Annabel Crabb Instagram - My 17yo daughter forwarded this to me yesterday and now I am following its author @cheekmedia.co … a magical little connection through my kid that brought me a new source of news and insight made by motivated smart women …. Praise be!! Gave me a belly laugh too. Also WHO SAYS THE YOOF DONT NOTICE NEWS, they bloody well do ❤️ anyway have a terrific Thursday everyone.
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Look at this incredible #logies photo of my lovely colleague @costasworld - captured before yesterday’s event by @mr_stephenblake. May I always be lucky enough to work with such unique and wonderful people. ❤️
Annabel Crabb Instagram - I have no idea what your story is, Random Man Carrying A Huge Carrot. But you have really put a spring in my step. Thank you!
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Lazy morning reading in bed, and at about 11.30 my 11yo brought me a fish finger sandwich with capers. THIS IS WHY I HAD CHILDREN.
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Breaking: There is now a very satisfying nuclear escalation going on among my children re breakfast in bed. My 17yo, a naturally competitive tyke, learned of yesterday’s fish finger sandwich delivery by her puny sibling and has returned serve blisteringly with this Dutch Baby featuring smoked salmon, whipped cream cheese w capers, cornichon, thyme, lemon zest, green olives and served with a rocket salad and an apple and elderflower spritz on the side. All just ridiculously delicious… all eyes on the 14yo now. And on the 11yo who is away on a sleepover and will shortly return to find her palace of breakfast dominance memorably ransacked OMG. Swipe for further plating photography also the moment last night when - going to bed - I formally acknowledged that the book pile is getting a bit too tottery.

Annabel Crabb Instagram - At Canterbury Hospital’s hand clinic for further assistance with an injury sustained to my paw on Boxing Day while blithely using it to tamp down a loaded kitchen bin, unaware that it contained a broken glass. Yes, I know: Dumb. A common injury apparently. Anyway, big shout out and thank you to the ED team at Canterbury that night for skillful and good humoured assistance, and to the surgeon / anesthetist / theatre crew who worked VERY late sewing me up, and last but not least kind Lowanna on Acacia Ward who found me a charger when my phone expired. Oh also plus Jess who has taught me things I did not know about hand musculature and nerve systems. Satisfied customer ❤️
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Respectful repost of this red flowering gum image from @flowersvasette I have no context as to whether this is a finished bouquet or the beginnings of something spectacular but as a general principle: if there is a person alive who is unmoved by a giant pile of red flowering gum supported by human legs then I absolutely do not want to meet that person
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Massive thanks to the team keeping me on the road for @melbcomedyfestival this week at the @capitoltheatresydney … Instagram is not a very realistic medium and neither is a comedy show (although there are some sad bits in mine) - I am a very chatty person but for about six months now have been suffering from something called muscle tension dysphonia which strains my voice and is quite hurty. It is related to me using my face too much and not breathing properly and having a few sad things happen …. Anyway huge thanks to Polly from @performancemed who - along with Annie and Letitia and others have time back together and back on the road with the truly miraculous and strange sounding art of laryngeal massage. From them and the rest of my team of otolaryngological supporters I have learned so much about the voice. And Polly yesterday trussed me up like a Christmas goose and I just thought I would advise because it’s not always clear in a show that there are major supports in place, some in surgical strength tape form, some in family form, some in producer form (thank you @laurenannhillman, you are the actual greatest) and also the whole @chat10looks3 team and @glamgwenblake who designed a tea towel based on the most embarrassing details of my life. Come to the merch stand and grab a tea towel from my kids who will probably tell you the stuff that was too actionable to make it to the towel.
Show starts at 8.30pm, here til Sunday night xx

