Caption : From #purityculture to #PlayboyBunny! 🐰 Swipe to see the before! I’m Alice and it felt time for a reintroduction… Many of you know me as a TV/film actress. I grew up as a homeschooled, purity ring-wearing, #evangelicalChristian. People always ask me what it’s like being an atheist in Hollywood—and why I became a Playboy Bunny. So, I put together this intro. If you swipe, you’ll see me as a modestly dressed Christian missionary. My life’s purpose was to glorify God, especially through the teachings of #purityculture. This included covering myself so that I wouldn’t be a #stumblingblock—a pitfall of sin causing men to lust. Everything changed when I was betrothed at 17 to a man I didn’t love. My faith not only cracked. It shattered. This shattering ultimately led to my liberation. If you’re curious, I wrote a book about my journey called “Wayward: A Memoir of Spiritual Warfare & Sexual Purity.” TLDR: With years of therapy, an accidental career in Hollywood, and the love and grace of secular friends, I eventually healed from what I now know to be #religioustrauma. In 2019, I founded @DaretoDoubt, a resource site for people detaching from belief systems they come to find harmful. Publishing my book further established my voice in #deconstruction and #atheist spaces. These days, I prefer describing myself as a #freethinker, for dogma is not limited to religion. My life’s purpose now is helping others free themselves from the shackles of fear and shame within any ideology. Today, I’m a lot of things: a writer, a public speaker, a podcaster, and yes—a Playboy Bunny! Part of my healing from purity culture has been indulging my love of pinup and dress-up—or rather, dress-down… 🫦 I learned rebellion is sacred medicine. “Playboy’s greatest critics through its history have been members of the Moral Right and what Hugh Hefner would have described as ‘radical feminists,’” says journalist Jamilah Lemiuex. These are also my greatest critics. Link in bio for all the things that’ll show you why, from my writing to photography!💄🖋️ I’m so happy you’re here! 💋, AliceLikes : 3

Caption : Swipe! 👉🏼 I highlight the toxic parallels of #religion and #socialjusticeculture so we can recognize and help prevent abuse within each. Both have positive goals. My advocacy lies in helping people recover from the damage of good intentions. I’ve found healing seeing different ways #fundamentalism presents, whether faith-based or #secular. As more people are shunned and shamed by secular purity culture, there’s a growing need for their support, just as there is for those shunned by religious purity culture. I aim not to complain without offering solutions, not to criticize without suggesting alternatives, and not to be anti- without stating what I am pro-. I am anti-shaming, anti-shunning, and anti-public humiliation. I am pro-curiosity, pro-vulnerability, and pro-private conversations. I am also pro-diversity—diversity of approaches to reaching the same goals. If public call-outs and shunning align with your integrity, go for it. What aligns with my integrity is pointing out how this often backfires and worsens the very problems being called out. It is not the GOALS of #socialjustice culture I object to—it is their METHODS I am in deep disagreement with. I share the goals of safety, inclusion, and love. I reject the methods of public humiliation, disfellowship, and Behavior Information Thought & Emotional (BITE) Control. How can we expect people to change when we cut them off from what we hope they’ll change toward? When we bar people’s ability to be in community with others who hold different perspectives, we deprive them of the wisdom and growth that comes with time. My Christian fundamentalist mind changed because my secular friends accepted me. It took years. Instead of giving up on people who commit #wrongthink, invite them further in. This may not be helpful in every instance. But too often I see calls for “keeping spaces safe” by shunning former members and maligning their character rather than showing, not preaching, what inclusion and diversity look like. Or were these always skin-deep? Curiosity > condemnation. Understanding > vilification. Compassion > bigotry. Disagreement > disfellowship. Image credit to @NakedPastor and @CultExpertLikes : 3

Caption : Receiving the Freethought Heroine Award from @ffrf_official truly was the highlight of my 2022. Many have asked for a written version of my acceptance speech, “What Freethought Means to Me As a Former Fundamentalist.” (Yes, this is the one where I critique #cancelculture, sharing why I don’t think I would have ever left evangelical Christianity had I been a young adult today.) I’m pleased to say that it’s now on my Substack—and it’s free to read! 👉🏼 Link in bio to my blog #Unaccountable “I observe fear and shame to be the most powerful inhibitors of freethought. Together, fear and shame arrest us from empathy, from curiosity, and from the pursuits of liberty and love that give our lives meaning. When we are afraid to think, for our thoughts might lead to the words and actions we are told are condemnable, we trap ourselves and each other in cycles of ever-increasing dogma and obedience. No one may question whether the dogma is sound or the obedience blind… Freedom of thought ultimately means freedom from fear and freedom from shame.” If my piece resonates, please share. Thank you. 🥰 #freethought #freedomfromreligion #FFRF #freefromshame #cancelcancelculture #goodwithoutgod #freethinkerLikes : 3

Caption : If you’ve been requesting #audio versions of my #blogposts, you’re in luck! Introducing, “Unaccountable with Alice Greczyn,” for people who like to think too hard. 🧠 It’s FREE and connected to my #Substack, so if you’re already a subscriber, there’s nothing more you need to do! If you’re not a subscriber yet but have enjoyed hearing me on #podcasts, I’m delighted to be launching this one of my own. 🥰 It’ll just be me reading essays aloud for now, but who knows… So many of you have asked me to start a podcast that maybe I’ll share other thoughts, and possibly even interviews. I’ll be recording new essays and re-recording old ones over the next several weeks. 🎧 Whether you’re a busy parent, a professional road-tripper, or just someone who likes listening to podcasts, I’m so pleased to offer you the option of taking in my perspectives via this new format. 👉🏼 Link in bio to 🖋️ Unaccountable, where the first podcasted essay is up: “My Public Silence on Palestine and Israel.” (Nothing like launching off the deep end.) Note: I will not be engaging here on social media about this blog post (or 🎧 podcast episode, if you prefer). I would love to engage in the comments section of Substack, where people are more likely to behave respectfully when they can read my thoughts and others’ comments in full. This is to keep Instagram a place I want to keep showing up. Because I’m thiiiiiisclose sometimes to just deleting! 😂 Thanks for respecting my boundaries and for letting me in your eardrums! 🎧😘Likes : 3

