The dogs have welcomed her to the family in such beautiful ways, and as I had expected. Chester has barely noticed, and when he is with her heā€™s very much ā€˜oh yeah, I already knewā€™. Cashew is cautious with change and so he is exercising his choices and getting to know her at a comfortable pace. And Harry has adopted the protective nature desiring to sit at her side as often as he can. Choice and boundaries are the two key factors for the dogs. Ensuring the routine is predictable and that there are consistencies where the dogs go and when. Within this there are choices the dogs are able to make that keep them feeling safe, respected and calm. They are ready and waiting to teach her many of lifeā€™s beautiful lessons.

For me, my dogs insist on safe yet novel experiences not just for their physical health but for their mental health too. Here Chester is practising his balance across my dam, as he explores the new smells of the morning. The ducks, the roos, the evening fox droppings are all letters to him about his home and who he shares it with. Try to forget about the dog park or the walk around the block but expand your routine as you expand your mind as well as your dogs mind. Visit new places, mix things up, change direction here and there and always keep your dog safe. Safety from their point of view that is, not just ours. Laura Vissaritis Instagram - Many have asked me how I manage to keep Chester as number 1, whilst also giving my all to a newbornā€¦ I thought long and hard about that today, because Iā€™ll admit it, itā€™s tough! I am sleep deprived, I feel like a completely different person sometimes, and itā€™s hard work having to share your body, your heart, your mind and your attention. Each day I feel a combination of triumph, failure and anxiety wondering if Iā€™m getting it right. But then, thereā€™s love - an overwhelming feeling of commitment, adoration, care and respect that I feel for Chester, Rose, and all my family. Deep love somehow finds room to give more than you ever thought you had to give. I treat Chester and Rose like theyā€™re twins (if youā€™re a parent to twins/multiple, you are a hero to me!) Somehow everyone gets the attention and care they deserve and need and I believe that is reason why Rose has integrated so seamlessly into this furry family. She has entered a family of deep love. So if youā€™re ever worried that your fur child may not get the attention and love they need when you have a baby, remember that there is an innate reserve within you of deep and true love that is ready to nurture everyone in your care. It takes more than everything you think you have, but when you find it, nobody gets left behind.
Laura Vissaritis Instagram - When youā€™re told to ignore your dog when you come home, youā€™re not really reinforcing anything good. I always acknowledge my dogs with absolute calm adoration and within 30 seconds we all get it out of our system. It is natural and normal to be happy at your loved oneā€™s return home. Imagine how our partners would feel if we ignored them when we got home because we didnā€™t want them to feel anxious when we are away. There is no evidence that ignoring your dog helps with separation anxiety. There are other ways we help with that. The only thing Iā€™m conscious of is jumping up with Harry, so sometimes Iā€™ll drop food on the floor to redirect him. One of the best parts of my day is coming home, and how lucky I am that my dogs feel the same way.

Treat your animals as if they are a loved elderly person: Keep indoors with cooling on Don't go for walks when the sun is up Don't travel, stay home No car rides Limit outside time to dawn and dusk Keep hydrated Keep calm and allow to rest Regularly keep an eye on them and watch for signs of discomfort or heat exhaustion. Seek vet assistance immediately if you are concerned. Feel free to add to this list.

When your dog is looking at you or moving towards you, encourage them to keep coming and praise them. Reinforce with what they value in.e praise treats play all good things 3. Release them back to their own thing 4. Repeat 5. Finish on a high! * Remember training only happens when you have an existing relationship of mutual trust and respect. And that starts in the home. Always start training under low distraction, and slowly work your way up to more. Your dog will let you know when and if theyā€™re ready for the next stage. Set them up for success.

Laura Vissaritis Instagram - A dog park/beach might actually be a lazy manā€™s choiceā€¦ Language is one of the most advanced tools we have as humans. But our language is for humans, by humans, and from humans. Dogs have their own extraordinary and sophisticated language. If we choose to bring them into our lives, then it is our responsibility to learn and understand how they talk. It is very different to how we talk. Iā€™m sitting opposite a dog park right now, and all I can hear is human voices yelling out english sentences, half heartedly directed at their dogs. Not one word is positive, they are all directive and demanding words. There is no attempt to understand what the dog is saying back. Naturally the dog is not listening, because the words mean nothing to him. - Try being silent and observe your dog. - Dog parks are not human social venues. - Donā€™t go to a park if you and your dog lose your relationship at the entry gate. - Move and act as your dogā€™s advocate at all times - Prevent incidents, rather than reacting to them! That may mean you donā€™t go to dog parks. Find a better way to entertain your best friend. The same dog park every day may actually be a bit lazy on your end.

Deep love somehow finds room to give more than you ever thought you had to give. I treat Chester and Rose like theyā€™re twins (if youā€™re a parent to twins/multiple, you are a hero to me!) Somehow everyone gets the attention and care they deserve and need and I believe that is reason why Rose has integrated so seamlessly into this furry family. She has entered a family of deep love. So if youā€™re ever worried that your fur child may not get the attention and love they need when you have a baby, remember that there is an innate reserve within you of deep and true love that is ready to nurture everyone in your care. It takes more than everything you think you have, but when you find it, nobody gets left behind.

I always acknowledge my dogs with absolute calm adoration and within 30 seconds we all get it out of our system. It is natural and normal to be happy at your loved oneā€™s return home. Imagine how our partners would feel if we ignored them when we got home because we didnā€™t want them to feel anxious when we are away. There is no evidence that ignoring your dog helps with separation anxiety. There are other ways we help with that. The only thing Iā€™m conscious of is jumping up with Harry, so sometimes Iā€™ll drop food on the floor to redirect him. One of the best parts of my day is coming home, and how lucky I am that my dogs feel the same way.

I always acknowledge my dogs with absolute calm adoration and within 30 seconds we all get it out of our system. It is natural and normal to be happy at your loved oneā€™s return home. Imagine how our partners would feel if we ignored them when we got home because we didnā€™t want them to feel anxious when we are away. There is no evidence that ignoring your dog helps with separation anxiety. There are other ways we help with that. The only thing Iā€™m conscious of is jumping up with Harry, so sometimes Iā€™ll drop food on the floor to redirect him. One of the best parts of my day is coming home, and how lucky I am that my dogs feel the same way.
