My heart is aching…Because while my wife @sallirichwhit and I have worked extremely hard to prepare her for this moment in life, it never prepares our hearts. While I'm celebrating that Parker is coming into her self and her womanhood, I'm also grieving over the the fact that she no longer my child. She’s my daughter! So mourning the loss of my child finds my heart extremely heavy. I trust that we have prepared her properly. We just didn’t know that we wouldn’t be prepared for the heart ache. @spelman_college you got a great one who will become greater under your tutelage.

Even if THEY choose to talk about their trials and tribulations, it doesn’t mean that WE have to participate. It just doesn’t. I read books that help me address key areas of my life that I want to improve. I’m passionate about things that help other people. So much so that I wrote a book that helps people do just that. Dondré Whitfield Instagram - If you’re angry at ANY of this. You are not an American that believes is equal rights for all citizens. Just the ones who look like you. You’re not a “patriot” that believes that ALL people who serve their country are patriots. Just the ones who look like YOU!!! If you aren’t upset over a man being killed in his own home with a registered firearm then you don’t believe in the constitutional rights of ALL people. Just the ones who look like YOU? And that’s the problem with America that has never been the “United” States. And that’s a problem.
Dondré Whitfield Instagram - I’ve gotten messages all week about this topic asking me how I felt about it and what my opinion was. So let’s do it. Soooooooo many women were on fire about that interview. And I completely get why! I just sat back, watched and LISTENED. You may hear me speak a lot, and many of you acknowledge that I am a great communicator. Well in order to be that you have to be a great LISTENER first!!!! And therein lies the problem. Most people don’t LISTEN!!!! Far too many women (not all, but too many) fall for men because of their ACCOMPLISHMENTS. So THOSE kind of women immediately think that a guy is valuable because of his accomplishments and the perception of what that means monetarily. Again, therein lies the problem. Because when they heard Jonathan make the comment about “not knowing who Simone was” they immediately got offended. Why? Because that’s how THEY value MEN. Gold medals, Grammy’s, world championships, etc. Jonathan, like most men, doesn’t value his woman based on her accomplishments. He, like most men, values his woman based on compatibility. So many women thought that he was diminishing her accomplishments because he didn’t value her because of them. But again, LISTEN!!!! He values her because of what she IS!!! Not what she DOES!!!! And here’s what’s crazy, those same women are PISSED at Simone that she isn’t swayed by their energy. And if we’re patient, those same women will turn on her and start talking about her height, complexion and her hair!!!! QUICKLY!!!! Why? Because it was never about Simone in the first place.
Dondré Whitfield Instagram - Every woman watching this (the ones who say they aren’t are either lying or are an absolute ANOMALY) are CRINGING and nervous at the sight of this. But this, for a father and a son, is ESSENTIAL in their bonding experience. Two important things to focus on as you watch this, 1-If you listen closely to these boys, they are having a BLAST!!!! Couldn’t be having a better time than having their inner warrior/hunter/daredevil, activated and released in a safe place with their father. This isn’t something that they will be encouraged to do with their mother. They would be worried that they could actually hurt mom if they did roughhouse with her. Their instinct is to love mom and hug her. It goes against their nature to do this with mom. It would be very confusing. Because it requires the re-wiring of natures design. 2-this is an extremely important activity for dad as well. Because any man who denies or tries to repress his inner kid quickly becomes a depressed man. So we have to learn how to find ways to stay connected with the inner kid in us while simultaneously being the protector and provider for those around us. It speaks to our overall health. While we are in this powerful month, I celebrate all the Black fathers who do the things that go unnoticed and and unappreciated. Being a father is the most THANKLESS job on the planet. Even when a young man or woman achieves greatness and gets a second on camera, the first thing they say is, “hi Mom!” You can’t find a restaurant to make a reservation on Mother’s Day. But on Father’s Day you could virtually walk in to the majority of restaurants that you know and sit down like it’s a regular day. Being a father, particularly a black Father, is a thankless job, and for that I send a gigantic shout out to all Black dads. every day society is telling you that you don’t matter. And that you are replaceable and that you are optional. You are NOT. You are raising and protecting a nation. Carry on @mrspb2 I see you brother. Well done.
Dondré Whitfield Instagram - Unfortunately, too many people who see this post will think that it is suggesting that men are more important than women. And that’s one of the biggest problems we have in our society. We are so worried about being in competition with each other that we’re not paying attention to how we could be in concert with each other. If you were making a cake two of the key ingredients in a cake are flour and eggs. Because they are the chief binders of the other ingredients. They are the thing that keeps the cake from falling apart. It doesn’t mean that one is more important than the other , it simply means that when one isn’t present something is going to go terribly wrong with that cake. When a father isn’t present, something is going to go extremely wrong with that daughter or son. And that’s not a feeling that is a fact!!!!! Dennis Prager touches so many things that I often talk about. And one of those things that is so dynamic is that a boy needs a model that he can mirror. And that a girl needs to find safety and security in her father, or she will go around trying to find it in other men. Men, I have said this in the past and I will continue to say it—you are not optional ! you are necessary!!!

