are offered… Suggested by mixologist Caesar Stovall @caesarstovall Lavender is one of my favorite aromas and flavors and the Butterfly Field danced on my taste buds! A great spot for a romantic date night! Sober Tip: I still enjoy night life environments in sobriety… the key for me is finding spaces where I can explore that safely for me. #mocktail #soberlife
Electrolytes, Alkaline & Double the Hydration with this refreshingly personalized “Fabulous Pasión Fruit Coconut” mocktail …. Smugglers Cove was so beautiful, I went back for seconds. This time I met Hassan, who was selling fresh coconut water… he told me that he made them into cocktails and when I told him I didn’t drink alcohol, he gladly offered to curate a special mocktail for me with Coconut Water, Pasión Fruit, Lemon and Lime…. And it came chilled with ice y’all! The most beautiful part of this experience besides meeting and celebrating local folk, was being PRESENT! Sobriety allows me to be in the moment and savor every piece of the delicious details life has to offer. From the coconut water, to the salt water breeze on my face, the sun on my skin and the crystal clear ocean … I could even see the fish come up and tickle my toes…. Sober Tip: Relating to other stories of this journey of sobriety helps me feel grounded and less alone. “Quit Like A Woman” is a great read for those looking for another perspective on sobriety. When I realized sobriety wasn’t the destination, but the journey that would reveal a life beyond my wildest dreams…. I had so much career success, but still felt like I had to escape. Unhealed trauma, feelings of failure & unworthiness. And clinging hard to an identity that once helped me survive hardship, but ultimately became what was keeping me from truly healing and being happy. There was a time that I thought, I can’t possibly imagine myself never having another glass of wine for the rest of my life…. And I realized my identity was so tethered to drinking. It was like tearing a piece of me away. But in becoming a non-drinker, what I did was reveal my truth and my most sincere self in the process…. And in that found the freedom I had been so hopelessly trying to escape to. Sober Tip: try hard to create new environments you don’t have to escape from, but heal in and feel supported and held. New places, people and faith…
