Julia Gillard Instagram - šŸ“šNEW BOOK! šŸ“š
For me, it is a personal and cathartic exercise looking back at THAT speech. But what has meant even more has been gathering the reflections and thoughts from others about then, now, and what next. In October, to mark the 10 year anniversary, I will share it all with you.

Julia Gillard Instagram - As part of International Day of the Girl on Oct 11, I’m reflecting on the advice I would give my younger self (pictured here!)

ā€œThe only way you will know what you are capable of achieving is by trying, and sometimes failing, but then trying again.

As you move through life, not everyone will like you, or what you are trying to achieve, but that’s okay.

Nurture a strong sense of self, and a clear purpose for what you are doing, and doors you never imagined possible will open.ā€

Julia Gillard Instagram - On October 14, Australia has the opportunity to take a step towards a better future for First Nations Peoples. The nation’s leading health organisations have come together to highlight the practical difference a Voice to Parliament could make.

Beyond Blue, the national depression and anxiety initiative which I chair, wholeheartedly supports a Voice to Parliament because it has the potential to improve health outcomes. A Voice also promotes social and emotional wellbeing through self-determination. Because we all do better and we all feel better when we have a say in how we live our lives. #yes23 #alliesforuluru @ulurustatement

No matter how you vote, Beyond Blue is here to support you: follow the link in my bio on how to access support.

Alternatively, you can call 13YARN to talk with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Crisis Supporter.

Julia Gillard Instagram - It was such a pleasure to be in Melbourne earlier this week for the unveiling of this incredible statue of trailblazing unionist Zelda D’Aprano.

Zelda dedicated her life to fighting for gender equality and equal pay – a fight that continues today.

Congratulations to the team at A Monument of One’s Own for your important work to ensure more Australian women are given the recognition they deserve.

Julia Gillard Instagram - Relax everybody - this was not my unofficial campaign launch, despite the hilarious t-shirts! It was a thrill to meet with artists from the @apy_ac_collective yesterday, includingĀ Pitjantjatjara woman Sally Scales, whose work I selected to include on my Christmas Card for 2021. It was a pleasure to see the artists at work in their studio, and hear about the creativity and the culture that drive their works. I wasĀ intrigued to hear about theĀ significantĀ role that art plays in connecting women across generations and empoweringĀ leaders.

Julia Gillard Instagram - ā€œI do think we, as women, can’t just keep self-limiting. We do have to find a way of hitting that tone when it’s justified or when behaviours go uncalled out or unaddressed or only addressed meekly or politely. And one thing I do think about the coming generation of feminists and activists is they’re less worried about being characterised as impolite.ā€

I’m thrilled to now take to the stage over two very special curated evenings, at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on October 4 and Sydney’s Aware Super Theatre on October 5, for NOT NOW, NOT EVER, to reflect on the impact of the speech, but also what comes next in the fight for equality.

The evenings will be hosted by celebrated broadcaster and author Indira Naidoo, alongside an exciting line-up of guests offering their personal perspectives of the speech and the ten years since.

Sign up to the waitlist now to receive priority access to tickets via the link in my bio.

Tickets are available via Ticketek, with pre-sales commencing on Monday 18 July, and all tickets on sale from Monday 25 July.

Julia Gillard Instagram - Today I joined Premier of South Australia @pmalinauskasmp and Education Minister @blair.boyermp to announce I have been appointed the lead the Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education and Care.

As a proud South Australian, I thank the Premier for inviting me to play a role in helping all our children to thrive in the first five years of life through access to high quality early childhood education and care.

Education policy has been a career passion of mine, and I am delighted to now have the opportunity to support the next important steps to improve the early childhood education system in South Australia.

Life chances are defined early and I want every child in SA to be set up for success.

šŸ”øYou can learn more about the Commission via the link in my bio.
Julia Gillard Instagram - I am terribly sad to learn of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

My thoughts are foremost with the Queen’s family and friends at this time. She was dearly loved and the Royal Family will be grieving her loss deeply.

Millions of people around the world will be pausing and reflecting on her loss, and life of service.

The Queen has been a powerful presence for as long as many of us can remember. She was a remarkable role model; responsibility for service thrust on to her as a young woman, and taken up with grace, devotion and dignity during her reign. The Queen will be remembered as an extraordinary monarch who witnessed - and influenced - the trajectory of modern history.

I am in awe of the Queen’s legacy and remember my own personal meetings with her fondly, especially at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth. She was strong and steadfast, but also kind and had an engaging sense of humour. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be mourned but forever remembered.

Julia Gillard Instagram - 1/6- An incredibly fulfilling part of my life post-politics has been my work as Chair of @gpforeducation

For nearly two decades, GPE has been delivering funds and supporting solutions to build strong and resilient education systems so that more children in lower-income countries, especially girls, get the education they need.

After seven years as Board Chair, my time with GPE ends today.

I am reflecting on some of the highlights of that time, and the extraordinary impact of GPE’s work.

Julia Gillard Instagram - I am very grateful to have received my 2nd dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine. My thanks go to the staff & volunteers at the Waldron Health Centre.

I urge everyone to take up opportunities to be vaccinated and to play their part in helping protect the community from COVID-19.
Julia Gillard Instagram - Ten years ago, on this day, I gave my final speech as Prime Minister.

