Daniel Johns Instagram - I would have preferred to say nothing but here are the facts. Australian Story reached out to me via my team ‘as a courtesy’ on Aug 11 to let me know that they were doing a story on @bengillies888 and @chris_joannou_ I was and remain incredibly supportive of them telling their story. I was asked at the end of filming to be interviewed about their contribution to the band and although I wished them all the best, I respectfully declined for one reason. I haven’t been involved in the book nor am I aware of the contents. I’ve asked on many occasions to read the book but haven’t been sent a copy, consequently I was uncomfortable being interviewed to help promote it. I was later asked by @abctv via Silverchair’s label @sonymusicaustralia to clear 7 songs for iView, (most of which were composed solely by me) to soundtrack a 2 Episode series. One particular use related to Ana’s Song being featured as they discussed my battle with anorexia. I said to Sony and ABC that I would be open to approving all songs provided I received a copy of the book to ensure I wasn’t having my songs used to promote something I had no visibility on. I was told again that Ben & Chris would not give me a copy to read. That’s why the iView use was denied. @leigh_sales posted on Sept 12 that the Australian Story would not be available on iView due to ‘rights issues’, she later deleted this post and ABC proceeded to feature the story on iView without a license in place. Sony reached out to have them take it down, it took ABC 3 days to remove it at which point most people had already viewed the story. I’ve also been affected by Silverchair rights not being approved, I re-recorded my own compositions for many applications including my podcast because the recordings were denied by another band member. As always, I wish Ben & Chris nothing but success and happiness. I have never sought to block their book, I merely asked to receive a copy in advance to fact check it. I was concerned about my personal health records being discussed, I don’t think that’s unreasonable. Everyone is tagged, if I’ve got it wrong please provide the evidence or kindly please stop the unhelpful speculation.
Daniel Johns Instagram - I’m back 🕊 1. I wanted to first say a huge thank you to everyone for the infinite love and support while I’ve been gone. The gratitude I feel cannot be expressed. I’ve been working so hard on my health (physical, emotional and mental) and I’m on a journey to recovery- I’m feeling so much better. If anyone else is also on their own journey, let’s do it together. 2. I’ve made a 3 part-docuseries called ‘Inside the Mind of Daniel Johns’- the first Episode ‘Reclaim Your Art’ will be on my YouTube channel tonight at 6pm AEST. It’s the deepest I’ve ever gone, I talk about everything. Special thank you to the incredible @meganholiday for flying down to Australia on short notice to interview me in my home. 3. Last but certainly not least, today I am launching the most ambitious project of my entire career. An immersive art exhibition called Past, Present & FutureNever. The response to FN has been so truly incredible and I’m still kind of in shock about it- this is the most vast part of the multiverse I’ve been building for years. This exhibition showcases- * an incredibly comprehensive collection of original antiquities from my childhood including original Frogstomp lyric sheets written as a 14 year old * A display of all of my original guitars * An ever changing, evolving collection of super rare art and merch * Epic murals and original paintings from some of my favourite Australian artists and some of my own art * A collection of installations and interactive exhibits showcasing technology from the FutureNever including a real time-travelling DanieLorean and a ghost pianola that magically plays my songs from Frogstomp to FutureNever in ways you’ve never heard before. Past, Present & FutureNever is hosted exclusively at @rialtomelbourne and is brought to you in collaboration with @radiovelvet and @bmgausnz - without hyping it too much, the scale and scope needs to be seen to be believed. Daniel Johns Instagram - One of the motivating factors behind my ‘comeback’ was to use my platform for good. Today we reached an incredible milestone with confirmation that through personal and public donations we’ve now raised and disbursed over $100,000. I want to thank everyone who has contributed in any way, large or small. Together we’ve helped rescue