Annabel Crabb Instagram - A footnote to my column at @abcnews_au today on Peter Dutton’s Budget reply speech. Link in my bio to the whole thing.
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Went for an impulse swim in this last night. #radelaide
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Happy birthday to my beautiful sister in law Anisa … we all miss you so much but this is how you will always be … observant, wise, funny, invariably something going on behind that lovely face. ❤️
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Meanwhile at my house, the third shoe dropped this morning in the great Breakfast in Bed grudge match played out among the three rubes I gestated and from whose bitter kitchen rivalry I find myself the sole and delighted beneficiary. This morning, 14yo lad suspended his otherwise consistent campaign for me to let him have either a bearded dragon or a dirt bike for long enough to make and bring me smashed avocado and cream cheese on toast with capers and lemon zest, with a sweet little fruit salad and a cup of tea. Thank you darling. And no you still can’t have a lizard or a dirt bike. ❤️
Annabel Crabb Instagram - DIVERSITY HIRE ALERT!!! My new column up at @abcnews_au … link in my bio or head straight to the site… I’m writing about Kamala Harris’ new Veep pick Tim Walz and wondering whether there’ll be an outbreak of horror about the fact that his colour and gender likely played a role in him being chosen … 😉😉😉😉😉😉😉 WDYR?
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Back home in #radelaide for @adlfringe with a new love show about food and politics, The Grilling Season. Tonight’s audience included some absolutely top-shelf SA women, pioneers both here and internationally… Her Excellency the @governorsouthaustralia Frances Adamson and Mr Rod Bunten, and @natashastottdespoja who - having left the Senate some time ago - continues to serve Australia with distinction at the UN. Both have incredible Mums too - the Hon Jennifer Cashmore (pictured) in the case of the Governor, and Shirley Stott Despoja who is legendary for much more than the fact that she begat NSD. All made their own way through ambition and talent … so nice to catch em for two seconds post show. Swipe for my own progeny who has been mercilessly lampooning me in a nightly on-stage intro which I was assured would be some fun remarks about politics but has evolved into quite a detailed critique of my parenting weaknesses which is guess is the downside of raising independent minded girl children 🤓 Last Feb show is tonight 6.30 @gluttony_fringe

Annabel Crabb Instagram - Couldn’t hold it in no more, Cap’n…
On @abcnews_au , link in bio
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Last Book Week ever. Even through my mask of tears I can see that the Principal has absolutely left nothing on the field here. Respect. Came for the kids book, stayed for the Kafka. ❤️
Amended: Welcome to this post @maggiehutchingsauthor and @felicita.sala … the AUTHOR and ILLUSTRATOR of the work who have showed up in the comments below … I’m screaming with laughter oh dear social media is drrrreeeaaadddful as we know but every now and then it does give ya a real burst of joy hey ❤️
And it started with a great teacher, like many things. Shout out to all of them xxx
Annabel Crabb Instagram - It’s Wednesday, so my column for @abcnews_au is up. I’ve written about the Lehrmann judgment. Link to this and past ABC columns is in my bio or you can just head to the ABC News page.
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Gift from my firstborn who has astutely combined my love for notebooks with her love for trolling me … be still, my heart ♥️
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Even when it’s cold and I’m sleep-deprived, walking past this guy every morning improves things by a solid 20 per cent. I impulse bought him rashly (and vomitously) many years ago with pretty much the entire proceeds of a book I wrote that had cost me much effort. Have never regretted it for one second. Very sad that @nicholasharding_artist is no longer with us. What a lovely man he was and just the most beautiful artist. Imagine being able to make water, cliffs and people with a palette knife in this way. ❤️
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Team. I know it’s cold. I know ya tired. There’ve been some false starts, yeah. I know it doesn’t feel great. I can’t believe it’s August 1 and this is where we find ourselves. And if I could pull the jumper on for ya and run out there myself, I truly would. But it’s up to you, yeah? And I know if you run out there and give it 110 per cent today … ya gonna be amazing. Okay! Cmooooooonnnnnnnn!!!!
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Yeah the other angle of the bedside book pile is… not reassuring, structurally speaking
Annabel Crabb Instagram - JUST LOOK at the burrito cake @glamgwenblake made at the request of her daughter. The corn is made from chopped up banana lollies. The silver foil is EDIBLE. The rice is rice bubbles tossed in melted white chocolate. A thing of delight. Happy birthday Honor. ❤️ ps this is Gwen’s photo, I took a bunch but none of them came out as nicely as Gwen’s for reasons that should be obvious haha. @chat10looks3
Annabel Crabb Instagram - This is Lachlan Kean, who died a year ago aged 37 of bowel cancer… one of the growing cohort of young fit people diagnosed with a disease we tend to think of as something that happens to older people. Lachlan’s symptoms - constipation, abdominal pain, blood in the stool - weren’t recognised as problematic because of his age and good health.

