In 2018, two weeks after agreeing to work together/meeting each other, Sam, Jonathan, Jeff, and I went to the @johnnymercerjmf writer’s grove at Goodspeed where this musical was born. Over the next few years, we would encounter pandemics, the pitfalls of writing, and the enormous task of trying to figure out how to tell the story of John Kenley, who lived to be 103, spent their summers in Ohio as John, the Broadway impresario who founded the Kenley Players, and spent their winters in Florida as Jean, an intersex trans sex worker.

This musical has been the most challenging and rewarding project to work on. 6 years after that first meeting, seeing these characters coming to life onstage is one of the greatest gifts I could have ever asked for! I cannot tell you how grateful I am every day to see what these brilliant artists are doing.

Ianne Fields Stewart Instagram - We urgently call on LGBTQIA2S organizations to break up with genocide and publicly support the fight for Palestinian liberation.

Organizations like GLAAD, GLSEN, HRC, PFLAG, The Trevor Project, and others must use their influence to end the ongoing violence. Silence on the death toll in Gaza signals complicity in genocide.

We call on LGBTQIA2S individuals, groups, and leaders to:

Publicly denounce the use of pinkwashing to justify the occupation and genocide of Palestinians;
Immediately boycott, divest from, and sanction the systems and entities that enable the genocide, including severing ties with weapon manufacturers and donors profiteering off genocide;
Call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, to lift the siege and for all food, clean water, supplies, and medical support be allowed into Gaza;
Publicly denounce the increased surveillance the Israeli Occupation Forces use against Palestinian queers;
Call for the release of all political prisoners being held by the Israeli occupation;
Use their platforms to call for an end to all imperialism and occupation, from the river to the sea, from Turtle Island to Palestine.
We stand in solidarity with queer Palestinians facing violence and demand: BREAK UP WITH GENOCIDE.

This includes the ongoing genocides in Gaza, Sudan, Myanmar, Congo, Turtle Island, China, Ethiopia, Iraq, Syria, and others worldwide.

Yesterday was the @theblacktransprayerbook ‘s annual ritual of #TransphobiaIsASin created by @jmaseiii and @ladydanefe. J Mase III is a poet of our souls and minds whose words provide me with comfort, inspiration and grounding year long year after year. @ladydanefe leaves me speechless every day. Her presence. Her sense of care. Her artistry. Her storytelling. To be in her community is a gift that I remain constantly grateful for.

Words are powerful and important to me. Those who can weave them with such precision as Lady Dane and J Mase are gifts and healers to our community. Thank you both for this ritual of care and thank you for the many other ways you care for us throughout the year!

The reason I feel rage is not because I am hurt by their words. My womanhood and personhood is unshakeable. The lion does not fear the ant.

The reason I am angry is because I come from the school of thought that words only last so long. And at some point I want my pound of flesh. But then when I come around you don’t wanna… post up. So…