and care for the beautiful Sweep with @animalsasia and just made a further donation to contribute towards building a new sanctuary in Vietnam and rescue the remaining bears being abused in bear farms so we can end this cruel practice for good. Together we’ve just joined with my dear friend @dylanalcott to provide a $15k scholarship to help fund an Australian with a disability to pursue their dreams in the Arts space. Together we have provided much needed funds to the wonderful people at @equienergyyouth youth to help roll out their TAR3 program across the country to help young people in severe emotional stress. This week we are making a meaningful donation to @awabakal_ltd a locally based First Nations community organisation who in their own words “care for our people’s health, their teeth and their mental wellbeing. Help our people quit the smokes. Care for Mums to be, new Mums and their babies. We educate our kids, support our youth, help our people access the NDIS and provide care for our elders.” We’ve continued our support for @dog_rescue_newcastle including paying for the legendary Frenchie Bohdi’s skin treatment. We’ve adopted the iconic Bat ‘Scoundrel’ and continued our support for @batrescueinc We used our ‘Nup To The Cup’ campaign with @eddiezammit and @dizzylittledotty to make a donation to @horserescueaustralia We’ve continued our support for @supportact an incredible organisation doing amazing things. We’ve also made some confidential donations to individuals in need. It’s a privilege to be in a position to play a small part in positive change, it’s been inspiring to see so many of you making donations at a time when living costs are so high. Daniel Johns Instagram - Hope this picture of the pups finds you well. I know I’ve been a little quiet on here lately and I’ve been meaning to do a post like this for months. I spent so much of the last couple of years on my phone (on Instagram specifically) as I made a commitment to be present to support the music. As someone who never really did technology, I love the chance to chat to people on here about things we are passionate about, music, animals, films, art etc. At some points though, the socials stuff can be a bit overwhelming as I’m sure it is for many of you. I’m taking a little break, working on some health stuff, some charity work, getting out of the house a little bit including a couple of comedy shows and using this time to finally finish the music for the Featurette that will come out later in 2023 (movies are hard work 😂). I’ll definitely pop back up on here when/if I have something interesting to say or more importantly with any more dog pics. I was skating the day before with my mate ‘Chips’ in the Market Town carpark, Chips was in a local hardcore band called Disengage this whole scene inspired the song ‘Satin Sheets’ on Neon Ballroom. I can’t remember whether this was before or after I was kidnapped by @ajohns74 after the Knights won the Grand Final in ‘97. I love this photo because I’m smiling and because it was taken by my Mum. It also inspired the ‘Tickle Me Johnsy’ that was made by legendary puppeteer @jarrodboutcher and sits proudly in the exhibition. Sam was a beautiful son to De, a supportive brother to Cheyenne, a loyal cousin to Lachlan, a respected band mate and a friend to many. I’d never met Sam but after reading @leesonjosh ‘s story and seeing his former bandmate and friend @zanefleming ‘s silverchair shirt in this pic I reached out to his family to check in. We spoke about honouring Sam and making sure his legacy and love of music was never forgotten. Like me, most of you won’t have met Sam but it would mean a lot if you could leave a message of support for him here or elsewhere. For locals, there is a benefit show ‘Shred for Sam’ tonight at @the_newy_ with a line-up of amazing Newcastle musicians showing up to raise funds for Sam’s family including Zane’s excellent band @lostplaza To Sam’s family including De, Cheyenne and Lachlan, my heart goes out to you all. Daniel Johns Instagram - Beavis and Butt-head…and me? Nobody understands global 90’s teenage fame like Beavis and Butt-head. As silverchair began to blow up in the US, I was obsessed with Beavis and Butt-head. A career highlight was when they absolutely roasted my haircut and music while watching the Tomorrow video- in retrospect I think I deserved it. Beavis and Butt-head felt like school friends to me. In the 90’s I’d religiously watch VHS tapes I’d brought back from US tours