I got a chance to finally watch the film in all of its glory and it delivers!!! My enormous respect goes out to @mattreevesla , @greigfraser_dp , @jchinlund and the entire team for their incredible contribution to the batman franchise. I honestly got a bit emotional when the scenes unfolded…it was so visceral and overwhelming. Truly thankful to be apart of this amazing project. Here are a few front angle renders I did of the last few files before I sent them back to the amazing design/production team working at Warner Brothers. If you look closely you can see some differences between my last design and the final that made it into the film, mainly the two extra ram rod bars that come out over the bumper. For this front bumper concept I liked the idea of having high tension type metal (tungsten/steel) riveted to the front to create a lighter inner structure but extremely hard exterior. A theme I tried to push through on almost the entire project mimicking the inner workings of Bruce himself (the vehicle is him and he is the vehicle thematically). All in all I produced 11 passes on designs until we got to this point. With such an iconic piece of movie history we needed to make sure it was right and make sure it would live up to the legacy of icons that have been produced before. When James first hired me I was a bit nervous being such a fan of Batman myself but once James gave me the brief and told me a little bit about what this version of Batman would be I could see what the Batmoblie design needed almost immediately and got right to work. Ash Thorp Instagram - We aimed to preserve the authentic beauty of the C6 Corvette’s iconic lines while expanding its potential for Feras’s racing ambitions. Lowering the car for improved aerodynamics at high speeds was crucial, leading to modifications in the front bumper, lip, front fenders, side skirts, rear 3/4 panel, diffuser, wing, and uprights. We redesigned wheel arches for maximum suspension clearance, allowing the car to sit 3 inches lower than before, and widened it to enhance track width. Widening the body naturally elongated its already curvaceous lines, allowing design elements to find their organic form. After setting the design parameters, the build evolved through iterative processes until the final shapes emerged. This project signifies a new era for us, incorporating a new pipeline and workflow utilizing CAD software. I made these tests back when the film was released in theaters and havent had time to share them. It was so fun to take a couple weekends and build out props and sets and light them and find interesting new ways of seeing things. I love having these total creative fits where I cant do much of anything but create and explore. Big thank you to the entire team on Dune for sparking the fire of muse. - Created using Unreal Engine. Ash Thorp Instagram - Its been some time since I have looked at these. I felt it would be fun to dust some of these old drawing off and share them. I first started these as an effort to get back into drawing. That is my core and my root as an artist. Its my first love and first memories of working with art. Something so honest and raw about all of the imperfections that amass when the mind, eye, hand connect. I have over 700 of these sketches. Some are well polished and others are very rough. Perhaps someday I will come back to these. With the dawn of ai image generation I find it even more rewarding and imporant to implement my own artistic voice and imperfection.