Did you know that as of July this year, if you’re 45 you can request a free bowel screening kit? Just call 1800627701. And you can get one via your GP even younger. Most importantly - don’t ignore the warning signs. 90 per cent of bowel cancers are curable if picked up early enough.

Tonight I was lucky enough to meet Lachlan’s beautiful family as they and his friends and many generous supporters gathered at @ivysydney for the @lachlankeanfoundation to raise money - massively needed - for research and trials directed precisely at this new young cohort of bowel cancer patients. Swipe for the giant cheque presentation!

A lot of people have contributed generously. Give this crowd @lachlankeanfoundation a follow.

But the most important thing, as Lachlan and my late sister in law Anisa and every single person sideswiped by this monster way too early would no doubt say:

Don’t ignore warning signs, don’t feel embarrassed, don’t think “I’m too young”…. Just get it checked out. Doesn’t take a minute.

Congratulations to Lachlan’s community for pulling this together. Thanks to Dr Meg Barnet of the @garvaninstitute for adding research heft to the evening. And @karlstefanovic_ for donating his considerable auctioneering skills even though he’s a man of few free evenings.
This disease is changing. Let’s not be caught napping xxx

Annabel Crabb Instagram - The last book I will read in 2023. Started it yesterday and have neglected many things / jobs / children as I snarfled it up. Congratulations @nadinevoncohen … Yael Silver grabbed me firmly in the chest cavity. Hard recommend ❤️ @chat10looks3
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Congratulations to one of the most extraordinary humans I know, Rosanna Barbero from @addiroad who has just been announced as winner of @multiculturalnsw’s 2024 Human Rights Medal. I first met her during Covid lockdowns, when @addiroad became - for some overlooked communities, whether they be migrant or refugee families, sex workers, marooned students - a life-saving point of contact making sure they got food parcels. I saw her organise laptops for kids trying to do remote-learning from crowded apartments. I saw her bend over backwards to get food out into remote communities where no-one else was going. Have never once heard her say “that’s too hard”, or “I can’t help”. I’ve seen her stay up all night to help get a squad of young girls out of Kabul when the Taliban rode in. And when they arrived, she mothered those young women and anchored them in a warm community of love and support. I’m so grateful that my kids have got to watch and learn from her. And be inspired by her truly radical, brilliant dress sense haha. Most of all, I love the way she never makes anyone feel as though they’re a charity case. It’s never “Oh you poor bugger, I’m so sorry for you, here’s some food.” It’s always “Oh, you’re HERE!! We’ve been WAITING for you! Come in!” And that is a powerful, powerful thing. No wonder people blossom around her like flowers.
❤️
Annabel Crabb Instagram - I’m in the green room for @theprojecttv about to go on air and I’m the only guest so this catering feels either incredibly generous or seriously worrying for my reputation. I’m talking about my tour of Fifty Odd Years Of Crabb (visiting @melbcomedyfestival from Wednesday, in the superb @thecapitolrmit) a show in which I tell embarrassing stories about myself to try and pierce the despair of these days.
Annabel Crabb Instagram - I went to @ngvmelbourne on Friday to see a specific painting but while I was there in the 18th century wing I stumbled across these incredible creations by Adelaide glass artist @vintagemurtagh … she’s made these ancient Athenian style vessels but when you look closely at the scenes depicted they are of Covid lockdown… Centrelink queues, tired-looking people on their phones wearing masks and queuing up for toilet paper at the checkout … so clever and articulate, also reflecting how ancient the idea of plague is. I then found the artist on here and looked at some of her other stuff - incredible, check it out @vintagemurtagh - and learned that I caught that little two-item exhibit by one day! Jessica it was a delight to stumble across your incredible work. Thanks also to Tiepolo (not on Instagram) whose Cleopatra I was on my way to visit, having recently reread @the_shb_’s GLORIOUS poem about it, which you can swipe to read. Anyway, two artists and a poet 300yrs apart magically conspired to lift my mood when I was feeling tired and anxious so THANK YOU

