Lino Facioli Instagram - Merry Christmas everyone!! šŸŽ„ Just wanted to say a massive thank you to @bhutananimalrescue . I’ve had the privilege of living at the rescue centre for the past month, and I cannot exaggerate how fantastic a place this is. They are one of the few animal rescue centres in Bhutan, and they are doing an AMAZING job looking after hundreds of sick, wounded and vulnerable animals of all shapes and sizes. However they are a nonprofit organisation, and without support they cannot keep on going. So if you are thinking of donating to a charity this Christmas, please keep them in mind; it doesn’t mater how much you give, every penny can help change the life of an animal! Okay preaching over, go enjoy the day with family and friends and have a good time :)

Lino Facioli Instagram - While I have no way of experiencing what people of colour have to battle with every single day, and while I know that I am undoubtedly ignorant about many of the complexities and nuances of racism, I cannot possibly stay silent at a time like this.

I know that writing a little post on social media is the very least I could be doing, but that should not be an excuse not to write it. So here it is-

Everyone likes to think they are correct in their actions, and most people (I hope) would like to think of themselves as just and righteous, and not as racist bigots.

However simply saying something as silly as ā€˜I’m colour blind’, or ā€˜I don’t believe in racism’ or anything else of that nature, isn’t helpful, it’s damaging: it dismisses and denies the existence of very real underlying problems without actually doing anything to solve them.

These problems must be addressed comprehensively.
If I am not ready to look inwards and admit to my unconscious biases, or contemplate the times I may have unwittingly said or done things which made someone of colour feel uncomfortable, if I am not ready to reflect on awkward truths, then I cannot call myself anti racist.

I am the inheritor of a racist system, that works through me even if I am not conscious of it. In fact it works through me all the more if I am unconscious of it.

Fighting racism and bigotry shouldn’t be the responsibility of people of colour, it is everyone’s duty, especially those in privileged positions - we may not be responsible for the inequalities of the society we have inherited, however we are responsible for how we deal with them.
Therefore I choose to educate myself, I choose to be okay with asking myself uncomfortable questions, I choose to use my voice as an instrument for change; this is the least I can do.
On that note I’ve put a link on my bio for relevant petitions, charities and fundraisers and such for people to get involved.

Also, I know much of what I have said is obvious to a lot of people (so I apologise to those), but clearly that isn’t the case for everyone.

Finally, if you’ve read this far, thank you, and if you have any related way I might be able to help, please suggest it.

Lino Facioli Instagram - šŸ”šŸŸšŸ¦‘ photos of me dressed as a fish in a suit- taken on film by @workl3ns at last week’s climatestrike.
The idea behind this was that the oceans are being destroyed and no one in power is doing anything effective about it; So the fish decided to send their own representative. ————————————
Plastic is destroying our oceans: killing wildlife, poisoning eco systems and building it’s way up the food chain right back to us human beings. Cutting down on plastic bags and straws is great, but we’ve still got a long, long way to go and we’ve got to do it fast.
The alternatives are out there, and change is possible, but we have to continue to pressure our governments to action, and continue to raise awareness to the point where it becomes economically inviable for companies to keep on pushing single use plastic packaging and products onto the market.
The time to act is now. We CAN make a difference!

Lino Facioli Instagram - In 1948, my 6 year old grandfather left a war torn Austria for Brazil. 64 years later he finally returned. But of course it wasn't the same city, houses had risen from the rubble, and the blasts of bombs were nowhere to be heard. I was 11 at the time but I think I understood the weight of that trip. It felt like something had clicked into place, like a burden that I had not even been previously aware of, but that weighed down all the same was lifted off my shoulders. However there was one stone that was left unturned, we never found the house he grew up in. Six years passed until I got the chance to go back to Vienna, this time I was the only member of the family on the trip, and I was determined that I would find the old apartment. With a lot of luck and a lot of help from my german teacher we managed to find the address in some old archives. Long story short, after getting drenched in rain and fined €130 for using the wrong kind of ticket on the wrong kind of tram, I finally found it and managed to take a picture to send back home. Thank you to everyone who made that journey possible.

Lino Facioli - 16.9K Likes - Merry Christmas everyone!! šŸŽ„ Just wanted to say a massive thank you to @bhutananimalrescue .

Lino Facioli - 6.2K Likes - While I have no way of experiencing what people of colour have to battle with every single day, and while I know that I am undoubtedly ignorant about many of the complexities and nuances of racism, I cannot possibly stay silent at a time like this.

Fighting racism and bigotry shouldn’t be the responsibility of people of colour, it is everyone’s duty, especially those in privileged positions – we may not be responsible for the inequalities of the society we have inherited, however we are responsible for how we deal with them.

Lino Facioli - 3.2K Likes - In 1948, my 6 year old grandfather left a war torn Austria for Brazil.