I’d done with silverchair. I didn’t leave the house much so sometimes they were the only company I had. To be chilling with them, jamming to Israel’s Son and having a good laugh in the FutureNever is as good as any therapist’s couch. This isn’t the 60’s dillhole, welcome to FutureNever! Daniel Johns Instagram - A few people have reached out to myself and @radiovelvet about making some archival prints of @claire_foxton ‘s mind-blowing mural of the ‘Freak Era’ me. This 8m mural is truly incredible and serves as a backdrop to the gallery space of Past, Present & FutureNever. I’ve hand-numbered 300 copies of this print and both myself and Claire have signed them all. This signed edition will not be made available again, so if you’re keen head over to the link in bio and grab yours. Claire is an artist that inspires me, I am truly humbled to have her be such a big part of this exhibition. Here are her words on the piece- “The portrait aims to capture the essence of Daniel Johns behind the patchwork of headlines and accolades. There’s a real sense of duality in his story and his persona - wonderful contrasts and depth of character that only add to his genius. I wanted to express a strength and vulnerability in this work. The colours, inspired by Johns’ album covers, were built up in many translucent layers through a process of experimentation and are revealed through a delicate rendering of Johns at the beginning of his career.” - Claire Foxton

This laundromat features prominently in the forthcoming Featurette ‘What If The Future Never Happened?’. People can experience the future of laundry by interacting with bespoke custom built Splash Quings made by hand by the legends @fingerscrossed_creative while perusing a backdrop of vintage shirts and posters amassed from years of touring from 1994. I’ve always had a fascination with laundromats, they were a place of normality and renewal while touring. This concept has followed me through the FutureNever from an impromptu photoshoot with @ebflow at @barrattslaundry (shout out to the Space Jam pinball) during COVID right through to packaging deluxe exhibition tickets in these collectible boxes with @dizzylittledotty I’ve been told that this first run of FrogWash boxes are set to sell out in a couple of weeks and we are working on a new box to come with some special freaky surprises. #nobodyknowsimanamphibian

Australian Story reached out to me via my team ‘as a courtesy’ on Aug 11 to let me know that they were doing a story on @bengillies888 and @chris_joannou_ I was and remain incredibly supportive of them telling their story. I was asked at the end of filming to be interviewed about their contribution to the band and although I wished them all the best, I respectfully declined for one reason. I haven’t been involved in the book nor am I aware of the contents. I’ve asked on many occasions to read the book but haven’t been sent a copy, consequently I was uncomfortable being interviewed to help promote it. I was later asked by @abctv via Silverchair’s label @sonymusicaustralia to clear 7 songs for iView, (most of which were composed solely by me) to soundtrack a 2 Episode series. One particular use related to Ana’s Song being featured as they discussed my battle with anorexia. I said to Sony and ABC that I would be open to approving all songs provided I received a copy of the book to ensure I wasn’t having my songs used to promote something I had no visibility on. I was told again that Ben & Chris would not give me a copy to read. That’s why the iView use was denied. @leigh_sales posted on Sept 12 that the Australian Story would not be available on iView due to ‘rights issues’, she later deleted this post and ABC proceeded to feature the story on iView without a license in place. Sony reached out to have them take it down, it took ABC 3 days to remove it at which point most people had already viewed the story. I’ve also been affected by Silverchair rights not being approved, I re-recorded my own compositions for many applications including my podcast because the recordings were denied by another band member. As always, I wish Ben & Chris nothing but success and happiness. I have never sought to block their book, I merely asked to receive a copy in advance to fact check it. I was concerned about my personal health records being discussed, I don’t think that’s unreasonable. Everyone is tagged, if I’ve got it wrong please provide the evidence or kindly please stop the unhelpful speculation.