Annabel Crabb Instagram - So much commentary around this week about the King’s new portrait by Jonathan Yeo… this one, by the @washingtonpost’s @sebastian.smee, made me laugh out loud … “unaccountably frightening” 😂😂😂 (swipe for highlights)
Smee is the reason I subscribe to the Washington Post - and his Insta feed is a treasure trove of insight into beautiful and surprising works.
Personally, I reckon the painting’s colour scheme is an INCREDIBLY bold direction for a subject who once mused aloud upon his longing be a sanitary product. Maybe the whole thing is an epic troll by Big Tampax? Sorry, I made this high art discussion yucky didn’t I. As you were. But give the Smee a follow, ya won’t regret it.

Annabel Crabb Instagram - Thank you to my awesome, smart, talented colleagues on our new project who already are a gift to work with but who bowled up this superb #workbirthday surprise today and look how beautiful it is. I could barely stand to eat it and then discovered that I really actually could. Cake is from @flourandstone … many pistachios and teeny tiny rosebuds came to great harm. ❤️ thanks team

Annabel Crabb Instagram - Beautiful birthday celebration this weekend for my lovely friend @fionahughes3, a warm hearted, modest, funny, super competent general delight of a person. Also does not like sweet things so an intriguing birthday cake challenge. This one, concocted in collaboration with @glamgwenblake and modeled on the Swedish concept of Smorgastorte (or sandwich cake, and yes there are many umlauts and whatchamacallits missing from my reference) involves several large miche loaves from @goodwoodbakeshop from which rounds of bread were extracted like those arctic ice plug things, and layered with:
Salmon rillettes (hot smoked)
Zucchini and dill frittata
Beetroot pate
Tarama whipped w cream cheese.
Toppers: Cucumber ribbons and carved flowers, quail eggs, radish flowers, caper berries, horseradish and dill cream, pink pepper corns, salmon roe, candied baby beets, gone-to-seed herbs and nasturtium flowers from our primary school’s kitchen garden (stolen under cover of Book Week), also smoked salmon.
Thank you to our Scandi friends for being such sickoes as to normalise cakes made of fish. Also please enjoy my teenage son’s highly skeptical response on having the concept outlined.
Most importantly: Happy birthday to a good, good woman. ❤️
(And as usual thanks to @mr_stephenblake for photography, well the good photos anyway)

Annabel Crabb Instagram - This is my beautiful friend Eran Svigos - artist, raconteur, inventor of the aerosol cocktail, shoe fetishist, jewellery designer and co founder of @palasjewellery… She has been gone longer now, I realised today, than I knew her. But while she lived, she was possibly the MOST alive person I’ve ever known. And she leaves a sparkly trail of jewels and art behind. And her beautiful family (sister Anna, pictured next) and Dad John and Mum Esther, have for the last 16 years passed Eran’s generosity forward by funding a Fringe award in her name for the best solo visual arts show in Fringe. I was so proud to be able to be there today and present it, wearing some old and new Palas fingerbling. And thrilled to open the envelope and find the award went to @samkissajukian - like Eran, a multitalented wonder who makes - apart from comedy about bipolar, which makes me love him even more - giant wonderful paintings that I KNOW Eran would have loved. Everything I see of his I think my own late brother @jamescrabb12 would have loved, too. Heart full. Eran: you are missed and very single day and you would be CARVING UP this @adlfringe ❤️

