Shoutout to the unsung heroes. The ones who are bred, but don’t make the track. Few hear about them – where they go and end up.. some have forever homes, some move from home to home, and some see the end of their days. I’m not against horses running – but I am against over breeding/irresponsible breeding, starting horses too young, cruel tactics (tongue tying etc), bullying/mistreatment of horses, would love for every racehorse to have traceability and guaranteed care for life after racing for ALL horses bred for the purpose of racing (successful or not). Whilst I am learning and invested in learning – and I am aware some do it GREAT and treat their horses like royalty. But.. not all do and I wanted to share where I feel the industry can continue to grow. I hope we continue to see change and better welfare for ALL horses and pray for the day there are accountable, lifelong, welfare action plans for these beautiful creatures, that as a whole, earn an extra buck $ for so many (pun intended) DINO – 7yo – had 5 x homes POST racing before coming to me as a 5yo. Has kissing spine & arthritis in his spine causing neural damage and has what is called ‘wobblers’ in the horse world. GHOST – 10yo – 3 homes post racing (that I know) has a neurological disorder called shivers, which means his back legs can spasm when he walks. He also had MAJOR mental trauma/temperament issues when I first got him in 2020, he attacked me once (took a chunk out of my shoulder) and I spent over 12 months building his trust. He is now my best mate. RICK – 11yo – 3rd home post racing. Won $83k. Is rideable, but would struggle to compete. Has stiff joints and tongue has scars where it was tied. A bit flighty as raced for such a long time, but definitely the best of our 3 OTT babies – but still has his flighty racing tendencies.
