6 years ago today, I almost lost my life. Instead, I only lost my right leg and gained precious lessons in Gratitude and the Power of Perspective! More than a fair trade if you ask me. #legshmeg I ❤️ you all.
Back to livin that slate life! 🎬 Except this time it feels a little different- a lot more supported and a lot less exploited. Thank you, thank you to @officialfrandrescher, @duncanci and everyone at @sagaftra for your dedication and commitment to protecting your members, valuing our time, our bodies, the unique work each individual brings and our futures. On a personal note, 20 years of subjecting myself to the highly dependent talent-for-hire, sing-for-your-supper, shapeshifter way of life as a highly sensitive, hyper-humble, small-is-safe kinda gal…it’s easy to believe you’re worthy of crumbs from the fat cats holding the proverbial loaf of power and profit. I’ve received humility and kindness at times, no doubt, and I’ve certainly been rendered speechless by fleeting moments of generosity that interrupt the status quo…and I am grateful beyond measure for every opportunity I’ve been given…but conditioning is sneaky and can run the show UNTIL someone else comes along and shows you what worthiness, value and equality can actually look like. So on that note…! Hi ho hi ho it’s back to work we go! And heck yes we’re whistling about it… 🥳 #unionstrong Side bar…anyone else fully guessing their height on these things? 💯 going on feel that day? 😂 All these years and I still have no clue. I swear I’m not trying to be vague, ya’ll, it’s just inconsistent and confusing every time I try to get to the bottom of it. 😕🤷🏻♀️

Can’t say I’ve ever given @nascar a minute of my brain space, yet here we are and What. A. Ride! 🏎💨 Thanks for having us, @tristanlora @nascarchicago 🏁 That was very loud 🙉 and very fast with too many crashes and close calls, but also very fun. Mama’s gonna go settle her nerves now. ✌🏽
Here’s lookin at you, kid. ❤️ To all the hats you wear day-to-day: sister, mother, daughter, brother, uncle, cousin, niece, nephew, friend, husband, wasband, wife, co-parent, co-worker, ex-fiancé, widow, Memaw, Pops, father, son, step-anything, adopted anything, boyfriend, girlfriend, auntie, or neighbor…may you all have well-intended loved ones that encourage you to be bold in your choices, even if you’re not so sure you can pull it all off (ahem…thanks, Mom). This Season always raises my glass to the inquiry of reciprocity and the imbalance of it in my inner & outer world. So for the sake of harmony, synergy, equality, & equanimity allow the flow to continue as steadily as your awareness permits. Take the compliment, receive the gift, give your presence & savor the moments we sometimes only cherish in retrospect…& do it with an open heart, even if it’s shaky. Love is love is love. ✨❤️✨ Happy Merry everything, to you and yours. 🎄🎁❄️🕯🤶🏼🎠🕎☃️🍐🤍
Some BTS from the 💯’th Episode of @thegooddoctorabc that aired TONIGHT! “Hot & Bothered” 🥵 Directed by big boss @shorez 🫡written by @flyingrenaud & @dhoselton9. 💪🏽 We had so much fun learning the ropes of wheelchair basketball from some of the very best! What a sport! It’s a lot like basketball except a helluva lot harder. 🦽💨 Big shout out to my scene partner/stealer, @thechristinachang_ and to @van_danny_choi for the spinny slow mo captures. If you missed tonight, you can find it on @hulu tomorrow! 🏀
My girl, Georgia Bramhall, ya’ll! Not a successful trip home without G talking me into cutting bangs. Again. 🫣
It’s hard to express how proud, inspired and humbled I am by my brother’s visionary, heart-centered & tireless devotion to an organization that truly changes the lives of so many within an often overlooked & vulnerable population. The impact of @soldiersongsandvoices annual Reveille Retreat has a ripple effect on these veterans and their families, as well as anyone who bears witness to the transformative work that occurs here. I’m honored to stand beside him in support, along with the other facilitators @phoebehuntmusic @wearebuffalohunt @lydmariemusic @susangibsonmusic @steveearle @georgeensle @hancockbutch & Tony Rosario. If you are a Vet interested in songwriting or in need of community, reach out. If you feel compelled to donate to a worthy cause, please consider this organization. ❤️
I haven’t had the words for days. The only thing I keep repeating is “Not Hendo”. It. Just. Feels. Wrong. But I got to tune into the Livestream of his funeral service in Nashville today and if they can get up there, articulate so beautifully and get through songs, I can do this, by God. Evidently I met Mike when I was about a year old. You know when someone feels larger than life, you just figure they’re untouchable to mortality like the rest of us. Mike was the guitar player in one of my Dad’s first bands, The Overtones, then later they were in The Dead Reckoners together too. When I was little, I loved watching their band for many reasons but a highlight that all of us kids waited for was when Mike would play his guitar behind his head and then throw his left leg over the neck and crank out a gritty solo hopping around on one foot. And he still hit every note. I loved watching he and my Dad crack each other up on & off stage and always wished I could be in on the joke. He had a wink that was as twinkly and reassuring as Santa Claus, and then couple that with his warm smile always outfitted with a toothpick & a little nod…you knew you were doing good if one of those came your way. In those early days, Mike and his family lived in a house with an old chicken coop in the backyard. Mike soundproofed it, coined it the Chicken Shack, and that’s where my Dad spent lots of hours writing songs, playing snooker, watching Cubbies games, and the usual antics of late night hangs. When I was 14, my Mom bought that house and Dustin called dibs on the Chicken Shack, naturally. The legacy lived on with many, many more hours of music and foolery…and no doubt some Cubbies games too. I remember my Dad telling me once that it’s not always fun to watch a ballgame with Hendo because he wears a full Cubs uniform, head to toe, sits about a foot & a half from the little tv and there’s no talking allowed…unless you’re yelling at the screen…which, let’s be real, happened a lot. This Sunday I was able to take a gorgeous drive to Side Eye Ranch in Sequin to gather with talented women, in the country home of @jackstevensbasil — this was part of @wift_austin intimate series of “Listening In”. What a privilege it was to hear from @thekatwillis , @savannahwelch , @achando and @jen675309 as they shared stories of auditions, projects, ways to stay motivated (in front of the camera) and then breaking down scenes from a director and line producer POV (behind the camera). Y’all it was magical!! 💫 As only one event with a bunch of supportive women can be. I’m beyond grateful to this organization for bringing us all together and giving us time for connection and collaboration. 🙏🎥💜

This Thursday I am excited to be hanging w my friend @savannahwelch in the @continental.gallery! Y’all know how rare it is these days to see her perform so don’t snooze on this! Turns out there’s quite a few tunes she pinned that others have recorded. This song that Kelly and Bruce cut is just one example of her songwriting prowess. Pleas join us this Thursday!! Doors at 8pm. $10 cover.