Annabel Crabb Instagram - I sat down (alarmingly recently) to write the new one-woman show I’m bringing to @adlfringe in, like, TWO WEEKS…. It’s called The Grilling Season and it’s a collection of seamy tales about food and politics and the weird things that have happened over my 25 years of combining them. I realised that I have three anecdotes that SPECIFICALLY concern onions. It’s going to be … dicey….
🧅 Come along if you’re in #Radelaide as indeed all sensible people are in Feb/March. Details in my bio …
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Backstage at @atqpac for our first night of interfering with one of the world’s great orchestras.
Hearing a bit of anxiety from @australianchamberorchestra newbies and Chatters that this format may involve audience participation. QUELL YOUR FEARS. No one will be required to sing or clap along or play. Probably even @richardtognetti.aco won’t get to play because @leigh_sales - in a megalomaniacal upswing that is at this very second reaching its zenith - is not going to let anyone get a note in. You’ve still got time to make it if you’re in Brissie. Catch this musical Hindenberg before the firies arrive. 🤪
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Two years ago, @thatsmsgaytoyou made me the happiest woman alive by stepping in last minute to rescue (vocally) my way-too-ambitious rewriting of the Hamilton opening number as an extended troll of @leigh_sales. Tonight, for one night only at the @adelaidecabaret we shall be reunited on stage at the @adelaidefescent where Sales and Her Gayness will sing a number they have been practicing for months. It is FIRE. Plus we have @floandjoan and @bertlabee AND @victoria_falconer … oh my darlings, as Gay would say. You don’t even KNOW. Of course, we don’t even know either but I feel in my waters that tonight is going to be one for the ages. Not too late to get TICKETS through @adelaidecabaret (also links through @chat10looks3) and be forever a member of …. We few. We happy few. This is St Crispins Day, cabaret-wise. All I’m saying. Swipe for Gay and me in full flight on stage at @enmore_theatre, and the moment backstage where a horrified Sales clocks that I’m about to attempt a Hamilton number on stage. She didn’t know.

Annabel Crabb Instagram - Some absolute BELTERS in the chicken department at @sydneyroyal_eastershow today. A thorough pleasure to review, including some truly EXCELLENT breeder names. Shoutout to Beverley Bird and Akers Flock. And for my son who has been chased by ducks in parks a number of times, the duck breeder Chase Parkes was especially apposite. Congratulations to all category winners.

Annabel Crabb Instagram - The feeling of sheer delight when you turn up to your @briscomedyfest gig at the @bris_powerhouse and find that you’re sharing a stage with @nats_what_i_reckon … one of the funniest people on this landmass and also just a top shelf human in every way. He is on again tomorrow night at the Powerhouse then swinging through Queensland and NSW and WA (swipe for details) with his new show “Hot Dogs Probably Aren’t Real.” The Wa and Qld heavy elements make me wonder … Nat, are you running for PM? Would back you. Get along and fill ya boots anyway people.

