Those memories delight my soul. A lot has changed since then - our wedding guest list would certainly include a lot of new faces whom we've been lucky enough to grow close to in recent years. Individually we've grown and evolved so much. It's important we continue to explore who we are both as individuals and as a couple. I'm truly proud of what we've created together. Our wonderful daughter Ember, our businesses, and our home. I'm grateful for our incredible support system who joined us 11 years ago and who continue to nurture us and surround us with love and encouragement. Today we celebrate the journey. It has been an incredible 5 years with Spectrum News. It is very rare that you get to do work that is fulfilling and in service of humanity. I've had the absolute pleasure of getting to know my city intimately and the wonderful people who make it so special. I've grown as a journalist and as a human. Talking to @corey_obrien inspired me to get sober Meeting with @prosperity.market showed me how essential it is to be intentional with where we spend our dollars Singing with @urbanvoicesproject showed me the incredible healing power of music This is a tiny fraction of the hundreds of people I've interviewed and who've touched my heart. This was a dream job in every sense. And it was always more than just a job for me. I was sharing good news long before anyone wanted to pay me to do it. I pursued this idea relentlessly until the timing was right and it found a platform and offered me a paycheck. Thank you for believing in me, Scott Warren. I moved to LA seeking fame and fortune only to find deep fulfillment in my journalistic roots. I discovered my superpower is curiosity and connection. I love meeting people. Amy Paffrath Instagram - Facing disappointment. It's a natural part of life. Normalize rejection so we don't feel so crushed by it. I didn't know you could even submit your own work to be considered for an Emmy nomination until last year. When I discovered that, I thought, I'm proud of my What's Good segments, why not put myself out there for consideration? Well, this morning the nominations were announced and the nominating committee chose 5 other stellar segments to officially nominate and my name was not on that list. Of course I'm disappointed. I have had this dress hanging on my rack since January in hopes of manifesting myself wearing it to the ceremony this summer. I believed it could happen for me. Sometimes we don't get what we want. That's okay. It was never about an award or a dress or ME, even. It was always about the people of Los Angeles who are making it better. I don't need anyone to honor me to know that what I was doing and the stories I told mattered. I know that in my heart of hearts. I felt it in the interviews, I felt it in the edits, I continue to feel it when I share space with the incredible people I'm now forever connected with because of those segments. My life has been infinitely enhanced by the network of fascinating humans I now know thanks to those segments. Don't let your greatness be defined by any award or accolade or shiny trophy. Let it be discovered in a feeling that comes from the depths of your soul when you're walking in alignment with your highest good. Today I feel proud. Proud of putting myself out there and proud for being brave enough to put THIS out there. A decade ago I was on here trying to look cool and get attention. Now I'm on here sharing my truth with intention and hoping to help some of y'all feel less alone. We share the same struggles and vulnerabilities. If this is what failure looks like, it ain't that bad, my friends. Don't be afraid to fail and then pick yourself up and dream again. As Ember says, we're all just stardust and water. Amy Paffrath Instagram - Er the whon that I want @drewseeley 💕 Dates these days look like grocery shopping and getting lunch at @erewhon and it's more than okay with me. We're approaching our 11th anniversary at the end of the month and the last year has really tested the whole 'in sickness and health' part of our vows. Finally on the road to recovery after a long bout of SIBO which caused me to suffer malabsorption and malnourishment leading to unexpected weight loss. (I'm aware I look too thin, please stop telling me. It's unhelpful and frankly, rude). It has stressed my body and our relationship but we're stronger now and working on healing together. This is what long term relationships are about. It's not always pretty. It's not always easy. But if you are both committed to self improvement you will grow - hopefully together. I'm grateful that we've gotten to a place where I can ask for help and know that I will receive it. I don't like to depend on anyone but this man has my back thought thick and thin. Working on getting back to thick. Full fat smoothies and pizza should help. We're a work in progress and after 11 years of marriage, discovering that the bad times push you towards better ones if you're willing to see the lessons in the struggles. Love you, Drew. Amy Paffrath Instagram - When Janice said it was gonna be a party, she wasn't kidding. The most important photo shoot I'll do all year is the one of my titties. Got a mammogram today and it was honestly, a joyful experience. Shout out