Caption : Otter Pops and Pixy Stix. Rock candy so pretty you save it for weeks until the melts it into your nightstand. Soaps of rosette you aren’t supposed to use, and you understand why. They’re too pretty pink to grime with playground hands. Life will be a pizza party one day, you think, hypnotized by the rhythmic whir of the ceiling fan. And you won’t need to mark your leftovers with an ‘A’ because all the stuffed crust will be all yours, just for you, and your bedroom will be painted lime green and you won’t have to keep Savage Garden a secular secret. Although…the lyrics could be about God. You could argue that if you need to. 💚💚💚 #MorningThoughts of #90s #nostalgia, when ceiling fan gazing was what we did instead of iPad scrolling, and #OtterPops were second only to Squeezits as a hot weather treat.Likes : 3

Caption : What social media marketing coaches don’t tell you… 📰 If you feel like you’re getting contradicting and ineffective advice, you are. I see so many coaches exhorting us to show up #authentically in order to grow our followings—and, if we’re promoting something that makes us money, to grow our bank accounts. Yet we’re also being told to niche ourselves. If you’ve realized that showing up authentically loses you more followers than you gain, I’m here to affirm that! 😂 You’re not crazy and you’re probably like me: not good at “authentically” showing up as only one piece of yourself. “Be authentic,” and, “Niche yourself,” are, to many of us, utterly paradoxical. Compartmentalizing yourself to please others—and an algorithm—will help you grow. You will gain followers and your business will flourish faster. You will be more liked, more engaged with, and more purchased from when you focus on a singular aspect of who you are that is relevant to what you’re selling, whether it’s information through a podcast or products through affiliate links. But I personally do not call this being authentic. I call this marketing. This gets especially tricky when your business is, in and of itself, multi-faceted. Many of my friends are intellectuals. Their podcasts, Patreons, and YouTube channels are broad-ranging from health and spirituality (hello, @CurioCityPod) to news (hello, @BrigidaDag) to politics (hello, @PuntersPolitics). These latter two categories are not even being pushed by algorithms anymore. So what do big-picture thinkers and multi-faceted creatives like us do? Not gonna lie, what I’ve found is pretty discouraging. If you’ve been trying to implement #socialmedia #marketing advice to all but zero growth, you’re not alone. 👉🏼 Link in bio to read the rest of my latest blog post on #Unaccountable!Likes : 3

Caption : Would 10-year-old you be happy with who you are? ❤️ Little Me (swipe!) would never have imagined all the dress-up she’d get to play, all the fear she would be free of, and all the wonder she’d get to experience. She’d be in awe—both alarmed and dazzled—by the woman she’d become. She’d be worried and overwhelmed by what it would it take to get there, but mostly, I think she’d be excited. My life has turned out far, far greater than I ever let myself dream. I exceeded my wildest expectations. With others’ help and willingness, I fulfilled my deepest desires. I earned my meaning, purpose, and joy. I am so grateful, and honored, to be able to support causes that help others realize these in their own lives, and I recognize that safety, security, and freedom are foundational to allowing these to flourish. So this is just a post of gratitude and a prompt to remember who you were at 10 years old. What dreams have you fulfilled? How far have you come? What more do you have yet to realize and bring to fruition? What makes you happiest and what makes you feel filled with purpose? Do you accept and love yourself? Pat yourself on the back. You’ve probably reached a lot you never imagined, either, for better and worse. ❤️ 👉🏼 Link in bio to Unaccountable, where you can read 10-year-old me in my latest blog post that is a deleted chapter from my memoir. 🥰 #wayward🍎🐍 #deletedscene #memoirwriting #writersofinstagram #religioustrauma #exvangelical #exChristian #fundamentalism #exfundie #purityculture #purityculturedropout #atheist #freedomfromreligionLikes : 3

Caption : This is the inside cover of my diary at 10 years old. ✍🏼 Link in bio to my latest blog post on Unaccountable! It’s rather strange being an adult entertainer known for stories about her childhood. If you’ve felt jolted by my social media posts ping-ponging from innocence to sexiness, with religious trauma rants and funny cat memes in between, you’re not alone. I’m well aware of the breadth that my content spans. It is but a microcosm glimpse of my inner world, the true arrays of which are reserved only for those who know and love me best. I say this to acknowledge the incongruency you may perceive. If it bothers you, I understand, yet I am a whole person. Not a niche. Every woman was once a girl. This newsletter is another deleted scene — an entire deleted chapter, rather — from my book, “Wayward: A Memoir of Spiritual Warfare & Sexual Purity.” The last scene I shared was an Easter story. I swear I didn’t mean for its follow-up to be a Passover story but — by sheer coincidence — Passover is tomorrow and here we are. The bulk of my published memoir takes place in my teen and young adult years. It was the precious pages of my pre-teen youth that were mostly cut. Come back with me to April of 1996, to my world of homemade hoopskirts, bunk bed kisses, and a prophesy that haunted me all the way into adulthood! 👉🏼 Link in bio to Unaccountable! #wayward #deletedscenes #childhooddiaries #memoir #vineyardmusic #spiritualwarfare #purityculture #firstkiss #religioustrauma #TorontoBlessing #exChristian #Passover #messianicjewish #exvangelical #atheist #atheistsofinstagram #AliceGreczynLikes : 3