Annabel Crabb Instagram - Just taking a second to reflect on this feat - one person winning the @thestellaprize and @milesfranklinliteraryaward in quick succession, with a book that took ten years to write. Quick and slow. Alexis Wright’s contribution to Australian literature is obviously staggering but the thing that I have always found unique in her writing is the way it trains you as a reader (esp as a non Indigenous reader) to think about time in a different way. When I read her I can feel my brain rustily squealing and protesting and trying to reassert the orthodoxies of time to which I’m accustomed, but after that din dies off you start to get what she’s teaching you which is a kind of deep listening. An incredible and generous thing to be able to do. How lucky we are to have her. And congratulations of course.
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Reading highlight of recent brief and very lovely holiday: Intermezzo, by Sally Rooney. Had it knocking round for a bit and hadn’t picked it up but my daughter urgently recommended (as did her cockatiel who ate the lower part of the front cover) and ooofff. I am forced to agree it is extremely good. An at-times unbearably sharp evocation of the way insecurity, history, family and grief can gum up the works of human relationships.
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Finished off a crazed week of racing about, writing, shows in Adelaide and Canberra and just wrapped up in Brisbane, sore of voice and body and all I need is to go to bed after eating a Vietnamese noodle salad. I ordered out. But it arrived without dressing! Can I have an order of Australia please for Anna on the reception desk at @mantra_south_bank who dove into her own handbag for soy, dug out some sugar sachets, thanks to the bar for these lime wedges… I’m back in business. Quick Mantra, give this lady a raise before I MARRY HER. Her look of panic at the prospect of eating a nude noodle was very restorative, and the salad is very very good. Night all.
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Still think it should have been called “The Odd Throuple”. I’m live blogging tonight’s episode on the Turnbull Government NOW on @abcnews_au website so head there while you’re watching. You can catch up, of course, on iview …. Anyway come join me
Annabel Crabb Instagram - This is the moment on Tuesday night at which Scottish-born classical accordionist James Crabb viciously pranked @leigh_sales by handing her a BOOBYTRAPPED squeezebox on stage at the Opera House in front of the @australianchamberorchestra. Image captured by @mr_stephenblake who will be punished separately as he was forewarned of the gag. Now I know what they say:
“Never a fistfight picking be
With a man who was birthed in Dundee”
But I say to you, squeezebox man. This Adelaide Plains bogan has one more show with you, TONIGHT at Hamer Hall @artscentremelbourne. And at some point in that ninety minutes, I will END you.
Capiche? @chat10looks3
Tickets still available. Bring swabs.
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Thank you @birdlifeoz for advising that today is #ploverappreciationday! Let us take a moment to respect this truly implausible bird, which likes to nest in the most perilous places imaginable and then get incredibly mad when you have the temerity to walk past them on the, uh, footpath where they are raising their little balls of fluff. Humans are probably the only other species with a comparably senseless disregard for self-preservation, so this goes out to shorebirds and dotterels everywhere, regardless of plumage.
Annabel Crabb Instagram - One of the greatest cooking tips I was ever given (I think it was from @alicekateryan thank you) - was to put a Parmesan rind into my minestrone while cooking. It enhances the depth of flavour to a startling degree. Also works with bolognese but of course that is advice best run by @benshewry who has spent more time in the lab on this one than I.
So I never throw away a Parmesan rind. I wrap it and pop it in the freezer for future use.
I have been working some very long hours of late and a couple of days ago I decided to take a quick break while the kettle was boiling and consolidate my cheese rinds. Yes, there were TWENTY in my freezer.
Fortunately, winter is coming. 🧀
Annabel Crabb Instagram - WOW. Just met and had such an intensely fascinating conversation with @najwashihab, the Indonesian broadcaster, journalist, actor and now media entrepreneur who co-founded @narasi.tv and @narasinewsroom six years ago … I quake before her cumulative 45 MILLION social media followers incl 25 million here on Instagram … such a deft thinker about the future of media, the future of democracy, the removal or certain old barriers and protections and the enduring value of accuracy, authenticity, trust and respect for your audience. Truly, Najwa, an honour. Thank you very much to @dfat’s Penny Williams for thinking that we would enjoy each other’s company: Madam, you were CORRECT. Brain buzzing. ❤️
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Salad for an oily-minded pescatarian in need of a protein and iron boost … chickpeas, Sirena chilli tuna, hard boiled egg, cime di rapa, green olives, capers, toasted almonds. Dressing is a basic cigarette with a question mark of mustard
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Okay. I knew that Ann Patchett of @parnassusbooks would be a fun person to interview because like anyone who’s read her books and essays, I know that she is observant and smart and powered by decency. But wow. She really exhibited a turn of speed last night and interviewing her was like being on a very powerful motorbike, not always sure of who’s driving but not caring because the EXHILARATION is so intense. So many funny moments. Also I got heckled by my Dad from the audience … not a first for me, but a first for the @sydwritersfest audience and - I’m pretty confident - a first for Patchett. (I asked what it was that made her sure even from her early 20s that she didn’t want to have children and she paused for about TEN SECONDS and I thought oh god is she going to tell me to get knotted and then Dad yells “Ya don’t have to answer that” from the front row. Then she unspools just such a rousing, intimate, funny, scorching set of insights I could have, I don’t know, cheered or kissed her and anyway it was superb and thanks for your assistance Pop Crabb. He’s coming the Great Debate tonight at Town Hall too so stand by for more banana skins to be thrown in my oratorical path).
But also the best thing was sitting next to this fabulous visiting American writer and seeing her respond to the always smart and funny and optimistic Uncle Michael West welcoming us to Gadigal land. The spine chilling performance by @jazzmoney_______ whose poetry hit the note of our times; uncertainty, fear, powerlessness, yet unaccountably stained with hope we can’t wash out. Also, watching Ann Patchett witness an Arts minister @jgnswmlc declare that this state will not tolerate book banning in any circumstance. And then afterwards @jetlagmama materializes with her collection of biscuits she has iced as various Patchett book covers and my other friend @kristy_reads who named her cat after Ann. Ann: “Well I do know a person who named their dog Patchett, so now I have a dog AND a cat! Can a ferret be far away?”
Anyway … well, in dark times it felt like a good night. There are so many good things on at the festival - get along if you’re able to.