At the time I said, ā€œThe reaction to being the first female prime minister does not explain everything about my prime ministership, nor does it explain nothing about my prime ministership…and it is for the nation to think, in a sophisticated way, about those shades of grey.ā€

"What I am absolutely confident of is it will be easier for the next woman and the woman after that and the woman after that and I'm proud of thatā€.

I still feel that optimism and I am heartened by the fact that the Labor Government which leads our nation is more than fifty per cent women.

Change is possible and is happening, but progress is not linear.

The intense contemporary discourse around women in Parliament House is backward looking, personalised and vindictive. It is time to adopt a new tone and approach. Every women who works in Parliament House in any capacity should feel safe and respected. We know from the past we have not met that standard. Working together to change that, in Parliament House and every workplace around the country, is what should be the focus now.

Ten years on, I still believe in the positive power of politics. It gives an unparalleled opportunity to put your values into action for impactful, lasting change at a national and global level. I was Prime Minister for three years and three days and in that time, we passed 561 pieces of legislation. My government was able to establish the National Disability Insurance Scheme, undertake major education reforms, launch the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Childhood Sexual Abuse, introduce an emissions trading scheme and improve our standing in the world – just to name a few highlights.

I will always cherish the opportunity I had to be Prime Minister, and I remain hopeful I will see other women serve as prime minister in my lifetime.
Julia Gillard Instagram - Today is a day that will give rise to complex and conflicting emotions. For many, it will be a time of deep pain and sorrow. I want to acknowledge that 26 January is scorched into the consciousness of many First Nations people as a day of profound mourning.

As the Chair of Beyond Blue – an organisation with a mission to support everyone in Australia to achieve their best mental health – I believe it’s vital we recognise the grief that this day can evoke. It’s a date connected to the ongoing impacts of colonisation. Dispossession, violence, disempowerment and the fracturing of ancestral and cultural knowledge are a source of historical and ongoing trauma that continues to impact on the social and emotional wellbeing of First Nations people.

As we understand more about our history, more Australians are reflecting on how to engage with 26 January. These conversations may be challenging but they are necessary for us to mature and heal as a nation.

Beyond Blue continues to advocate for action to Close the Gap, to improve social and emotional wellbeing, and to prevent suicide. We support the Uluru Statement from the Heart and a First Nations Voice to Parliament.

While we cannot change our past, we can learn from it. If we accept the truth of our shared history, we can walk together in a spirit of healing and reconciliation towards a brighter future.

If you find this day difficult, support is available. Contact 13YARN or the Beyond Blue Support Service on 1300 22 46 36
Julia Gillard Instagram - 4/6 I am grateful to have stood alongside strong women, educational leaders and many campaigners who are determined to ensure girls get to go to quality schools.

I remain inspired and motivated by youth voices that continue to campaign for inclusive education policies that benefit all children.
Julia Gillard Instagram - I was thrilled to join former Prime Minister of New Zealand @jacindaardern, who has launched the Field Fellowship, supported by women leaders around the world including the former President of Chile Dr Michelle Bachelet.

The first cohort of fellows recently met for the inaugural event to explore building resilience in political life, leading with empathy and why it’s so important in the current political landscape.

With new support networks, tools and ideas, I’m lookingĀ forward to seeing these women thrive in public life.

Julia Gillard Instagram - Congratulations to Sam Mostyn on being sworn in as Australia’s 28th Governor-General today.

Sam is a person of the highest integrity and I know she will do a remarkable job.

I was fortunate enough to sit down with Sam for a chat last December to discuss her incredible career and achievements to date.

You can listen back to that podcast episode at the šŸ”— in the bio or wherever you get your podcasts.
Julia Gillard Instagram - It is with many and mixed emotions that I announce I will be stepping down as Chair of @beyondblueofficial at the end of this year.

I first joined Beyond Blue as a Board Director almost 9 years ago, before becoming Chair in 2017.

Since its creation in 2000, Beyond Blue has been a trusted source for mental health information and support in Australia, and it’s been a true privilege to help ensure that continued.

During my 7 years as Chair, the organisation has continually adapted to the changing world around it and met an ever increasing demand, particularly during the Covid pandemic which created a seismic shift in the way we lived.

Beyond Blue has evolved and grown its free, 24/7 mental health supports and services, and this year we launched Strategy 2023 , which can be described in three simple words: Earlier. Easier. Together.

The strategy, along with Beyond Blue’s new partnership with Lifeline, will allow the organisation to focus on prevention and earlier intervention. Supporting people before mental health issues arise or they reach crisis.

It’s been a thorough pleasure to work with the wonderful and supportive team at Beyond Blue, led superbly by CEO Georgie Harman.

The difficult decision to step down is made somewhat easier by knowing I am passing the baton onto a fantastic successor.

From 2024, Beyond Blue’s Chair will be Sam Mostyn, a highly respected businesswoman and advocate for a multitude of issues including climate change and gender equity.

I’m pleased to be remaining at Beyond Blue as a Patron.

Zelda dedicated her life to fighting for gender equality and equal pay – a fight that continues today.

Congratulations to the team at A Monument of One’s Own for your important work to ensure more Australian women are given the recognition they deserve.

Produced by @michaelcasselgroup, proceeds from the evenings will go towards supporting the @giwlanu @giwlkings, which aim to help create a world in which being a woman is not a barrier to becoming a leader in any field.

Julia Gillard - 8.4K Likes - Ten years ago, on this day, I gave my final speech as Prime Minister.

Julia Gillard - 8.1K Likes - Today is a day that will give rise to complex and conflicting emotions.
