Individually, we have suffered from addiction, loss, anxiety, and health issues, but as a team we are embarking on this incredible journey. We will be tested, mentally and physically, as we train for a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and 26.2 mile run.

And today, on Thanksgiving, it’s my family. We are far from perfect, but we are awesome in countless ways and fortunate to have each other. We laugh non-stop, hug, and reminisce, and I’m grateful for their unconditional love, support, and presence in my life.

Dan Karaty - 14.7K Likes - This is Gordon. We were fellow judges on Holland’s Got Talent for years and became great, fast friends. We shared endless laughs and made a great connection because of our careers, partying, and senses of humor. Regrettably, I took advantage of our friendship.

I used Gordon as an excuse for my hard partying at different events, Queensdays, and after parties. In the press, to my wife, and to production, I would sight Gordon to explain away my own, drunken behavior. He was an easy target to place the blame. It was totally unfair.

Through the 12-steps, which can be difficult, and in writing my book, If I’m Being Honest, I recognized this and the need to acknowledge and apologize for it. Gordon has a big heart, and continues to support my recovery journey…especially with jokes we could never share publicly 😂.

Dan Karaty - 1.9K Likes - In honor of September being National Recovery Month, I’m sharing part of my recovery story. Thank you @hilaryphelps_ for nominating me. What a beautiful friend I’ve made in the sober community.

My unhealthy relationship with alcohol was evident from the beginning, when I was just 14 years old. I ignored the warning signs.

As I got older, I became a master manipulator and found countless ways to justify my drunken behavior. I ignored a car accident, a DUI, and waking up in the hospital.

Success in my career brought about a serious entitlement complex that only fueled my drinking even further. I ignored the pleas from my loving, concerned wife.

When the pandemic tore down the facade I had constructed around me, I turned to drinking 24/7. I could not ignore what I was doing to my kids.

I entered rehab in May of 2021 and it not only changed my life, but the lives of the people around me as well. I am grateful for every day that I am living, sober and present.