Annabel Crabb Instagram - An extraordinary and expectation-defying three years. But some recent mistakes show that when you start being the bookies’ favourite, life gets a lot more challenging. My new column - on the fortunes of aspiring PM Peter Dutton - is up now at @abcnews_au … head to the site or follow the link in my bio.
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Peeps, I’m going to be writing a regular political column for @abcnews_au on Wednesdays from now on. Starting today with a brisk romp through the art of war between politicians and lawyers … there’s a link in my bio or you can just find it on the ABC home page. XAC
Annabel Crabb Instagram - Hey friends if you come across this @instagram account pretending to be me … it really isn’t. And if it DMs you to help support the RESTAURANT I OPENED… ahhh… please don’t. I trust that most people who know me would be too helpless with laughter at the idea of my managing a restaurant to even click on a dodgy link but … you’re all kind and optimistic people so probably worth warning. Also if I do ever open a restaurant, probably don’t invest unless you enjoy the visuals of an enthusiastic lady ordering a million expensive ingredients then forgetting to charge people or just insisting they stay for seven hours.
Whoever you actually are, tanaia_0982018 … tough way to make a living mate.
Annabel Crabb Instagram - HUGE NEWS about the Melbourne show. Tickets in bio.
Annabel Crabb Instagram - People, it takes a LOT to get this face out of @leigh_sales. Props to the young journo who made it happen… do yourself a favour and catch The Assembly streaming on @abciview from 8.30 tonight. A welcome shot of joy and deep humanity. Plus @samneilltheprop which is always an incentive right?? Congrats to all involved in this terrific show. ❤️
Annabel Crabb Instagram - This is Bunnings, an adult ringtail being released by @wireswildliferescue volunteer Cara (a lovely neighbour) into our backyard which happens to have a generous supply of lilli pillies (aka Possum Catnip). Unlike many of the rescues, Bunnings was not injured or orphaned … he was just caught red-handed in the nursery section of the shop from which he takes his name, and was eating into the profits hence the call for relocation. They do an amazing job these volunteers… some of the rescues are sadder and harder and there’s not always a happy ending but the fact that there is a whole network caring for these fellow creatures is lovely to know. Or collecting swamp mahogany and lemon Myrtle for Cara’s charges and dropping these tasty items in the basket on her doorstep. Welcome@to our hood, Bunnings! You’ll find that lower prices really are just the beginning… 😂

Annabel Crabb - 7.7K Likes - Massive thanks to the team keeping me on the road for @melbcomedyfestival this week at the @capitoltheatresydney … Instagram is not a very realistic medium and neither is a comedy show (although there are some sad bits in mine) - I am a very chatty person but for about six months now have been suffering from something called muscle tension dysphonia which strains my voice and is quite hurty.

This morning, 14yo lad suspended his otherwise consistent campaign for me to let him have either a bearded dragon or a dirt bike for long enough to make and bring me smashed avocado and cream cheese on toast with capers and lemon zest, with a sweet little fruit salad and a cup of tea. Thank you darling. And no you still can’t have a lizard or a dirt bike. ❤️

Annabel Crabb - 5.5K Likes - Back home in #radelaide for @adlfringe with a new love show about food and politics, The Grilling Season.

The rice is rice bubbles tossed in melted white chocolate. A thing of delight. Annabel Crabb - 3.8K Likes - This is Lachlan Kean, who died a year ago aged 37 of bowel cancer… one of the growing cohort of young fit people diagnosed with a disease we tend to think of as something that happens to older people.

