Kate Rockwell Instagram - If you had asked me five years ago what I thought of these photos, Iā€™d have asked why you deepfaked my face onto another womanā€™s body, because I wasnā€™t having kids. If you asked me one year ago what I thought of these photos, I would have burst into tears because after two miscarriages, I thought my body wasnā€™t capable of it. Today, I stare at them over and over because I just canā€™t believe thatā€™s ME. Sometimes I do double takes in windows or the mirror because Iā€™m still in shock that itā€™s real. Iā€™ve never been more grateful or more scared in my whole life. Pregnancy is terrifying and beautiful and weird and so f*cking cool. We actually know so little about how it all works. We can control even less. It is an exercise in faith, whatever that means to you, and letting go. 9 months in, Iā€™m still working on that. But Iā€™ll say this. Iā€™ve never, ever, loved my body more. #37weeks

Kate Rockwell Instagram - Everyone knows by now that our Mean Girls family was a special one. Steph and I met there, but our friendship really started to grow on the day this picture was taken in 2020, when she moved into my building, just two flights down from us. She was so proud to buy her place, all by herself. To say thatā€™s a monster accomplishment is an understatement and she worked her ass off for it. Everyone will tell you what a fearsome dancer she was, and theyā€™re right. But she was fierce offstage too. That girl worked tirelessly to get what she wanted. When the cancer sheā€™d kicked in 2019 came back, I was one of the few people who got to know, because I was right there. I watched her battle for two years, dancing almost all the way. We would sit outside, masks on, having lunch and sheā€™d talk for hours about why I should change my mind about the new Dr Strange movie, or why Lucille Ball was a literal queen. I would drop puzzles off at her door because sheā€™d done all the ones in her house a dozen times over. She walked our dogs three times a day when Spence and I got covid (you should have seen she and I in triple masks, wearing winter gloves, lysoling the leashes, Steph waiting to catch the dogs as they ran to her halfway down the hallway, to make sure she didnā€™t catch it šŸ˜‚). And the entire time she was just so matter-of-fact about being sick. We just kept saying over and over, you did it before, youā€™ll do it again. Steph fought so hard, but cancer is a f-ing monster, and it can break even the strongest spirit. Sheā€™s not in pain anymore, for which Iā€™m grateful. But also Iā€™m angry that her light was put out far too soon. My heart is broken for her parents, who had to do the unthinkable and say goodbye to their little girl. I will miss you every day, think of you every time I walk past your door. Donā€™t worry-it will always be YOUR door. Iā€™m glad we got the short time we had together. I love you baby girl. I hope Darius met you at the gate with a big fat glass of red wine. ā¤ļø

When I reached out to my friend @vanessaliannejewelry , all I had was the purple stone (from my dad, in honor of my grandmother) and the request that the ring fit with my wedding stack so I could wear it every day until she was old enough to have it. She created the most beautiful, sentimental piece for us, and Iā€™m so thrilled. Jewelry has already had significant emotional value for me, and I get teary looking at this piece on my hand, knowing someday it will be on hers. šŸ’œ

Kate Rockwell Instagram - My papa. My Disney dad. The Muny stage will never be the same without you. The biggest hug youā€™ve ever gotten from the most fabulous presence to walk on stage. The poise, the bravado, the tenderness, the ROAR of that voice. I will hear you laugh forever. My favorite story about Ken was when I learned just how IMPORTANT he really was. I didnā€™t know his legend when I first met him in 2014, and some part of me knew I shouldnā€™t look at his resume because I would immediately be intimidated. So I didnā€™t-until opening night, when I read his bio. And SHRIEKED out loud. And RAN to his dressing room, almost in tears, because I finally knew why his voice sent tremors through me. It wasnā€™t Old Deuteronomy, or Ainā€™t Misbehavinā€™, like a good Broadway fanā€¦.but Nightmare Before Christmas, which is (still) my favorite movie of all time. I absolutely lost my mind at him, Iā€™m a terrible fan girl. He smiled that secret Ken smile, laughed a little at me, and on with the show we went. A week later, for closing night, I found my little Oogie on my dressing table, signed by Papa (scroll, itā€™s still on my fridge all these years later). He was a towering presence, literally and figuratively. He was gracious, kind, brilliant, joyful and always in on the joke. I cannot believe youā€™re gone, so fast, and I will miss you every time I hear your voice. Which will be a whole lot. ā¤ļø

When you build a show, you create a new family-people you show your vulnerabilities to, who you sweat and cry and laugh with. Itā€™s doubly special at Broadway Vacation because the SHOW is also about family-working on this piece, I got a husband, two kids, and a crazy cousin alongside the fabulous company I worked with every day for 15 weeks to create this new show. And now, itā€™s time for me to go home and put my energy into my OWN family, which will be growing in just a few weeks. Iā€™m so excited that the spectacular @meganreinking will be taking over the role of Ellen here in Seattle. Sheā€™s been right by my side-literally-for the past few months, supporting me and laughing with me, and sheā€™s going to be fabulous in the show. Everyone will tell you what a fearsome dancer she was, and theyā€™re right. But she was fierce offstage too. That girl worked tirelessly to get what she wanted. When the cancer sheā€™d kicked in 2019 came back, I was one of the few people who got to know, because I was right there. I watched her battle for two years, dancing almost all the way. We would sit outside, masks on, having lunch and sheā€™d talk for hours about why I should change my mind about the new Dr Strange movie, or why Lucille Ball was a literal queen. I would drop puzzles off at her door because sheā€™d done all the ones in her house a dozen times over. She walked our dogs three times a day when Spence and I got covid (you should have seen she and I in triple masks, wearing winter gloves, lysoling the leashes, Steph waiting to catch the dogs as they ran to her halfway down the hallway, to make sure she didnā€™t catch it šŸ˜‚). And the entire time she was just so matter-of-fact about being sick. We just kept saying over and over, you did it before, youā€™ll do it again. Steph fought so hard, but cancer is a f-ing monster, and it can break even the strongest spirit. Sheā€™s not in pain anymore, for which Iā€™m grateful. But also Iā€™m angry that her light was put out far too soon. My heart is broken for her parents, who had to do the unthinkable and say goodbye to their little girl.
