Hera Hilmar Instagram - The Whale Eye of the Storm 🐋

Iceland has just decided, by minister
@svandissvavarsdottir, to start whaling again. The quota this year is 209 fin whales.

Today the ships were allowed to leave harbour, but the elements have spoken and a storm will keep them at bay till Monday.

Right now the film industry fights the whaling industry, that is jeopardising our country's income of at least 100-200 million dollars each year from foreign projects alone. The whaling industry, that is run at a loss each year (at least to the tax books), and at a loss for our reputation as a country.

On the 21st of August we accompanied @peggy_oki
to @svandissvavarsdottir office (Svandis was away so we met an assistant), the office of @gudlaugurthor Minister of Environment (Gudlaugur
was away so we met an assistant), to the Prime
Minister's @katrinjakobsd office (they had closed)
and the Icelandic Parliament (where we met MP of
the Pirate party @halldoramogensen), where she handed them the 161 origami fin whale curtain in
support of the fin whales Iceland is now about to kill
(and the 161 killed last season)

When we left the parliament this whale eye in the
sky was there, looking at us.

No storm that day in sight. No wind.
Just this image in the sky.

Let's all remember this isn't over yet 🐋

Fin whales have a distinctive white right jaw and a darker gray left jaw. This is thought to have developed when swimming and feeding mainly with their right side down and left side up. Hence the colouring, helping them camouflage from threats above and below 🌊

Keep talking, sharing, loving, reading, creating to keep nurturing ourselves and our planet. We’ve done so much already. This part of our story is over. Right now nobody holds a permit to hunt whales in Iceland. Lets keep it that way 💙🐋💙

Hera Hilmar Instagram - 💧We are hosting an event in Reykjavík next weekend in @tjarnarbio to support our fellow earth creatures, the whales 🐋🐋

@hvalavinir & @last_whaling_station & friends

We are all interconnected. How we treat other human beings, how we treat other animals, how we treat the land and the sea. This othering we keep doing, and this human (not humane) righteousness we have to take what we want and whenever we want it, is killing our hearths and our ecosystem.

In Iceland, lately we have been seeing how important it is to guard our waters, our oceans as well as our streams ( check out @aegiswatch ). All is connected. How we treat each other, what we consume, how we do it, and decisions driven by greed for the few versus the good for the whole leave a mark. For generations to come, for all species 🌍

Hope to see you to celebrate the whales still living out there, and their language, that we will be diving into, as well as enjoying some human musicians who we celebrate too 🎵🎶

HVALASÖNGUR Tjarnarbíó 24.feb. 2024.

Tickets at tix.is. 💙🐋💙

Musical acts include:
@eyfjord
@hogniegilsson   string quartet
@axelflovent
@raggagrondal
@gullibriem
@fmbelfast

Artists and talkers involved:
@andrimagnason
@tommustill
Brenda McCowand and Dr Fred Sharpe
@valgerdur.arna
@herahilmar
@anahita.earth
@ranflygenring
@micahgaren
@kataodds
@irisasmundar
Úlfur Þórarinsson
Owen Hindley
Tomas Burans
@ilmur.og.sjor
@___svava
@erlasverrisdottir

(Photo, mainly for attention, since the algorithm loves faces (especially your own) and supports self facial posting (even with shades..?) more than anything else 😎 Plus we love our streams and the ocean, but the algorithm doesn’t prioritise them as much. Photos by me and @anahita.earth )

On the 21st of August we accompanied @peggy_oki to @svandissvavarsdottir office (Svandis was away so we met an assistant), the office of @gudlaugurthor Minister of Environment (Gudlaugur was away so we met an assistant), to the Prime Minister’s @katrinjakobsd office (they had closed) and the Icelandic Parliament (where we met MP of the Pirate party @halldoramogensen), where she handed them the 161 origami fin whale curtain in support of the fin whales Iceland is now about to kill (and the 161 killed last season) When we left the parliament this whale eye in the sky was there, looking at us. No storm that day in sight. No wind. Just this image in the sky. Let’s all remember this isn’t over yet 🐋 Petitions against whaling in Iceland in my bio @herahilmar

Iceland has just decided, by minister
@svandissvavarsdottir, to start whaling again. The quota this year is 209 fin whales.

Today the ships were allowed to leave harbour, but the elements have spoken and a storm will keep them at bay till Monday.

Fin whales have a distinctive white right jaw and a darker gray left jaw. This is thought to have developed when swimming and feeding mainly with their right side down and left side up. Hence the colouring, helping them camouflage from threats above and below 🌊

Hera Hilmar - 2.9K Likes - Thank you everyone who came to Hvalasöngur last Saturday in @tjarnarbio, and the power team that made this happen 💙🐋💙 Great night with great people!

✨ @hvalavinir @last_whaling_station

Keep talking, sharing, loving, reading, creating to keep nurturing ourselves and our planet. We’ve done so much already. This part of our story is over. Right now nobody holds a permit to hunt whales in Iceland. Lets keep it that way 💙🐋💙

Hera Hilmar - 1.6K Likes - 💧We are hosting an event in Reykjavík next weekend in @tjarnarbio to support our fellow earth creatures, the whales 🐋🐋

@hvalavinir & @last_whaling_station & friends

@eyfjord
