Jonathan Lipnicki Instagram - #TBT October 27th made 21 years since this movie came out. I didn't realize that many people had even seen this until I started doing conventions. It was a wild ride and a long shoot. Six weeks in Scotland and almost 5 months ( I believe) in Germany. The shoot was delayed twice. One time it was because I was playing with my dog and his canine tooth got lodged in my lip leaving a gash (freak accident). My dog took it really hard and you could tell for a long time after he felt horrible about it. I remember being scared and going to a German plastic surgeon to get it fixed, I couldn't communicate with any of the doctors or nurses and that made it even scarier. The doctor did a great job, and didn't even leave a scar. The second time was an incident with my flying harness where being up in the air so long at a weird angle strained some muscles in my back and neck. A chiropractor rehabilitated me, and that's why to this day I believe so heavily in it, as you can see by my IG stories. I learned a lot about the endurance of a tough shoot and being the lead in a movie. It was a lot of pressure at a young age but "pressure makes diamonds."The universe won't give you anything you can't handle. 21 years later and i'm still doing this shit. I later found out that if I hiked with a group of friends, Denny wouldn't give up, because he wanted to impress everybody. Now he's nearly 15 and blind so we don't do hikes, but the joy he has in this picture will always live in my head.

Jonathan Lipnicki Instagram - My boy @dennylipnicki has been with me for almost 14 years. Over the course of those years he has been there for me through whatever life threw my way, both good and bad. Over the last year my man lost his vision, has been subjected to more vet visits, poking, prodding, and bs than you can imagine. His eye pressure was so high we thought he was going to need his eyes removed at one point, because the pressure was causing constant headaches for him. Today we are celebrating his eye pressure being the lowest it’s been this whole journey. If only WE could learn to adapt like dogs, they are true warriors and protectors. I have amazing people in my life who had our backs during this journey, you know who you are. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Jonathan Lipnicki Instagram - 20 Years ago today LIKE MIKE came out. It was one of the best filming experiences I've ever had, and this is how it went down: My mom and I were trying to get the rights to this book "When Zachary Beaver Came to Town," to produce as a vehicle for me to act in. Unfortunately a production company beat us to the punch. we then tried getting a meeting for the movie, but I was turned down because I was too young to play the role at the time. The movie ended up running into several delays getting financing and by the time it was put together I was a lot closer to the age of the character. I ended up getting that meeting with the director John Schultz. He is an incredible guy, and we hit it off. He said we could make the movie, but he wanted me to consider taking a small role in his next movie called "Like Mike," so we could get a feel for collaborating with each other. After reading "Like Mike," I signed on to the role of "Murph," and he ended up molding a really great expanded storyline, and beautiful friendship for the characters of "Calvin" and "Murph." We shot "Like Mike," and then the next summer shot "When Zachary Beaver Came to Town." John's background was in indie filmmaking, having his debut feature "BandWagon" premiere at Sundance. He directed a beautiful little film, and I couldn't be more grateful to collaborate on both films with him. Back to Like Mike: Bow, Brenda, Jesse, and I played basketball all day on set, and I will forever have love for all of them. The filming was a new adventure each day, whether it were filming at Staples Center, or a really tough neighborhood where our on set school trailers got tagged with graffiti. When it was time to do press for the movie, Bow and I traveled all around Europe for a summer promoting it. It was pandemonium showing up for these interviews and morning shows. It felt like traveling with the Beatles, but in this case it was my friend, a young rap super star. Like Mike exceeded expectations and came out number 2 in the box office it's opening weekend. Over the years it's built a really fun fan base and I am so proud of what we did.

It was a lot of pressure at a young age but “pressure makes diamonds.”The universe won’t give you anything you can’t handle. 21 years later and i’m still doing this shit. Grateful for everybody who has watched this and I’m proud of what we accomplished. It was a brilliant cast to work with and I’ll never forget my camera dude @michaelsatrazemis 💙💙💙💙

It was one of the best filming experiences I've ever had, and this is how it went down: My mom and I were trying to get the rights to this book "When Zachary Beaver Came to Town," to produce as a vehicle for me to act in. Unfortunately a production company beat us to the punch. we then tried getting a meeting for the movie, but I was turned down because I was too young to play the role at the time. The movie ended up running into several delays getting financing and by the time it was put together I was a lot closer to the age of the character. I ended up getting that meeting with the director John Schultz. He is an incredible guy, and we hit it off. He said we could make the movie, but he wanted me to consider taking a small role in his next movie called "Like Mike," so we could get a feel for collaborating with each other. After reading "Like Mike," I signed on to the role of "Murph," and he ended up molding a really great expanded storyline, and beautiful friendship for the characters of "Calvin" and "Murph." We shot "Like Mike," and then the next summer shot "When Zachary Beaver Came to Town." John's background was in indie filmmaking, having his debut feature "BandWagon" premiere at Sundance. He directed a beautiful little film, and I couldn't be more grateful to collaborate on both films with him. Back to Like Mike: Bow, Brenda, Jesse, and I played basketball all day on set, and I will forever have love for all of them. The filming was a new adventure each day, whether it were filming at Staples Center, or a really tough neighborhood where our on set school trailers got tagged with graffiti. When it was time to do press for the movie, Bow and I traveled all around Europe for a summer promoting it. It was pandemonium showing up for these interviews and morning shows. It felt like traveling with the Beatles, but in this case it was my friend, a young rap super star. Like Mike exceeded expectations and came out number 2 in the box office it's opening weekend. Over the years it's built a really fun fan base and I am so proud of what we did.
