Caption : Ireland recognises the state of Palestine !! (Trigger warning heartbreaking images of murdered Palestinians) Over the weekend I spoke at the European Writers Festival I was asked about how my Irishness informs my life and my writing. I said that no matter where I am in the world being Irish is my anchor but didn’t have time to expand too much on what that meant. Here’s an example. Irelands recognition of the Palestinian State reflects our own history, the formerly oppressed siding with the currently oppressed. I’ve never really felt more proud to be Irish, nor felt as strongly the necessity of that anchor ! I feel it now keenly in this context, living in the centre of empire, in the beating heart of Babylon where atrocity is normalised and defended everyday, where we are expected to fall in line compliantly and so many clearly do so. But as an Irish person “raised on songs stories of heroes of renown” of freedom fighters, of steadfastness, of unimaginable bravery and integrity in the face of crushing colonial oppression, I know the difference between the coloniser and colonised and I know that the coloniser will employ the full force of their powerful propaganda machine to dehumanise the colonised and try to convince us that they deserve to be destroyed. Have included some images of the response to Irelands decision here too, Have also included some images of the daily slaughter being meted out upon Palestinian people…it’s beyond fucking disgusting…how anybody can justify, deny or entirely ignore what’s happening just beggars belief at this stage 🇵🇸🇮🇪🇵🇸Likes : 6306

Caption : No “new content” needed but just a reminder from 2021 ♾️ Allyship is dead. It must be abundantly clear to everyone that the allyship // privilege paradigm DOESNT WORK. A reimagined framework (and once the dust settles), the hard work of offline coalition building is the only way out of this… “Whiteness’ was a concept popularized by convincing one group of people it would make their lives better, and demonstrating it through the brutal dehumanisation of another group. Now all “whites” even (especially) those who lived in shit conditions and had little power in any other quarter of their lives had the power of life and death over these ‘others’. This is a ‘truth’ that’s had close to 500 years to really embed itself. The question I pose is this: does telling ‘white’ people that racial equality means that their lives have to literally get worse (*but thems the breaks) really seem up to the challenge of uprooting this centuries-old pernicious promise? The allyship narrative is an iteration of the same process of maintaining and reaffirming whiteness, proposing charity at the expense of solidarity. Little in the mainstream anti-racist schtick focuses on challenging the idea of ‘white people’ itself. Rather, it takes the category as an unassailable truth, with the emphasis placed instead on making white people nicer, through a combination of begging, demanding, cajoling and imploring. In the words I so often repeat of Fred Moten “I don’t need your help. I need you to recognise that this shit is killing you too, however much more softly, you stupid motherfucker” 🖤Likes : 4781

Caption : No way I’m making “new content” to respond to the 2024 race riots. It’s all been said before and I honestly think part of the problem is our short term, non strategic, reactionary approach to everything. So just sharing a few bits from the wild ride that was 2020 2021 that not only do I think remain relevant but need to actually be fully addressed !!! (Incidentally the @grazia articles are from one story on Meghan Markle and another on Sancho, Rashford and Sako but could be *INSERT RACIST INCIDENT OF CHOICE” it’s allllllll the same ting) In What White People Can Do Next; From Allyship to Coalition, borrowing from the sociologist Vron Ware, I wrote about how the elimination of pervasive racism is part of an overarching ‘politics of change that does not provide short-term gratification’. The antithesis perhaps then of social media use, with its quick dopamine hits. The harder slog of necessary anti-racist work that occurs offline, certainly doesn’t “reward” us with the same immediate “buzz”. “Don’t be discouraged by this; the on-going nature of this work is part of what makes it all the more urgent. As many of us as possible must embark on the journey”. The effort required may well be more enduring, but so to will be the rewards… In our increasingly fractured and divided times, we must see that our current framing of conversations about race simply don’t work. To continue on the same path is a self indulgence we can no longer afford.Likes : 4692

Caption : Happy Birthday Huey Newton 🖤 Honestly I can’t even believe this man was a real life person, that he existed and that he loved us so much One of the greatest thinkers of the 20th century. An incomparable strategist. A man whose racist teachers dismissed as illiterate and below average intelligence but who would go on to translate the theory’s of philosophers ranging from Plato to Nietzsche to practical application for the people, and the use of the Black Panthers, who gained a PhD in the History of Consciousness while running the party, who eschewed personal fame to ensure Power to the People, (this slogan and the theoretical rationale behind is inspired by Nietzsches Will To Power) who endured years of prison and solitary confinement out of his commitment to liberation, who knew liberation could only be achieved through the hard work of internationalism solidarity (rather than more popular identitarian rhetoric often employed by charlatans to manipulate people). A principled and incomparably brave human being. I wonder what use his mighty intellect might have been put to if it hadn’t been preoccupied with finding a way for the people to survive. Much love to you Huey Newton. One of a kind #hueynewton #powertothepeopleLikes : 2636