to all of the angels working in healthcare who are making the whole process less scary and helped me to view this intimidating appointment as more of a tool for empowerment. I feel much less anxious the more I learn about epigenetics from @michaelgregermd Our choices have power and our bodies are incredibly resilient and have the WILL to be in homeostasis. Funny enough, Chapter 11 of How Not to Die started playing on my drive to Cedars and it's all about: Breast Cancer. Research shows there's a lot we can do to reduce our risk. For this reason I'm seriously exploring a vegan diet. Nearly 3 years without a sip of alcohol sure ain't hurting my chances, either. That's something to celebrate. Connecting with kind souls like Janice while stone cold sober is way more fun than any drunken night I've ever had. Get checked. And meet up with a bestie afterwards. Feeling elevated after a hike and gab with @youcanfindjules who coincidentally met Janice two days ago. Friends inspire each other to do better and be better. Find yourself a Janice and a Jules. Amy Paffrath Instagram - Keep turning towards the light. It's hard to focus on anything other than the immense amount of suffering in Palestine right now. My heart breaks for the children who are enduring endless trauma. My heart breaks for the hostages whose whereabouts are still unknown. I am as angry, sad and outraged as all of you. But I'm also trying to raise a human who doesn't have to recover from her childhood. That DOES require me to keep seeking the light. Otherwise the darkness will take me under and I'll be of no use to anyone much less my child. I know this is important. I am aware of the tragedy and horrors occuring in real time. It's excruciating. I was in college when Music was released and I connected with that album so much because I was deep in grief and feeling stifled by the expectations of me as a woman. Madonna gave me the permission to not take shit and to stay true to me however complicated and messy that might be. A lot has changed since my college years but I've held onto my sense of adventure, a deep trust in my intuition and this western A&F belt that I likely spent a whole paycheck on in 2004. It was cathartic and healing to wear it again, 20 years later to Madonnas Celebration tour and dance to music that has shaped my life. What I'm most proud of is being able to enjoy it without alcohol. I'm having way more fun than I was in my 20's. I am wide awake and fully present. Teaching your kid ANYTHING requires oodles of patience. Teaching your kid to ski requires enough patience to fill Big Bear lake. Lots of tears and plenty of frustration early on but when we listened to our child and took off the ski clip a friendly, well- meaning staff member hooked on her skis, she fared much better and had a really enjoyable day. We gave Ember some tips, and told her the basics but mainly she taught herself to ski. Parents, give them the tools, make adjustments, then get out of their way. We have a budding skier! @drewseeley Ps...kids 4 and under get free rentals at Big Bear Mountain . Perfect low pressure opportunity to try the sport before you commit. Amy Paffrath Instagram - Just finished reading #anxiousgeneration by @jonathanhaidt and this is my attempt to be the change I wish to see in the world. We're all affected by what we see on this platform whether we realize it or not. The filtered faces stick with us on a subconscious level. I first tried Botox before my wedding and did it twice after that over a 10 year period. The main reason, I'm frugal and maintaining this high standard of beauty gets expensive. I decided to try it again in March and frankly, it didn't leave me feeling too good about myself. So, I'm sticking to monthly facials and maybe a super light touch in my 11's from now on. To each their own. Just want all the young minds scrolling an endless feed of tight skin to understand its totally okay to age. Take some of the pressure off yourself to be perfect and instead focus on feeling good inside no matter what the outside looks like. When I first started dating my now husband @drewseeley because of the awareness of his work back then while I was still building my career, It was hard to forge my own identity at times. A true low blow was once getting invited to a charity event in San Diego when I was a host on E! - the org put me up in a nice hotel and made me feel so welcome - only to introduce on the red carpet as 'Drew Seeley's girlfriend.' I mean ... Wow. That's why I loved Ken's arc in @barbiethemovie 💝 A lot of us are realizing we were always enough just because we are. Not because of what we do or who we know. As is. I love how Greta Gerwig and Margo Robbie made feminism palatable and the patriarchy understandable. But the biggest takeaway for me was the truth: we all benefit when gender roles are less rigid and when women are not only let into spaces and valued for taking up space, but also made space for and welcomed into the party. It's not enough to be tolerated. It's about being thought of, appreciated, and welcome. That's all Ken really wants, too. It could be due to what's known as a negativity bias. We have a tendency to go to the worst case scenario. (And so does the internet - stay off WebMD!) It's a