Nadia Whittome Instagram - All 51 men, including her husband, were found guilty of raping Gisèle Pelicot in her home over nine years.

Her courage in making the case public and throughout this ordeal has been extraordinary.

“Shame has to switch sides”. In France, here, and right across the globe.

Nadia Whittome Instagram - Rishi Sunak wants to bring back national service for 18-year-olds.

What young people need:

✅ Affordable housing
✅ Decent pay
✅ High quality education that doesn’t come with massive debt
✅ Action on the climate crisis

What they don’t need:

❌ To be forced to join the army or do unpaid work, on top of all their other responsibilities.

Nadia Whittome Instagram - I don’t mean “not hurting fascists’ feelings”. When we use classist/ableist tropes, it:

a) misdiagnoses the problem (and therefore makes it harder to combat and lets the culprits off the hook)
b) hurts other working class and/or disabled people, which undermines building solidarity in a mass movement against fascism.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - People on benefits didn’t crash the economy. The Tories did.

It’s not “sick note culture” that stops people from working. It’s a mental health crisis and the state of the NHS, which the Tories left to crumble.

Stop punishing disabled people for your own failures, @rishisunakmp.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Homelessness: up.

NHS waiting lists: soaring.

Public services: destroyed.

Child poverty: at record levels.

Wages: lower than in 2008.

Everyone: fed up with this disastrous Tory government.

On 4th July, we finally have a chance to get rid of them. Bring it on.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Solidarity with all Muslims, migrants, refugees and people of colour affected by the current violence.

We must not only defeat these far right thugs, but the ideology that drives them. We must combat racism, Islamophobia and anti-migrant hatred wherever they rear their head.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Bosses who refuse to pay their workers a fair wage.

Landlords who charge extortionate rents.

The politicians who cut funding for our schools, local councils and social housing.

There’s nothing they love more than to hear people blame immigrants, Muslims and people of colour.

Nadia Whittome Instagram - For months, Western governments “warned” Netanyahu against invading Rafah but gave him no real reason to listen.

As the latest assault on Rafah begins, we don’t need any more empty words.

There’s no excuse for continuing to arm the IDF. We need an arms embargo now.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - The PIP assessment is already gruelling and it often isn’t awarded to those who need it.

Now, new eligibility rules will shut off vital support from up to 1.2 million disabled people.

I’m urging the government to drop this policy.

#PoliticsLive
Nadia Whittome Instagram - The images from Rafah are atrocious. The horrors unleashed on innocent civilians are beyond comprehension.

Three days ago, the ICJ ordered Netanyahu to stop the offensive. He refused.

Such blatant disregard for international law cannot be tolerated. We need an arms embargo now.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - This #LesbianVisibilityDay, I wish all lesbians:

- A ban on conversion therapy
- Equal access to IVF
- An end to hate crime and sexual harassment
- Protection and dignity for lesbian refugees
- Respect and inclusion in the workplace, in sport and all areas of life

Of all demographics, lesbians and bi women are the most supportive of trans people: 84% have a positive view of the trans community.

Lesbian Visibility Day won’t be hijacked by those trying to divide the LGBT community. Our rights aren’t a zero-sum game.

Emmanuel House is an independent charity that supports people who are homeless, rough sleeping, in crisis, or at risk of homelessness in Nottingham.

The Nottingham Climate Assembly is an independent community-based initiative, which believes in working collaboratively to involve local residents across Nottinghamshire in activities responding to the climate emergency.

ACNA is a community space for members of the Afro-Caribbean community in Nottingham to gather for group activities, social support and access to public information.

I’m proud to support these initiatives and the incredible work they do.

Nadia Whittome Instagram - Two years ago, the IDF shot dead Shireen Abu Akleh in her press vest and later denied it, before beating mourners at her funeral.

When I met with Shireen’s family, they demanded accountability and justice. Instead, Israel has since killed tens of thousands more Palestinians.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Statement from the Nottingham MPs about the far-right protest being planned in Nottingham on Saturday:

We are aware that a protest is being organised in Nottingham this Saturday which is being circulated among far right groups. We have seen similar events in other parts of the country used to stir up hatred and division in communities.

