Barbara Niven Instagram - What a shock to hear that my dear friend and coworker Treat Williams has died. Such an unexpected and immense loss. My heart and prayers are with his family, who he loved so much.  Treat lived large and savored every bit of life. He loved his craft and it was an honor to spend six years with him on Chesapeake Shores. He truly was the patriarch of our family, both on and off the set. And he made it so much fun.  He would suddenly break into a song from Grease or Hair as we were rehearsing a scene, and came in with horrible dad jokes every day to make the crew laugh. What an actor he was. I think he was this generation’s Spencer Tracy.  Treat was a pilot and loved flying. He often texted me photos from the window of his airplane, looking out at the sky. He knew that one of my favorite poems is "High Flight", written by John Gillespie Magee. It talks about "touching the face of God" while you're flying. I always asked Treat, is that what it feels like? Did you touch God today? I think that's what he is doing right now. Fly high, Treat. Thank you for letting us fly with you for a little while. Barbara Niven Instagram - Look who I got to hug and catch up with last night! Ashley Williams! After she wrapped filming yesterday, she stopped at my hotel and we had a quick glass of wine. Oh my gosh, she is such a bright light. And of course she’s wearing a T-shirt that says “This Girl Loves Christmas Movies”. I loved doing #ChristmasInEvergreen movies with her, we have to find something else to do together soon. Did you know she’s also a Director now too? She truly is a difference maker, and a mentor who always remembers to pay it forward. I’m so proud of her, and so grateful she is in my life. Forever. 💃❤️

I feel a little lost so I just ordered french fries and Chardonnay in the Newark airport. It’s hard not to feel the loss of people who are no longer here, but it is a blessing to be surrounded by family and friends that I adore. It’s about making new memories, yet not forgetting the old ones. It’s about being grateful for abundance and gifts, but even more so for the ability to give. And most of all it is about remembering what Christmas really means. The holidays should be about compassion and empathy, knowing that so many are struggling now in this world. Barbara Niven Instagram - So many of you have been asking how my family is doing in the fires. Thank you for your prayers and your concern. So far I am safe in my area. It was way too close for comfort and I stayed up for two nights monitoring the evacuation areas, but we did not have to evacuate. My daughter and her family are safe too. New fires popped up yesterday though so we just have to stay vigilant. The winds are supposed to get stronger again, they have started again already. I have watched the news in horror, just like you, and it feels and looks like the apocalypse. Thank you to the firefighters and to the first responders, and everyone who has literally moved mountains to help us. My heart is breaking for those who lost everything. I don’t know why it touched some and left others. I’m beyond grateful, but devastated for those who are not so lucky. Please keep them in your prayers and help however you can. We truly need each other. There for the grace of God go any of us. 🙏💔 #losangeles #wildfires #prayers

Barbara Niven Instagram - And that’s a wrap! I’m at Vancouver Airport, going back to rainy LA. (We desperately need rain, but really do we need to get it all at once?!!!) Thinking back on the last couple of weeks, it’s been an amazing time both personally and professionally. I stayed in the same house with @alisweeney, and every night we would work on lines over our fave red wine, and talk about what it means to be a woman, how much we love our families and how fast they are growing, and about our journeys in this business. I love her like my own daughter. I’m so glad they are bringing Hannah Swensen mysteries back, thank you @hallmarkmovie. Delores is one of my favorite characters I’ve ever gotten to play. Every time I put on her red lips, I just feel sassier. It was very hard to say goodbye to Ali and the crew yesterday. I just got back to my trailer and discovered that our dear AD has gifted me with a perfect red rose from her garden. I am missing home and my own roses, so this really made me smile. Barbara Niven Instagram - Update at 8:30 pm: Life right now feels so random. Huge highs and lows… and for me, really honing in on the meaning of life. What is precious, and what is okay to let go. YOU are precious to me. Thank you for jumping in with your prayers. They are working for me, but unfortunately, that means others are not so lucky. Because as the wind shifts from my direction, it goes to hurt someone else. It’s devastating. All of those who are left standing will definitely have survivor guilt. I think I’m a bit in shock, going on very little sleep for several days now. I can hardly open my eyes. Everyone is exhausted, because we stay awake all night to listen to the fire alerts on our phones. But by the grace of God, my family and I are safe here for the time being. The winds are starting again tonight, though, and are predicted to be strong this weekend and then worse on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. So who knows what will happen. But right now, we are safe. Underneath the shock, I am utterly grateful to see the love and kindness you have shown me and others here. You have given me much strength. Thanks again for your prayers, and thanks to the firefighters and responders who are defending us at their own peril. Please continue to be kind to each other. Barbara Niven Instagram - Post Sunday update Again, thank you for your support and prayers from all of us here in Los Angeles. Whether our homes were torched or not, we all feel like we have been living in a war zone. I can’t help but think of all the people and families around the world who are actually living in war zones. Gaza, Ukraine and so many more. This is their normal. I can’t imagine parents who go to sleep not knowing if their kids will have enough to eat or a safe place to sleep. There is no rhyme or reason to a natural disaster. And it can happen to any one of us. They have been increasing because of climate change. These new extreme weather conditions and events will be increasing throughout the world unless we do something. And when a disaster does happen, it is up to the rest of us as world citizens to help, however and wherever we can. Let us start in our own neighborhood today. Look around your own neighborhood. What can you do to help? Do a kindness, spread a smile, call someone who lives alone. The world is full of fear and hate and blame right now. But