One of the hardest parts of raising children with autism is not hearing the simple things most parents hear their children say everyday. I prayed for 4 years before Grayson said mama independently. That’s truly why I have hope Magnolia will not only say mama but her vocabulary will flourish beyond. Currently she can sing 20 songs and says tons of words, just never on command. I need to make a “mama” song, and then possibly I’ll hear Magnolia say mama on command for the first time. If you have a child that’s nonverbal, but sings or makes sounds, I fully believe they will take off talking, it just takes them a little more time than most. My team wanted me to speak about this over a year ago and I refused thinking things will change, and it would only hurt my chances in this industry if I spoke my truth. Truth is the industry is different for little people specifically. Los Angeles county had/has per capita, the largest community of little people. While I do not represent all little people, I do feel it’s necessary to speak my own truth. Playing a fictional character that appeals to all ages should not have to feel derogatory due to stature. For the lp’s that do not agree with my conflicting opinions regarding little people in the industry, most likely you have a job that has nothing to do with the entertainment industry. This industry has been my dream since I was a little girl. Entertaining has been my dream since I was a little girl. Now those opportunities are being stripped from our livelihood. Many experiences are similar, but this one was wild because it went on forever. There was never a point where the “nana” acknowledged what her grandson was saying, just her way of brushing it under the rug.
