Kerry Butler Instagram - Sooo… I had the immense honor of playing Dolly Parton in the musical reading of her life! My friend @mariasschlatter asked me if I would be in a private reading for Dolly! At first I doubted that I could do it, she is so specific. But I followed my own advice and said yes, and did a deep dive into all things Dolly! Her music is obviously incredible, but beyond that she is such an amazing person. The things she has accomplished on and off stage- many things you don’t even hear about! What a role model!!! Who knows what happens with these readings that I do- this one didn’t even have a director yet. One year I was the lead in 5 new musical readings, I was replaced in all of them- and Xanadu(which I was nominated for a Tony) came back to me! My eye isn’t on the prize, it’s on stretching and growing as an artist, and planting the seeds for a career. During the pandemic I was pretending to be a ghost in Beetlejuice . And now after one of the largest natural disasters I am heading to perform in California. I kept thinking how can I help beyond raising money? And an opportunity fell into my lap (thank you @rosekemanuel ) We don’t think about all the theatre kids who in addition to losing homes, schools places they loved… also lost their theatres! I had this idea, and @segerstromarts was so generous and quick to help! The teachers while facing loss and devastation, have been channeling all their energy into making sure their shows goes on, and making something special for the kids. This is the one thing I know- theatre heals! Music heals us. But taking action CAN HELP our mental health. Let’s turn our heartbreak into action. Most Americans support gun control. Any cameos I do over the next month I will donate the money to @everytown. Kerry Butler Instagram - Working with James Earl Jones was a highlight of my life. He was such a professional. I remember going to see him in his dressing room months into our run, and his script was out on his desk- he was still working on it! Constantly trying to improve and find the truth. Our scenes were never the same! Obviously I was completely in awe and intimidated to be working with such a legend, but he was so kind, down to earth and funny!! He was up for anything. He even dressed up as the Easter Bunny when I threw one of my famous backstage easter egg hunts. In bunny ears and a little tail he shouted with his deep voice ‘Let the hunt begin!’ I wish I had that picture, I couldn’t find it! Thank you James Earl Jones for sharing your incredible light with all of us. Love to his family and friends. Rest in peace.

I remember going to see him in his dressing room months into our run, and his script was out on his desk- he was still working on it! Constantly trying to improve and find the truth. Our scenes were never the same! Obviously I was completely in awe and intimidated to be working with such a legend, but he was so kind, down to earth and funny!! He was up for anything. He even dressed up as the Easter Bunny when I threw one of my famous backstage easter egg hunts. In bunny ears and a little tail he shouted with his deep voice ‘Let the hunt begin!’ I wish I had that picture, I couldn’t find it!