Dondré Whitfield Instagram - @michelleobama and I could teach a class. Too many of us, as parents, are out here trying to be our kids FRIENDS. I have told my kids whenever they get beside themselves, “I’m not your FRIEND! I’m your FATHER!” Now don’t get me wrong, I work hard at having a LOVING relationship with my daughter and my son. But just because it’s loving doesn’t mean we’re PEERS or FRIENDS. You can be a confidant and not have the dynamic of being a peer. There is such a thing as firm but LOVING accountability. You can be a friend to your daughter or son once they LEAVE your house!!!!! But as long as you are the ultimate accountability partner, and they live under your roof, being their “friend” is a dangerous approach. And the quicker we get away from concept of “friends” the better off society will be because we will be raising great CITIZENS. Remember, a child that disrespects their parents will disrespect ANYONE!!!!

But off the top of my head let’s deal with these lunchables first— 1-when people from underserved and under resourced communities, particularly people of color, feel like they have to break the law to give their children “a chance at a future” society rarely sees their humanity. 2-Felicity Huffman was sentenced to 2 weeks in prison for this crime. While other women, Black women, have gotten lengthy sentences for trying to send their children to better public schools outside of poverty stricken environments by falsifying their residence. 3-This woman has made millions of dollars. Her daughter would have been fine. The guy told her that her child wouldn’t get into the colleges SHE wanted. Not that she wouldn’t get into ANY colleges!!!! So now this comes down to your wants and not your needs. 4-And lastly, allowing your child to find her way based on her own merits doesn’t make you a bad mother. Teaching her that she deserves MORE than her ABILITIES, and to break the law and cheat other people out of their rightful place, does!!!

And when our biological father is not that model, the effects can be devastating. We often get very angry at our fathers, because they didn’t give us what we needed to matriculate into manhood. And when we reconcile the trauma of our fathers and the lack of information and instruction that they had, it will effectively address the animosity that we have toward them. Dondré Whitfield Instagram - There is an opinion that there are far too many men who are more feminine than ever. Along with many women who are more masculine than ever. I can’t speak to the woman issue because that’s for our sisters to work out in themselves. But I will speak to this notion about men being more feminine than ever before. These kinds affirmations and practices may indeed fall under the category of being a feminine practice as opposed to a masculine practice. But let me further state, and this is the most important part, that when a man goes through these kinds of things to resuscitate and restore himself-and even to build his son into a more whole man, its really speaking to the humanity of that man. And if you are a man who practices this and you encounter a woman who does not, or you encounter a woman who is more comfortable being in her masculine state of being, then they absolutely will call you a feminine man. And not realize that you are simply a man trying to be more human than anything else. Being more human doesn’t mean that I won’t still kick your behind if you hurt or harm me or my loved ones. Being more human doesn’t mean that I still can’t bench press 225 lbs. And it doesn’t mean that I won’t still be a lion in the bed room. It just means that I don’t allow those things to define who I am as a man!!!!!! And therein lies one of the biggest issues in our community. We can’t even recognize that all of us have been denied the ability to get back in touch with our humanity!!!!!

She NEEDS your love. Ans she earned your love the day you decided to commit to her. LADIES, men are the simplest of creatures to be in relationship with. All we truly need is RESPECT. It’s at the center of our peace! Without it, it’s like we’re being starved. It’s the cheering and applause of our hearts that we need to keep going into battle OUTSIDE the home. And it is further, the fuel we need to be dedicated to service INSIDE the home. Without respect you are killing your man and your relationship. Your husband NEEDS your respect. And he EARNED your respect the day he decided to commit to YOU fully. His dedication to YOU and your FAMILY, on a daily basis, is worthy of enough respect to be shown. Respect him by speaking with a soft tone. Respect him by having sex with him (you are his only source for it) Respect him by considering him- tour are a representation of HIM. The easiest way for the world to HURT him is through YOU!!! Lastly, CAN’T show him respect (for whatever reason) then you need to LEAVE that relationship AMICABLY. It’s why the incident that I recently posted about with someone who called the police on me for NOTHING had me so enraged!!! Because these incidents are so mentally taxing, but men are suffering in silence DAILY!!!! Trauma, is not exclusive to one gender!!!! Men and boys are suffering as well. And often it becomes deadly!!!! And the mere notion that the deadly encounter is possible is compromising men and boys mental health. Particularly, us “good ones”. Why? Because you could be shot and killed, at a bar like this or for walking your dogs and someone weaponizes the police because they don’t like you. These instances have to STOP!!!!!

He played a phenomenal round of golf in his tournament but came to moment where he had to make an important decision-win with dishonesty or lose with honor. In a world where everyone encourages you to win at all cost, my son chose to call a penalty on himself, which cost him two strokes and probably the tournament. Even when a young man or woman achieves greatness and gets a second on camera, the first thing they say is, “hi Mom!” You can’t find a restaurant to make a reservation on Mother’s Day. But on Father’s Day you could virtually walk in to the majority of restaurants that you know and sit down like it’s a regular day. Being a father, particularly a black Father, is a thankless job, and for that I send a gigantic shout out to all Black dads. every day society is telling you that you don’t matter. It doesn’t mean that one is more important than the other , it simply means that when one isn’t present something is going to go terribly wrong with that cake. When a father isn’t present, something is going to go extremely wrong with that daughter or son. And that’s not a feeling that is a fact!!!!! Dennis Prager touches so many things that I often talk about. And one of those things that is so dynamic is that a boy needs a model that he can mirror. And that a girl needs to find safety and security in her father, or she will go around trying to find it in other men.
