Kal Penn Instagram - After Thai food in Chinatown, @zakirkhan_208 had to listen to my Gujju Real Estate agent character the entirrrrrre way to Greenwood. Welcome back to New York!
Kal Penn Instagram - 20 years ago today, “Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle” released in theaters. The audition process was long & competitive (there was no shortage of talented actors to fill all the roles). I remember excitedly walking into opening night screenings with the H&K team to see how it played, only to find most cinemas empty. The movie tanked at the box office, something most people have forgotten.

A few months later, Harold & Kumar dropped on video and DVD with no real marketing campaign. Fans somehow found it on their own. They had watch parties and shared it with their friends, who went out and bought their own copies. We’ll be forever grateful for this - so much love, and it drove the studio to green light a second and third film.

Happy 20th to the whole H&K family, especially the guys without whom the films would never have been made. @jonhurwitz & @haydenschlossberg101 , who created & wrote the film. Nathan Kahane, Greg Shapiro, Luke Ryan, Joe Drake, & Toby Emmerich who took - what was in those days - a real risk in making it.

I’m a big fan of “Dude, Where’s My Car?”, so to have the talented Danny Leiner direct me in my first lead in a studio comedy added an extra level of incredible to the mix.

Happy 20th also to the A-list cameos and supporting cast who brought goodwill and hilarious absurd performances that still make me laugh. And of course, to my good friend John Cho, who during production tried to fart on me multiple times but also taught me how to drink scotch like a gentleman.

Thanks to the fans for supporting three of these movies! Maybe we’ll get to make a 4th one. 🤞🏽

Kal Penn Instagram - Absolutely heartbreaking to lose Adan Canto. He was so genuine and warm, immensely talented; such a good person who was simultaneously calm and motivating. And funny. He was very, very funny. I’m so lucky to have known him. My heart goes out to Steph, the kids, and the whole family.

Kal Penn Instagram - The majority of @sagaftra members are talented, hard working, trained performers who aren't celebrities you see in headlines. Most members work paycheck to paycheck. Their families depend upon hitting an income of at least $26,470 to qualify for health insurance. Technology is changing the entertainment industry, and the unions are demanding contracts that reflect this reality, including: fair wages & safe working conditions especially for background and stunt performers. Metrics that truthfully analyze residuals (payments) for streaming. Protections and consent with regard to AI. Our friends who run the studios, tech companies, and streaming platforms have made record profits off our acting and writing talent. They unfortunately don't want to negotiate in a serious manner, and have instead forced a strike. It's unfortunate, but we're ready to fight hard for the future of the industry & art we love. 💪🏽

Kal Penn Instagram - Honored to join in the rally with fellow union members & advocates. To our friends in the big media companies, it’s not good enough to just do the performative stuff, posting videos saying hashtag BLM and here’s a rainbow emoji for Pride Month. It’s not good enough to stream a non-union special about Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage every May. The reasonable contract the union is asking for has serious and disproportionate implications for Black writers, Indigenous writers, and Writers of Color. Mini-rooms tend to lock out new talent, especially writers from our communities who are trying to break into the writers room. That’s why the WGA has offered proposals to ensure writers aren’t stuck at the same staffing level. This is a once in a lifetime decision point for our industry when it comes to addressing institutional barriers to entry & advancement. If you really do support fairness, diversity, equity, and a base of talented professional writers who have made your companies hundreds of billions of dollars – do the right thing, and negotiate a fair contract.

Kal Penn - 58.2K Likes - 20 years ago today, “Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle” released in theaters.

Caption : 20 years ago today, “Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle” released in theaters. We’ll be forever grateful for this – so much love, and it drove the studio to green light a second and third film. Kal Penn - 41.7K Likes - Absolutely heartbreaking to lose Adan Canto. He was so genuine and warm, immensely talented; such a good person who was simultaneously calm and motivating. And funny. He was very, very funny. I’m so lucky to have known him. My heart goes out to Steph, the kids, and the whole family.

Kal Penn - 11.6K Likes - Honored to join in the rally with fellow union members & advocates.