Annabel Crabb - 3.5K Likes - Congratulations to one of the most extraordinary humans I know, Rosanna Barbero from @addiroad who has just been announced as winner of @multiculturalnsw’s 2024 Human Rights Medal.

Annabel Crabb - 3.3K Likes - I went to @ngvmelbourne on Friday to see a specific painting but while I was there in the 18th century wing I stumbled across these incredible creations by Adelaide glass artist @vintagemurtagh … she’s made these ancient Athenian style vessels but when you look closely at the scenes depicted they are of Covid lockdown… Centrelink queues, tired-looking people on their phones wearing masks and queuing up for toilet paper at the checkout … so clever and articulate, also reflecting how ancient the idea of plague is.

Caption : I went to @ngvmelbourne on Friday to see a specific painting but while I was there in the 18th century wing I stumbled across these incredible creations by Adelaide glass artist @vintagemurtagh … she’s made these ancient Athenian style vessels but when you look closely at the scenes depicted they are of Covid lockdown… Centrelink queues, tired-looking people on their phones wearing masks and queuing up for toilet paper at the checkout … so clever and articulate, also reflecting how ancient the idea of plague is. I then found the artist on here and looked at some of her other stuff – incredible, check it out @vintagemurtagh – and learned that I caught that little two-item exhibit by one day!

Annabel Crabb - 3.2K Likes - So much commentary around this week about the King’s new portrait by Jonathan Yeo… this one, by the @washingtonpost’s @sebastian.smee, made me laugh out loud … “unaccountably frightening” 😂😂😂 (swipe for highlights)

I could barely stand to eat it and then discovered that I really actually could. Cake is from @flourandstone … many pistachios and teeny tiny rosebuds came to great harm. ❤️ thanks team

Annabel Crabb - 3.1K Likes - Beautiful birthday celebration this weekend for my lovely friend @fionahughes3, a warm hearted, modest, funny, super competent general delight of a person.

This one, concocted in collaboration with @glamgwenblake and modeled on the Swedish concept of Smorgastorte (or sandwich cake, and yes there are many umlauts and whatchamacallits missing from my reference) involves several large miche loaves from @goodwoodbakeshop from which rounds of bread were extracted like those arctic ice plug things, and layered with: Salmon rillettes (hot smoked) Zucchini and dill frittata Beetroot pate Tarama whipped w cream cheese. ❤️ (And as usual thanks to @mr_stephenblake for photography, well the good photos anyway)

Annabel Crabb - 3.1K Likes - This is my beautiful friend Eran Svigos - artist, raconteur, inventor of the aerosol cocktail, shoe fetishist, jewellery designer and co founder of @palasjewellery… She has been gone longer now, I realised today, than I knew her.

Shoutout to Beverley Bird and Akers Flock. And for my son who has been chased by ducks in parks a number of times, the duck breeder Chase Parkes was especially apposite. Congratulations to all category winners.

Annabel Crabb - 2.7K Likes - Just taking a second to reflect on this feat - one person winning the @thestellaprize and @milesfranklinliteraryaward in quick succession, with a book that took ten years to write.

Annabel Crabb - 2.5K Likes - Finished off a crazed week of racing about, writing, shows in Adelaide and Canberra and just wrapped up in Brisbane, sore of voice and body and all I need is to go to bed after eating a Vietnamese noodle salad. Night all.

Annabel Crabb - 2.5K Likes - This is the moment on Tuesday night at which Scottish-born classical accordionist James Crabb viciously pranked @leigh_sales by handing her a BOOBYTRAPPED squeezebox on stage at the Opera House in front of the @australianchamberorchestra.

Annabel Crabb - 2.3K Likes - One of the greatest cooking tips I was ever given (I think it was from @alicekateryan thank you) - was to put a Parmesan rind into my minestrone while cooking.

Annabel Crabb - 2.2K Likes - Okay.

Annabel Crabb - 1.9K Likes - This is Bunnings, an adult ringtail being released by @wireswildliferescue volunteer Cara (a lovely neighbour) into our backyard which happens to have a generous supply of lilli pillies (aka Possum Catnip).