Caption : Cover story @violetsimonofficial DISRUPTORS ISSUE ♥️ Being a disruptor means challenging the status quo and going against the grain in your sphere of life. What makes you a disruptor? What was the catalyst that prompted you to start challenging the status quo? From a young age I saw there was a gap between what was “official” and what was ‘true” and I often had a visceral reaction to injustice and hypocrisy. I saw the way the powerful controlled narratives, but power and corruption often go hand in hand, so often what we are told is the ‘right’ way or the ‘just’ way is often just the way that serves the best interests of the ruling classes, and is often morally bankrupt. I think it is an ability to recognise this and a willingness to challenge hegemonic thinking that makes one a disruptor What is your background and what was growing up like for you? What were some of the main challenges you faced and milestones you achieved growing up? How did those experiences influence the person you are today and the profession or vocation you do today? An avid reader from a young age, I turned to books to try and make sense of my experiences and started reading black history as a child. Funnily enough, while it was my isolation growing up in Ireland that in many ways set me in the direction of my studies – I moved to the UK after school to study history and African Studies at SOAS – it was also the fiercely anti imperialist tradition that runs through so much of Irish culture that shaped me too. As I got older, read more widely, as Ireland changed and I started to be able to rehabilitate my relationship with it, I started to see more and more the parallels between Black and Irish radical traditions and became increasingly drawn to politics of coalition. I believe that international solidarity against oppression and exploitation is the only way we might possibly overcome all of the injustices people face globally today. #happyinternationalwomensday ♥️Likes : 2345

I believe that international solidarity against oppression and exploitation is the only way we might possibly overcome all of the injustices people face globally today. #happyinternationalwomensday ♥️Likes : 2345

Caption : I’m really bad at having parties for myself and generally prioritising celebrating special moments in my life. My birthday was approaching and I was stressing a bit about what to do. I was talking to my dear friend @robertdiament about it & as is so characteristic of his generosity he offered to host a birthday party for me in his beautiful home. I haven’t had a birthday party in 5 years and this was my first since leaving London… I was so touched my how many of my friends made the trip to the seaside to celebrate with me… the absolute icing on the cake was my gorgeous brilliant friend @fionaleahydesign offering to design a birthdayscape for me 🤯 I’ve been familiar with Fiona’s work for years and before I had ever met her was slightly obsessed with her ability to transform rooms into real life fairy tale scenes, the fact that she was also Irish was an additional bonus ! When I eventually met her IRL I also discovered that she was a top buzzer the soundest of the sounders, beautiful, brilliant and kind. A real treasure! I love all of these people, so grateful to have you all in my life ! Anyone not pictured I’m so sorry, I don’t love you any less lol was having too much fun to take as many photos as I should, if you have any pls tag also more pics of the table please Heart very full 😭 Thank you too to one of my favourite brands @oliviavonhalle for my beautiful birthday dress, I felt like a slinky minx in it hahaha 🤍🤍🤍Likes : 1850

Gee I wonder what it could be that makes them happier then us ? 🤔 “Wealth as generated by industrial economies” sounds innocuous and progressive but it is shorthand for a way of life that is psychotic, that is exploitative, extractive, dominant, disconnected and essentially antithetical to happiness, satisfaction or contentment. Honestly liberals will never not baffle me. They differ to conservatives in that they appear to perceive / admit that certain social issues exist, yet seem incapable of coming up with any valid solutions because they are incapable of connecting the dots to identify the actual cause of said social issues. Instead they come up with shit like “sustainable goals” (that will never be achieved) other meaningless time wasting and expensive excercises. I’m bored and exhausted and I want to live a life where everybody’s basic needs are met, where everyone’s life is honoured and respected, where everyone has access to community and a support network, and is able to pursue a life of meaningful purpose. Our current system actively prevents that THATS WHY PEOPLE ARE MISERABLE. No more studies abeg #moneybuyshappinessLikes : 1778