Nottingham is united in its horror at the killing of children in Southport. Far right groups using this attack to further their own racist agenda is an insult to the victims and their families.

These people do not speak for our diverse city, where people from all different backgrounds live together in harmony. Anyone attempting to disrupt this is not welcome here.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Any one of us might need disability benefits at any point in our lives.

We all deserve a well-funded welfare system that enables us to live full and independent lives, no matter what unexpected challenges we may face.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Under international law, the UK has a responsibility to ensure it’s not complicit in war crimes.

With the ICC seeking an arrest warrant for Netanyahu, there can be no more turning a blind eye.

We must demand a ceasefire and stop arming the Israeli government now.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Jenrick built his image on performative cruelty like painting over cartoon murals at a children’s asylum centre.

This sort of dehumanisation of refugees, people of colour and Muslims laid the ground work for far-right riots, which are now used as an opportunity to boost a Tory leadership bid.

Nadia Whittome Instagram - By the end of July, we might have won a Labour government and the Euros. Hyped 🔥
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Nottingham has a proud history of solidarity. We look after each other and we don’t fall for con artists playing divide and rule.

So, in our hundreds, we showed Kelly Jay Keen’s small anti-trans march that their views are not welcome on our streets.

They’re lying about standing up for women: all they’re advancing is patriarchal gender roles and the growth of the far right. Their movement is a danger to trans people and all women.

Thank you to @nottinghamagainsttransphobia and to every single person who came, drowning out their hatred with our solidarity.

Nadia Whittome Instagram - More than 34,000 Palestinians killed.

85% of Gaza’s population displaced.

Forced starvation.

Mass graves discovered in destroyed hospitals.

How many more atrocities will it take for our government to stop enabling genocide?

End arms sales to the IDF, now.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - I remain gravely concerned by today’s welfare announcement, to put it mildly.

Cutting social security for disabled people will only deepen poverty and inequality.

This wasn’t in our manifesto and it isn’t what people voted for when they elected a Labour government.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - 31 years on from his murder, we remember Stephen Lawrence and his family’s brave struggle for justice.

Last year’s damning Casey Review found that the Met was still institutionally racist and failing victims.

An apology is not enough. Stephen’s case must be reopened.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Solidarity is the antidote to the far-right’s poison.

We came together in our thousands and outnumbered them across the country.

This isn’t job done but, in a terrifying week for our communities, last night gave me hope. The fascists will be defeated ✊🏽

Nadia Whittome Instagram - Ireland, Norway and Spain have announced that they recognise the state of Palestine.

They join over 140 other countries which have done so already.

It’s long overdue for the UK to stand with the Palestinian people and do the same, as Parliament voted to do in 2014.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Right-wing MPs keep claiming people are seeking asylum in the UK “illegally”, but what’s the truth?
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Rail privatisation has been a complete failure.

Delays and cancellations have become the new normal, and passengers are paying through the nose as shareholders line their pockets.

Labour will nationalise our entire train network within five years. 💯

Nadia Whittome Instagram - Israel has broken the ceasefire, killing 400 Palestinians in Gaza and injuring over 500.

The death toll and humanitarian catastrophe is worsening by the hour.

The UK must finally demand accountability for Israel’s war crimes, strengthen sanctions and ban all arms sales.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - The rain couldn’t dampen spirits at Nottingham’s first ever Trans Pride - a beautiful display of trans joy and solidarity 🏳️‍⚧️

Nadia Whittome Instagram - Under the Tories, there are:

- Record levels of child poverty
- Record numbers of children growing up homeless
- More than 1 million children destitute

I assure Rishi Sunak, Sky TV is the least of their worries.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Elon Musk is dismantling USAID, which funds the UN’s World Food Programme, refugee aid, women’s health in conflict zones, clean water, HIV treatments, energy security, and anti-corruption work.

Why is the richest man in the world so invested in making everyone else poorer?
Nadia Whittome Instagram - “Swarms”
“Invasion”
“Hurricane”

For years, rightwing politicians and sections of the media have scapegoated migrants and asylum seekers, demonised Muslims, and emboldened racists.

Far-right violence doesn’t come out of nowhere. Those who stir up hate must be held accountable.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Every year since 2013, the Tories have cut Nottingham City Council’s funding by an average of £100 million.