we each have a choice to contribute to that or to help ease it. I choose to help by spreading love. I hope you will too. I cherish each one of you. Thank you for coming together on this site. Barbara Niven Instagram - September 11, 2001. I’m sure each of us remembers exactly where we were and what we were doing as we watched those unthinkable events play across our TV screens. No matter how many years pass, the visions still haunt us. Today, we honor the victims of 9/11 and their families and pay tribute to all who have fought to right those wrongs and keep us safe. We will never forget the tragedy. But let us also never forget how our nation came together to help each other heal with Faith, Hope and Love. We became a country united, in a way I had not seen in my lifetime. My wish today for all of us is to honor that concept by taking time to reach out and commit a random act of kindness to someone. It doesn’t have to be big, just something from your heart to theirs. Talk to your neighbor. Make a phone call to someone who needs to hear your voice. Choose to say something kind. Huge thanks to all the Hallmark staff who put this evening together, it was a home run. I also got a chance to see and say thank you to all the people who put the movies and shows together, from start to finish. It was great to see and hug our family of actors too, because usually we only see each other on a film set. I’m so proud to be part of the Hallmark brand. I felt like Cinderella last night, but I was glad to kick off my heels and put my sneakers back on during the ride home. And… look who was waiting for me when I got home. My latest senior rescue, Tinker Bell. She’s 5 pounds, 15 years old, deaf and almost completely blind. She also can’t use her back right leg very well because a car ran her over. But she’s safe with me now, and she completely is the Queen of the house. Awww. She sends her love to you too. Barbara Niven Instagram - Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there, and to all the father figures and mentors who are making a difference in the lives of children. Once again, I am up in Vancouver where my father was born. Every time I land here I feel my father around me and get beautiful little signs and messages from him. I know he is my angel, and I feel safe knowing he is here.  This photo is of the sky at sunset last year when we were wrapping up Chesapeake Shores. I toasted the end of the show with Dad’s favorite Yellowtail wine, and as I watched, a cloud formed in the sky in front of me. It literally looked like an angel with wings. Can you see it? Coincidence? Or a beautiful manifestation of love and light that never fades. Dad loved music and lived for playing his guitar and harmonica. I picture him doing that right now, making beautiful music up in heaven. Happy Father’s Day, dad! If you see Treat, maybe he can sing along with you this year. Barbara Niven Instagram - Just found this photo of me from the late 80s. Jessica and I were going to go see our fave show of all time, “Phantom of the Opera”. We splurged to see it together several times, and wore out the CD set singing along with it in the car at the top of our lungs. And yes, this is my real hair. In those days, we used to dry it upside down and squinch it to get it as high and big as possible. My hair was so easy then. (I think the 80s were my best decade.) My hair still loves to be big, which is a problem. I fight it all the time, especially when I film in rainy Vancouver. The moisture makes my hair curly, and it gets bigger and bigger as we shoot a scene. Actually, that makes it perfect for when I play Delores, because she loves having big pageant hair. My heart and prayers are with his family, who he loved so much.  Treat lived large and savored every bit of life. He loved his craft and it was an honor to spend six years with him on Chesapeake Shores. He truly was the patriarch of our family, both on and off the set. And he made it so much fun.  He would suddenly break into a song from Grease or Hair as we were rehearsing a scene, and came in with horrible dad jokes every day to make the crew laugh. What an actor he was. He knew that one of my favorite poems is "High Flight", written by John Gillespie Magee. It talks about "touching the face of God" while you're flying. Because as the wind shifts from my direction, it goes to hurt someone else. It’s devastating. All of those who are left standing will definitely have survivor guilt. I think I’m a bit in shock, going on very little sleep for several days now. I can hardly open my eyes. Everyone is exhausted, because we stay awake all night to listen to the fire alerts on our phones. But by the grace of God, my family and I are safe here for the time being. The winds are starting again tonight, though, and are predicted to be strong this weekend and then worse on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. So who knows what will happen. But right now, we are safe. Underneath the shock, I am utterly grateful to see the love and kindness you have shown me and others here. You have given me much strength. Thanks again for your prayers, and thanks to the firefighters and responders who are defending us at their own peril. Please continue to be kind to each other. There is no rhyme or reason to a natural disaster. And it can happen to any one of us. They have been increasing because of climate change. And when a disaster does happen, it is up to the rest of us as world citizens to help, however and wherever we can. Let us start in our own neighborhood today. Look around your own neighborhood. Whether our homes were torched or not, we all feel like we have been living in a war zone. I can’t help but think of all the people and families around the world who are actually living in war zones. Once again, I am up in Vancouver where my father was born. Every time I land here I feel my father around me and get beautiful little signs and messages from him. I know he is my angel, and I feel safe knowing he is here.  This photo is of the sky at sunset last year when we were wrapping up Chesapeake Shores. We splurged to see it together several times, and wore out the CD set singing along with it in the car at the top of our lungs. And yes, this is my real hair. In those days, we used to dry it upside down and squinch it to get it as high and big as possible. My hair was so easy then. (I think the 80s were my best decade.) My hair still loves to be big, which is a problem. I fight it all the time, especially when I film in rainy Vancouver. The moisture makes my hair curly, and it gets bigger and bigger as we shoot a scene. Actually, that makes it perfect for when I play Delores, because she loves having big pageant hair.
