Lee Hsien Loong Instagram - Last November, I announced my intention to step down as Prime Minister this year. I will relinquish my role as Prime Minister on 15 May 2024 and DPM @lawrencewongst will be sworn in as the next Prime Minister on the same day. For any country, a leadership transition is a significant moment. Lawrence and the 4G team have worked hard to gain the people’s trust, notably during the pandemic. Through the Forward Singapore exercise, they have worked with many Singaporeans to refresh our social compact and develop the national agenda for a new generation. The 4G team are committed to keeping Singapore working well and moving ahead. These will always be top priorities for the government. Lee Hsien Loong Instagram - Was looking forward to meeting @apple CEO Tim Cook today but unfortunately I’ve caught a flu bug and had to cry off (I tested negative for COVID-19 and am working from home, but am otherwise fine). Apple is expanding their campus in Ang Mo Kio, which will create more jobs and spur innovation. Apple opened its first facility here over 40 years ago, manufacturing the Apple II series computers. I visited it in 1985, and later officiated the opening of their new building in 1988. Glad that Singapore is now a regional hub for Apple, and home to three of their retail stores. Lee Hsien Loong Instagram - Thanked His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein and the Jordanian government for facilitating Singapore’s humanitarian assistance for Gaza. @thersaf, at the invitation of the Jordanian government, will air drop humanitarian aid supplies to Gaza together with the Royal Jordanian Air Force. The RSAF is deploying a Multi-Role Tanker Transport and a Hercules C-130 to Jordan to conduct the mission. Singapore will do what it can to help the civilians in Gaza. Given the dire humanitarian situation, the international community should work together to alleviate the suffering and save as many innocent lives as possible. We believe that a negotiated two-state solution, consistent with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, is the only viable path to a comprehensive, just and durable peace between Israelis and the Palestinians. I visited the site this morning, and spoke to the owner, and some of the affected residents who lived above the coffeeshop. The coffeeshop was badly damaged, but thankfully no one was seriously injured. Luckily, the fire was put out quickly by the SCDF, and did not spread to the wet market and food centre next to it. Also luckily, the owner had fire insurance. This incident reminds us of the importance of having insurance too for our homes (even after the mandatory period), so that if we are caught in similar circumstances, we will still have some protection and help. And if you own a wet market or cooked food stall, please protect it, and yourself, with fire insurance too! My thanks to @myscdf and @singaporepoliceforce for putting out the fire and evacuating our residents safely, as well as the grassroots leaders, @singaporehdb and @amktowncouncil who are looking after the affected residents and business owners. – LHL

Lee Hsien Loong Instagram - A fire broke out at the coffeeshop at Block 407 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 at around 2:40am today. I visited the site this morning, and spoke to the owner, and some of the affected residents who lived above the coffeeshop. The coffeeshop was badly damaged, but thankfully no one was seriously injured. Luckily, the fire was put out quickly by the SCDF, and did not spread to the wet market and food centre next to it. Also luckily, the owner had fire insurance. We have held weekly Cabinet meetings year in, year out – even during the pandemic, where we had to shift to teleconferencing. These meetings are a crucial platform for discussing national issues, major policies, and matters that affect all our lives. It has been my privilege to lead my Cabinet team for the past 20 years. In Cabinet, the Prime Minister is “primus inter pares” – not the boss with his subordinates, but the first among equals, all deliberating together to find the best solutions for Singapore. AI and deepfake technology are becoming better by the day. On top of mimicking my voice and layering the fake audio over actual footage of me making last year’s National Day Message, scammers even synced my mouth movements with the audio. This is extremely worrying: people watching the video may be fooled into thinking that I really said those words. Please remember, if something sounds too good to be true, do proceed with caution. If you see or receive scam ads of me or any other Singapore public office holder promoting an investment product, please do not believe them. You can also report them via the government’s ScamShield Bot on WhatsApp at go.gov.sg/scamshield-bot I thank the many of you who alerted me to this latest scam. Many of you shared stories of how your lives have improved from various government policies, and the immense pride you feel as Singaporeans. Nation-building is not an easy task, and we would not have been able to achieve so much over the decades without your loyal support. I am very moved to hear how many of you are giving back to your community, and contributing to our society in your own ways. I received quite a few notes from non-Singaporeans too, who are living or working here, in some cases for many years. I am glad you have found this a safe, happy country to live in, where you can find good jobs, bring up your families safely, and contribute to our economy and society. This festival is associated with the story of the patriotic Chinese poet Qu Yuan, who threw himself into the Mi Luo River on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month when he learnt that his country had fallen to the enemy. It was said that villagers and fishermen tossed rice dumplings into the river to prevent the fishes from eating Qu Yuan’s body. Nowadays, we commemorate this traditional festival with thrilling dragon boat races and delicious rice dumplings. In Singapore, different dialect and cultural groups offer their own version of rice dumplings, reflecting our unique multiculturalism. There are also healthier choices with less sodium and fat. The latest report by @nea_sg’s Meteorological Service Singapore found 2023 to be our fourth warmest year on record, with temperatures hitting 37°C on May 13 in Ang Mo Kio. Our local findings echo a recent UN report, which found that 2023 was the warmest year on record for the world. 2024 is projected to be even warmer! Climate change is palpably warming the earth and creating extreme weather patterns. The government is committed to sustainability. We are enhancing coastal protection, and funding research on heat resilience. We aim to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. The transition will require careful long term planning, enormous resources, and sustained effort from all. But we have accomplished difficult tasks before, and for our survival we must embark on this now. We must work together to safeguard our future. Small steps make a big difference – reducing waste, switching to energy-efficient devices, and buying local produce. Start tonight by turning off all non-essential lights during #EarthHour at 8:30pm. I visited the site this morning, and spoke to the owner, and some of the affected residents who lived above the coffeeshop. The coffeeshop was badly damaged, but thankfully no one was seriously injured. Luckily, the fire was put out quickly by the SCDF, and did not spread to the wet market and food centre next to it. Also luckily, the owner had fire insurance. This incident reminds us of the importance of having insurance too for our homes (even after the mandatory period), so that if we are caught in similar circumstances, we will still have some protection and help. And if you own a wet market or cooked food stall, please protect it, and yourself, with fire insurance too! This festival is associated with the story of the patriotic Chinese poet Qu Yuan, who threw himself into the Mi Luo River on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month when he learnt that his country had fallen to the enemy. The latest report by @nea_sg’s Meteorological Service Singapore found 2023 to be our fourth warmest year on record, with temperatures hitting 37°C on May 13 in Ang Mo Kio. Our local findings echo a recent UN report, which found that 2023 was the warmest year on record for the world. 2024 is projected to be even warmer! Climate change is palpably warming the earth and creating extreme weather patterns. The government is committed to sustainability. We are enhancing coastal protection, and funding research on heat resilience. We aim to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. The transition will require careful long term planning, enormous resources, and sustained effort from all. But we have accomplished difficult tasks before, and for our survival we must embark on this now. We must work together to safeguard our future. Small steps make a big difference – reducing waste, switching to energy-efficient devices, and buying local produce. Start tonight by turning off all non-essential lights during #EarthHour at 8:30pm.