Last week it had to issue a section 114 notice after overspending by £23 million on essential services like social care.

I asked Michael Gove to do the maths.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Thank you to Matthew from Mapperley for this wonderful contribution to my campaign ❤️🌹

Matthew can’t vote yet, but if you can, don’t forget to register by 18 June at gov.uk/register-to-vote

Nadia Whittome Instagram - Trump’s win is a warning: if people don’t feel real change, the populist right gains.

While I welcome my party’s first Budget, I worry it doesn’t go far enough.

Let’s build on the good work our government has started and tackle Britain’s obscene inequality head on.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Many young trans people and their families are hugely concerned about the puberty blockers ban.

Criticisms of the Cass review aside, this policy goes far beyond its recommendations.

At #PMQs, I asked the government to meet with those affected to understand its impact.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - No one should be punished for getting ill.

Yet in the UK, a third of workers are stuck with Statutory Sick Pay so low it doesn’t cover basic bills. Worse still, 1.3 million get no sick pay at all.

It’s time to raise Statutory Sick Pay - and make it available for everyone.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Israel, now backed by Trump, has broken the ceasefire with total impunity.

We have a choice in the UK: uphold the principles of international law or keep fuelling a politics of tyranny.

#PoliticsLive.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - 🚨 Rents have gone up by a record 9.2% in a year - far more than wages.

A shocking 40% of private renters who move do it because they’re forced to by a rent hike or eviction.

A stable place to live shouldn’t be a luxury. Ban no-fault evictions now and bring in rent controls.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - The public shouldn’t foot the bill for private water companies’ greed and failures, especially when there’s no alternative to relying on privatised water.

Water privatisation has failed, and this government has a chance to end this scam by renationalising it.

No more bailouts.

Nadia Whittome Instagram - What’s the point in refusing citizenship to refugees who have ‘made a dangerous journey’?

What’s the point in publishing footage of people being deported?

I’m sorry to say that this is simply a continuation of the performative cruelty we saw from the Conservatives.

The new Home Office guidance means that some refugees will never be allowed to feel secure and safe in their homes.

These people are already here. We’ve agreed they are refugees. Why refuse them citizenship simply because they took the only route that was available to them?

In an increasingly volatile world, taking a leaf from the far-right playbook will never end well - for any of us.

Our party and the British public - 75% of whom believe Britain should offer refuge to those fleeing war and persecution - are better than this.

Nadia Whittome Instagram - Rape has been effectively decriminalised.

Survivors are being put through a horrific ordeal for years, with little hope of justice being served, and Rishi Sunak refuses to even acknowledge the problem.

I was heckled when I raised this at #PMQs. Here’s what’s really happening:

Just 2.6% of rapes recorded in 2023 resulted in a charge that same year. Even fewer of these will end in conviction.

The average time between reporting and completion in court is 2 years, with many victims waiting far longer. The mental toll that takes on survivors is enormous.

No wonder 5 in 6 women who are raped don’t report it. Of those who do, 62% drop out of their cases - up from 44% in 2016. With a record number of cases currently waiting to go to court, the situation is only getting worse.

Sunak talks about tougher sentences, ignoring the fact that the vast majority of rapists never face justice at all.

The Tories are putting survivors through a living hell and allowing perpetrators to walk free.

They should be ashamed of themselves.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Since the Tories promised to ban no-fault evictions, 85,000 households have faced the risk of homelessness as a result of one.

Five years on, the ban has been delayed indefinitely.

In unrelated news, 1 in 5 Tory MPs, including at least seven cabinet ministers, are landlords.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - It’s been a year since the shocking attacks in our city that cruelly claimed the lives of Ian Coates, Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Barnaby Webber.

It was moving to join local leaders at St Peter’s church today remembering them and to meet one of those injured that day.

Their families are still fighting for answers about missed opportunities that might have prevented their loved ones’ killings.

I’ve called on the government to convene an independent inquiry.

Nadia Whittome Instagram - Our government’s suspension of 30 arms export licences to Israel is welcome, as is the recognition that they could facilitate serious violations of humanitarian laws.

But we must go further and ramp up the pressure for a ceasefire by ending all arms sales to Israel.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Congratulations to @ClaireWard4EM, our very first East Midlands Mayor!

Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire voted for change: for affordable homes, green jobs, high quality public transport and against the Tories’ divisive agenda.

Well done to everyone who campaigned for this result.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - Over one million people sheltering in Rafah have nowhere left to go.

Aid routes have been cut. Medical evacuations have been stopped.

It’s clear our government’s strategy of “thoughts and prayers” isn’t working. What will it take for them to stop enabling these war crimes?
Nadia Whittome Instagram - It was great to meet my constituent @albertsalimov03 who came to Parliament to speak to me about Gaza.

Since October, I’ve been contacted by thousands of people appalled by Netanyahu’s war crimes and our government’s complicity.

We must keep demanding an immediate ceasefire.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - On Tuesday I spoke at a @palestinesolidarityuk rally in front of 10 Downing Street.

My message: we must not stand by and watch genocide unfold in real time.

Keep protesting. Keep putting pressure on our government. Keep demanding a ceasefire now and an end to the illegal occupation. 🇵🇸
Nadia Whittome Instagram - I set out my objections to briefed welfare cuts in a letter to the government last week. Many colleagues have done the same.

None of us became Labour MPs to make the poor poorer. I sincerely hope tomorrow’s Green Paper reflects that.

Nadia Whittome Instagram - Today marks 500 days since the start of the brutal civil war in Sudan.

More than 10 million people have been displaced and 25 million face acute hunger.

The world cannot look away. We need to increase aid and intensify diplomatic efforts to end the violence and suffering.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - As someone with a PTSD diagnosis, I know how debilitating mental health conditions can be.

The DWP Secretary says the benefits system shouldn’t be paying people to deal with the “ordinary difficulties of life”.

If he thinks that’s not trivialising mental illness, what is it?

Taking away the little financial support some people with mental illnesses get won’t help them recover.

There are 1.9 million people waiting for mental health treatment. Rather than attacking disabled people, the government must focus on addressing the crisis in the NHS.
Nadia Whittome Instagram - For @leftlionmagazine, I wrote about the Tories’ attacks on benefit claimants.

Shaming people who are disabled or unwell won’t magically make them fit to work. Neither will plunging them into destitution.

We need a welfare system that treats people with dignity.

This #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, we don’t need platitudes.

People struggling with mental illness need:

- Well funded NHS services
- A welfare system that doesn’t dehumanise them
- An end to the stigma which the Tory government is perpetuating.

Nadia Whittome Instagram - There are no legal routes to the UK for refugees from Gaza. Those who do arrive here could be deported to Rwanda.

When I raised this, the minister accused me of supporting smuggling gangs.

It’s the Tories who keep them in business by refusing to provide other routes to safety.

What young people need:

✅ Affordable housing
✅ Decent pay
✅ High quality education that doesn’t come with massive debt
✅ Action on the climate crisis

What they don’t need:

❌ To be forced to join the army or do unpaid work, on top of all their other responsibilities.

a) misdiagnoses the problem (and therefore makes it harder to combat and lets the culprits off the hook)
b) hurts other working class and/or disabled people, which undermines building solidarity in a mass movement against fascism.

It’s not “sick note culture” that stops people from working. It’s a mental health crisis and the state of the NHS, which the Tories left to crumble.

Stop punishing disabled people for your own failures, @rishisunakmp.

Nadia Whittome - 2.4K Likes - Rape has been effectively decriminalised.

Neither will plunging them into destitution. We need a welfare system that treats people with dignity. This #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, we don’t need platitudes. People struggling with mental illness need: – Well funded NHS services – A welfare system that doesn’t dehumanise them – An end to the stigma which the Tory government is perpetuating. Link in bio.

When I raised this, the minister accused me of supporting smuggling gangs.

It’s the Tories who keep them in business by refusing to provide other routes to safety.

Nadia Whittome - 1.7K Likes - It’s been the honour of my life to represent Nottingham East since 2019.

I’m standing for re-election as your Labour candidate. Let’s fight together for:

🏥 Better public services

👷🏼‍♀️ Decent pay and workers’ rights

🌎 A Green New Deal

🫱🏽‍🫲🏻 Equality and unity, not division

I am not currently an MP, as Parliament has been dissolved until after the General Election.
