Olwen Catherine Kelly Instagram - Happy Nude Year.
Olwen Catherine Kelly Instagram - Haven't been arrested... so far.
Olwen Catherine Kelly Instagram - To Breastfeed or not to breastfeed - that is the question...
Followed by many many more...

Which formula? Should I structure feed or feed on demand? Should I wake to feed? Can I breastfeed in public? Am I even making enough milk? Should I supplement Vitamin D? Should I pump? Which pump should I use? How often should I pump? When should I pump? Should I drink fenugreek tea? How long should I pump/feed/wait to introduce a bottle and/or soother? What the feck is nipple confusion? Should I allow comfort nursing (again, what even is that and how do I know when its happening)? What vitamins should I take?...

And so on and so forth...

These are just a FEW of the questions I have typed into google and laboriously pored over the results (mostly when I ought to be napping to make up for lost sleep).

The answer is - your baby, your rules.
This applies to all aspects, not just the topic of breastfeeding.

We started on formula and with much effort (and tears - mine, not Lucy Rose's) successfully converted to the boob.
This was the right thing for US and OUR baby.
We are still giving a bottle with expressed milk and sometimes formula.
This is how we plan to proceed and so far Lucy has been happy to switch between the two. 🤞
If that changes, it changes and we will accommodate the best choice to keep our baby healthy.

Whatever you choose to do - follow your instinct, ask for help or advise if you need it, be malleable - things don't always go the way you imagined they would, and most of all when you are a little further down the line and a 'seasoned' momma - remember that fear of doing something wrong with your little one and don't pass judgment or negative commentary on someone else's choices.

Olwen Catherine Kelly Instagram - I have a whole new appreciation for my body and the amazing things it can do since being pregnant. Whether or not I’ll ever be back to my pre pregs body remains to be seen but I suspect I’ll be just as nerdy [swipe for evidence].

Olwen Catherine Kelly Instagram - The best and hardest thing I have ever done.

Three and a half days of induced labour before Lulu graced us with her presence.
We learned later that the doctors had bets on as to what time I would ask for a cesarean and we saw so many shift changes that we've had a stream of staff visitors checking-in on us.
In hindsight I've no idea why I didn't ask for one but what else would my documentary maker hubbie have filmed on Saturday morning if it wasn't a human coming out into this world from my vagina?!

We also discovered that Sam wouldn't have been allowed to be with me for the induction period or recovery had Lulu arrived on her due date.
I do not believe I could have made it through without him by my side.

Thanks for holding out on us, Lulu 🌹

Thanks in advance for the rest of our lives together, Sam. ❤️
Olwen Catherine Kelly Instagram - Multi-tasking Mama.

Al fresco (baby) brunch ✔️
Nappy change (again, baby..)✔️
Upright snooze to reduce acid reflux (benefits me too because I can have some extra cuddles 💕) ✔️
Train dogs to hold parasol.. ❌

Life has been made infinitely easier out and about having our @pacapod changing bag - pictured here is the Chiltern which we are LOVING.

We had so much time during lockdown to get organised for the baby (silver lining to the fact I couldn't have my mum here for Lulu's arrival) that we have been able to get out and about with relative ease as soon as we (finally) got home from the hospital.

This, I feel has been really important for my adjustment to our new (MUCH IMPROVED) life with a newborn.

Admittedly I haven't made it terribly far from the house but getting some fresh air and a dose of sunshine has been lovely! ☀

P.s. You cannot be asked to leave a public space for breastfeeding, the law in the UK is always on your side to allow you to nurse your child.
I'm yet to have any eye rolls or tutting but I'm not sure I'd notice tbh. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I won't be any better at replying to messages and if I'm totally honest I just wanted an excuse to post a photo of my back like Geri Halliwell did that time... This is probably far less dramatic.

Olwen Catherine Kelly Instagram - L❤️VE - I didn't know there was anything missing in my life before you and your father came in to it.

*This is a third attempt to share a moment spent with my daughter captured by my partner.
My already out of focus nipple is now completely censored.
Swipe for the absolutely absurd reason someone reported my photo and why it was deleted by @instagram

I nourish my child's body with that nipple, her soul with interaction and our bond with skin to skin to contact.
When she is immersed in water and listening to my voice she sucks at the air (followed by her hand or thumb) because that is what she did when she was in the womb.
If you are offended by that, I am not sorry.

Olwen Catherine Kelly Instagram - This man and and this tiny tiny creature... ❤️

We have been on formula for various reasons - one being that the hospital environment post birth has proven too stressful for me to confidently express and a second that we needed to know Lucy Rose's intake as she wards off systemic jaundice*.
(*At some point in our labour, our blood mixed causing haemolytic disease of the newborn.)

Tomorrow it looks like we are outta this joint and I will begin pumping to try and get Lulu back on the breast (we did have a number of successful goes of colostrum in the first two days).
I will be sharing my breast feeding story with @medela_uk but in the meantime I need all of your tips and pointers to get my flow going.

Please comment much knowledge or slide in to my DMs.

Xx

Which pump should I use? How often should I pump? When should I pump? Should I drink fenugreek tea? How long should I pump/feed/wait to introduce a bottle and/or soother?

Caption : To Breastfeed or not to breastfeed – that is the question… Followed by many many more… Which formula? Should I structure feed or feed on demand? Should I wake to feed? Can I breastfeed in public? Am I even making enough milk? Should I supplement Vitamin D? Should I pump? Which pump should I use? How often should I pump? When should I pump? Should I drink fenugreek tea? How long should I pump/feed/wait to introduce a bottle and/or soother? What the feck is nipple confusion? Should I allow comfort nursing (again, what even is that and how do I know when its happening)? What vitamins should I take?… And so on and so forth… These are just a FEW of the questions I have typed into google and laboriously pored over the results (mostly when I ought to be napping to make up for lost sleep).

Olwen Catherine Kelly - 3.9K Likes - L❤️VE - I didn't know there was anything missing in my life before you and your father came in to it.

Olwen Catherine Kelly - 3.8K Likes - This man and and this tiny tiny creature...
