The unfolding humanitarian crisis in Gaza is beyond devastating. World leaders from all parties need to stand up and demand an immediate ceasefire. Far too many innocent civilians have been killed and the world is just turning a blind eye and letting Netanyahu get away with it. This morning I discussed the war with Laura Kuenssberg on BBC1.
Voters are fed up with pantomime politics. Ex-Tory MP, Nadine Dorries, threw her toys out the pram after being snubbed by Sunak for a peerage. She cashed out on her constituents in a cost-of-living crisis to chase a career in TV. Is it any wonder people have had enough of politicians? Yesterday, on #bbclaurak I spoke for everyone when I told her to “pipe down”. #bbc #ukpolitics #laurakuenssberg #politics #tv
The fact that South Africa had to lead on this, devastates me. Of course I am grateful but the fact that our leaders have been silent, shames me. With every brutal murder, parents cry and beg for peace. With the backing of the International Court of Justice, world leaders must now get some backbone and call on Netanyahu to end this horrific bloodshed against innocent civilians in Gaza. We need an immediate ceasefire now.
History will judge how we respond to this atrocity. We have a chance to stop this horror now. We need an immediate ceasefire. #gaza #palestine #ceasefire #ceasefirenow
Over the past 8 years that I have had the pleasure of being the MP for Tooting. I’ve always been dedicated to listening to the people who have entrusted me to represent them. This week, I was at two local hustings where local voters had the opportunity to put their questions directly to me. Thanks so much to everyone who worked so hard to organise these. If I am re-elected on Thursday, I will continue being open and available to our community. #balham #earlsfield #furzedown # tooting #wandsworthcommon
This week I called a debate for #childrensmentalhealthweek in Westminster Hall in Parliament. I don’t need to be a shadow minister with a fancy job title to continue fighting for children and their families. Every year we beg and plead for the Government to do more. Every year, we are failed. Still let’s not lose hope. Some phenomenal individuals and organisations are doing incredible work to be a voice for the voiceless. It was an honour to support them. @_place2be and @youngmindsuk are just a couple of them. Let’s keep going. Let’s keep pushing for our children and young people’s mental health ❤️.
Election Day is this Thursday! We have a once in a generation opportunity to kick the Tories out of Downing Street and get Labour into power. Polls will be open from 7am to 10pm – remember, you must have photo ID to vote.
Tanks firing on hungry people desperate for food… Following our travel to Egypt and the border of Gaza last week, today at the evidence meeting of the International Development Select Committee, we asked experts who work on the ground in Gaza to present their honest experiences of the appalling humanitarian situation. We heard that it is estimated, aside from direct killing, that up to 86,000 people could die in the next six months due to disease, malnutrition and poor sanitation. There is only one latrine for 500 people. And last week, there were only 4 trucks of aid per day entering into Gaza – with current demand they need at least 500 a day. This must end now. We need an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. #gaza #ceasefirenow #ceasefire #palestine
Ensuring the safety of our community is my top priority as the local MP. That’s why, I have launched my Safe Space campaign with more than 100 local businesses having already signed up. If you are walking past a local business that has one of my Safe Space logos, then you can go in to the business and ask for help. They’ll offer you a place of safety, allow you to call the police, a taxi, or charge your phone. Read more about Safe Space on my website. (link in bio)

Last week, it was announced that children’s cancer services will be moved away from @stgeorgestrust in Tooting. I have written to the Health Secretary alongside a cross-party group of South West London MPs to express our disappointment at the decision. Read our letter here:
This week, a Tory Minister accused me of playing party politics on climate change for raising the importance of meeting our net zero obligations. Is he on another planet? With 65 million people living on vulnerable, low-lying island nations, I haven’t got time for party politics. We need climate action now. #climatechange #netzero #politics #climateaction #climatecrisis #ukpolitics #parliament #labour #development #internationaldevelopment #northsea
If you spot one of these green Safe Space logos in a local business, you can pop in if you feel worried about something on the street. They’ll offer you a place of safety, allow you to call the police, a taxi, or charge your phone. I’ve launched this scheme because the safety of our community is my top priority. Find out about my Safe Space campaign and which local businesses are taking part (link in bio).

Together, we’re making Tooting safer. Pleased to feedback that the police, working with other partners, have dealt with an address close to Tooting Broadway that was involved in drug dealing.
A very #Tooting breakfast @mudcafes. What a culinary breakfast delight that filled me up till dinner time! Here we have the granola with fruit, yoghurt, nut butter and more plus the chilli eggs and toast. Too delicious for words! Check out MUD cafe. You won’t be disappointed. 😀

I pride myself on having an open door and being accessible. That’s why I was pleased to welcome local residents at yesterday’s community drop-in event with community organisations and local representatives from @wandsworth_council. We discussed their ideas for the area. It’s a brilliant way for local people to have their say on the issues that matter most to them and one of the aspects of the job I enjoy the most. Thank you to everyone who came along!

Thank you to @mpswandsworth for their swift response in dealing with an incident on Balham High Road today where a suspicious device was found. I’m informed that after inspection, the device was not a threat and the road has reponed. @tootingnewsie @balhamnewsie
Our Safe Space stickers are popping up everywhere! Tooting is a wonderful community and somewhere I am proud to live. Many local businesses have signed up to be a Safe Space. It means you can pop in and ask for help if you feel concerned when walking to work or home.
Was great to speak at @thekingsfund Circles series focusing on women in leadership, where I shared my experience as a woman working in healthcare and in politics. Working in the NHS and as a humanitarian doctor around the world has shaped my work as a politician. It’s crucial we get more women in leadership roles in the healthcare profession and more widely in our society.
