Marcia Fudge Instagram - In the midst of a tough housing market, the need has never been greater for our assistance. But we are working to meet the challenge. Here are some significant steps we’ve taken thus far to serve those who need our help most. ⬇️ 1️⃣ HUD has housed people through 120,000 new incremental vouchers in a three-year period, a 20-year record. 2️⃣ The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) has cut costs for homeowners and brought first-time homebuyers into the fold, achieving the first-time homebuyer rate at the highest it has been in over two decades. This year alone, FHA served more than 625,000 first time homebuyers. By percentage and volume, FHA served 3x as many Black borrowers and 2x as many Hispanic borrowers as our counterparts. 3️⃣ HUD has addressed the legacies of racial discrimination in housing. 4️⃣ New investments will build for the future, ensuring communities are resilient to the effects of the climate crisis, particularly for Black, Indigenous, and low-income residents of color, which are often hit the hardest. 5️⃣ Ginnie Mae supported a record high of over $2.5 trillion in current government lending, by providing liquidity in the housing finance system and facilitating the flow of more investment capital into US housing markets.

Marcia Fudge Instagram - As a part of @POTUS's historic investment in climate resiliency, HUD is building a more equitable and sustainable housing system. Through the Green and Resilient Retrofit Program, today HUD announced $18 million in awards to make upgrades to multifamily housing properties, like adding solar panels, updating heating and cooling, and replacing windows—with more funding to come in 2023 and 2024. No one should be left behind in the transition to a more sustainable nation.

Take a look at just a few of the ways we are delivering for Black people in this nation under my leadership. ⤵️ 1️⃣ HUD has removed some systemic barriers to homeownership and supported approximately a quarter of a million Black homeowners buy a home with FHA mortgages in the last 3 years. 2️⃣ HUD helped over 160,000 Black homeowners avoid foreclosure and stay in their homes since the beginning of the pandemic. 3️⃣ HUD has expanded access to housing counseling to help Black families and individuals unlock the wealth building potential of homeownership. 4️⃣ HUD has invested more than $10 million in Historically Black Colleges and Universities. 5️⃣ HUD has expanded rental assistance and increased the number of Housing Choice Vouchers to people with low incomes. 6️⃣ HUD is providing second chances in HUD-assisted housing for people who have been impacted by prior justice system involvement. 7️⃣ From rooting out appraisal bias to addressing disparities in housing needs, HUD remains dedicated to combating racial discrimination in housing.