Today we reached an incredible milestone with confirmation that through personal and public donations we’ve now raised and disbursed over $100,000. I want to thank everyone who has contributed in any way, large or small. Together we’ve helped rescue and care for the beautiful Sweep with @animalsasia and just made a further donation to contribute towards building a new sanctuary in Vietnam and rescue the remaining bears being abused in bear farms so we can end this cruel practice for good. Together we’ve just joined with my dear friend @dylanalcott to provide a $15k scholarship to help fund an Australian with a disability to pursue their dreams in the Arts space. Together we have provided much needed funds to the wonderful people at @equienergyyouth youth to help roll out their TAR3 program across the country to help young people in severe emotional stress. This week we are making a meaningful donation to @awabakal_ltd a locally based First Nations community organisation who in their own words “care for our people’s health, their teeth and their mental wellbeing. Help our people quit the smokes. Care for Mums to be, new Mums and their babies. We educate our kids, support our youth, help our people access the NDIS and provide care for our elders.” We’ve continued our support for @dog_rescue_newcastle including paying for the legendary Frenchie Bohdi’s skin treatment. We’ve adopted the iconic Bat ‘Scoundrel’ and continued our support for @batrescueinc We used our ‘Nup To The Cup’ campaign with @eddiezammit and @dizzylittledotty to make a donation to @horserescueaustralia We’ve continued our support for @supportact an incredible organisation doing amazing things. We’ve also made some confidential donations to individuals in need. Caption : One of the motivating factors behind my ‘comeback’ was to use my platform for good. Today we reached an incredible milestone with confirmation that through personal and public donations we’ve now raised and disbursed over $100,000. I want to thank everyone who has contributed in any way, large or small. Together we’ve helped rescue and care for the beautiful Sweep with @animalsasia and just made a further donation to contribute towards building a new sanctuary in Vietnam and rescue the remaining bears being abused in bear farms so we can end this cruel practice for good. Together we’ve just joined with my dear friend @dylanalcott to provide a $15k scholarship to help fund an Australian with a disability to pursue their dreams in the Arts space. Together we have provided much needed funds to the wonderful people at @equienergyyouth youth to help roll out their TAR3 program across the country to help young people in severe emotional stress. This week we are making a meaningful donation to @awabakal_ltd a locally based First Nations community organisation who in their own words “care for our people’s health, their teeth and their mental wellbeing. Help our people quit the smokes. Care for Mums to be, new Mums and their babies. We educate our kids, support our youth, help our people access the NDIS and provide care for our elders.” We’ve continued our support for @dog_rescue_newcastle including paying for the legendary Frenchie Bohdi’s skin treatment. We’ve adopted the iconic Bat ‘Scoundrel’ and continued our support for @batrescueinc We used our ‘Nup To The Cup’ campaign with @eddiezammit and @dizzylittledotty to make a donation to @horserescueaustralia We’ve continued our support for @supportact an incredible organisation doing amazing things. We’ve also made some confidential donations to individuals in need. It’s a privilege to be in a position to play a small part in positive change, it’s been inspiring to see so many of you making donations at a time when living costs are so high. When I think of this time in my life, I think of my home city of Newcastle. It was just before we kicked off the Summer Freak Shows, it was my final year of school at Newcastle High. I was skating the day before with my mate ‘Chips’ in the Market Town carpark, Chips was in a local hardcore band called Disengage this whole scene inspired the song ‘Satin Sheets’ on Neon Ballroom. I can’t remember whether this was before or after I was kidnapped by @ajohns74 after the Knights won the Grand Final in ‘97. I love this photo because I’m smiling and because it was taken by my Mum. It also inspired the ‘Tickle Me Johnsy’ that was made by legendary puppeteer @jarrodboutcher and sits proudly in the exhibition. I love Newcastle, I still live here to this day. 90% of FutureNever was recorded in my house in Newcastle, I chose the vinyl colours of Red and Blue to represent the pride I have in this city, the marble effect of the vinyl symbolises the marble @mattyryan bust of present day me on the cover of the album. To celebrate my love for Newy, Radio Velvet has a Newy bundle with a signed Red and Blue marble vinyl, a postcard from 1997 me (with a super random message from my 17 year old self) and a randomly selected time-travelling DanieLorean pin, hit the LINK IN BIO if you want one. I don’t really hang plaques in my house but I’m hanging this one in my living room because it’s a reminder of the love from you all and it means more than you’ll ever know. It also lights up.