biological adaptation that we don't necessarily need in such high gear. We have to train our minds to look for the positive. Very hard when you're physically ill or your body is in pain. I hope this comes as a message of hope that though our bodies are fragile and certainly need our tending loving care, they are also resilient when given time and tenderness to simply rest and digest. I have had this dress hanging on my rack since January in hopes of manifesting myself wearing it to the ceremony this summer. I believed it could happen for me. Sometimes we don't get what we want. That's okay. It was never about an award or a dress or ME, even. It was always about the people of Los Angeles who are making it better. I don't need anyone to honor me to know that what I was doing and the stories I told mattered. I know that in my heart of hearts. I felt it in the interviews, I felt it in the edits, I continue to feel it when I share space with the incredible people I'm now forever connected with because of those segments. My life has been infinitely enhanced by the network of fascinating humans I now know thanks to those segments. Don't let your greatness be defined by any award or accolade or shiny trophy. Let it be discovered in a feeling that comes from the depths of your soul when you're walking in alignment with your highest good. Today I feel proud. Proud of putting myself out there and proud for being brave enough to put THIS out there. A decade ago I was on here trying to look cool and get attention. We're approaching our 11th anniversary at the end of the month and the last year has really tested the whole 'in sickness and health' part of our vows. Finally on the road to recovery after a long bout of SIBO which caused me to suffer malabsorption and malnourishment leading to unexpected weight loss. (I'm aware I look too thin, please stop telling me. It's unhelpful and frankly, rude). It has stressed my body and our relationship but we're stronger now and working on healing together. This is what long term relationships are about. It's not always pretty. It's not always easy. But if you are both committed to self improvement you will grow - hopefully together. I'm grateful that we've gotten to a place where I can ask for help and know that I will receive it. I don't like to depend on anyone but this man has my back thought thick and thin. Working on getting back to thick. Full fat smoothies and pizza should help. We're a work in progress and after 11 years of marriage, discovering that the bad times push you towards better ones if you're willing to see the lessons in the struggles. Love you, Drew. Finally on the road to recovery after a long bout of SIBO which caused me to suffer malabsorption and malnourishment leading to unexpected weight loss. (I’m aware I look too thin, please stop telling me. It’s unhelpful and frankly, rude). It has stressed my body and our relationship but we’re stronger now and working on healing together. This is what long term relationships are about. It’s not always pretty. It’s not always easy. But if you are both committed to self improvement you will grow – hopefully together. I’m grateful that we’ve gotten to a place where I can ask for help and know that I will receive it. I don’t like to depend on anyone but this man has my back thought thick and thin. When I first started dating my now husband @drewseeley because of the awareness of his work back then while I was still building my career, It was hard to forge my own identity at times. A true low blow was once getting invited to a charity event in San Diego when I was a host on E! - the org put me up in a nice hotel and made me feel so welcome - only to introduce on the red carpet as 'Drew Seeley's girlfriend.' I mean ... Wow. That's why I loved Ken's arc in @barbiethemovie 💝 A lot of us are realizing we were always enough just because we are. Not because of what we do or who we know. As is. I love how Greta Gerwig and Margo Robbie made feminism palatable and the patriarchy understandable. But the biggest takeaway for me was the truth: we all benefit when gender roles are less rigid and when women are not only let into spaces and valued for taking up space, but also made space for and welcomed into the party. It's not enough to be tolerated. It's about being thought of, appreciated, and welcome. That's all Ken really wants, too. It could be due to what's known as a negativity bias. We have a tendency to go to the worst case scenario. (And so does the internet - stay off WebMD!) It's a biological adaptation that we don't necessarily need in such high gear. We have to train our minds to look for the positive. Very hard when you're physically ill or your body is in pain. I hope this comes as a message of hope that though our bodies are fragile and certainly need our tending loving care, they are also resilient when given time and tenderness to simply rest and digest. Grateful for @drewseeley who took care of me this week and gave me plenty of grace and space to focus on my wellness. May we each continue to find what healing means for us. For me it's balancing my microbiome, a hot button topic right now 🧠 We're different, we're the same. We're all doing great. Wishing you all balance, harmony and homeostasis.
