Oon Shu An Instagram - 👋👋👋🎨🧑🏻‍🎨Hello my dears!! Ok. So. I am a HUGE fan of Art Therapy. It is such a non-intimidating way to explore your feelings in a way that doesn’t even require words. Im simplifying what it’s like, but an example would be that your therapist gives you a prompt, and you respond to it in a medium you choose, could be crayons, colour pencils, paint, clay, etc. then from there, they may ask questions, or respond to what comes out. So amazing right?? My first interaction with it was I was still studying in LASALLE. I signed up to have Art Therapy given by the graduating students and it was such an eye opening experience!! I was gobsmacked to see how emotions could be explored with the starting point of doodles on a piece of paper. I wasn’t an artist, how did those scribbles mean anything?? Then a couple of years ago, I signed up for an introduction to Art Therapy course, and even then, my regular therapist noted that I had made different types of discoveries in Art Therapy. The freedom from words is something that I love, and the freedom to explore for creative and expressive purposes is just so enjoyable. The insights have always surprised me, how things in my subconscious find their way out. @theredpencilsingapore is so wonderful in providing these services to people from all walks of life who may not have access to it and will benefit from it. This Sunday Morning, the wonderful@nathanhartono, @anitakapoor and myself will be there with Licensed Art Therapist Christine Tok, and we would LOVE for you to swing by, find out more about art therapy, explore how creativity and mental wellness can work together, and just have a chat! I was gobsmacked to see how emotions could be explored with the starting point of doodles on a piece of paper. I wasn’t an artist, how did those scribbles mean anything?? Then a couple of years ago, I signed up for an introduction to Art Therapy course, and even then, my regular therapist noted that I had made different types of discoveries in Art Therapy. The freedom from words is something that I love, and the freedom to explore for creative and expressive purposes is just so enjoyable. The insights have always surprised me, how things in my subconscious find their way out. @theredpencilsingapore is so wonderful in providing these services to people from all walks of life who may not have access to it and will benefit from it. May it bring you all you need!! Expansion- Celebrations have been strange and precious for me these past few months. I think same as a lot of people, I have never felt this level of despair at the world in my life. But being with friends and family, holding and being with each other has also been what has filled my tank. On a personal level, there have been many things that I’ve actually been quite happy about that I maybe haven’t given enough space to. So i guess this is me practising expansion and how to hold both joy and pain at the same time, in a space/world that conditions us to feel either or. Oh!! I finally figured out my new year resolution: To not lose faith in humanity. lol. because to do so would be to surrender my own. I reject!! Hug a loved one, send a message to someone you love, buy an e-sim, say something good about someone to someone else, make a donation, share a story, witness, learn, enjoy life, laugh, do something nonsensical, question a held belief, challenge it, grieve for those in pain, grieve for those no longer here, connect with people who care about the same things, hold space, get angry about injustice, get compassionate, listen, do something about what you care about, put on something nice that makes you feel good, remind myself that I am human. Oon Shu An Instagram - Some things that have been coming up a lot for me have been the ideas of questioning who we’ve been taught to worship-people, positions, ideologies, institutions, etc. Who do we give power to, why do we give them so much power, who takes power, who we give a free pass to, who are we not allowed to question, who do we deify, who do we close an eye to and what are the ways we are coaxed out of our knowing that’s rooted in humanity into what we are told/taught. How was it so easy to accept the narratives and so difficult recognise and to unlearn? Learning how to seek the truth speakers, those with integrity, courage, the educators, the helpers, healers, lovers, and community. “Don’t ever lose hope in humanity because it requires you to concede your own and that we can never ever do.” @lsarsour thank you for these powerful words.

Im simplifying what it’s like, but an example would be that your therapist gives you a prompt, and you respond to it in a medium you choose, could be crayons, colour pencils, paint, clay, etc. then from there, they may ask questions, or respond to what comes out. So amazing right?? My first interaction with it was I was still studying in LASALLE. I signed up to have Art Therapy given by the graduating students and it was such an eye opening experience!! I was gobsmacked to see how emotions could be explored with the starting point of doodles on a piece of paper. I wasn’t an artist, how did those scribbles mean anything?? Then a couple of years ago, I signed up for an introduction to Art Therapy course, and even then, my regular therapist noted that I had made different types of discoveries in Art Therapy. The freedom from words is something that I love, and the freedom to explore for creative and expressive purposes is just so enjoyable. The insights have always surprised me, how things in my subconscious find their way out. @theredpencilsingapore is so wonderful in providing these services to people from all walks of life who may not have access to it and will benefit from it. Then a couple of years ago, I signed up for an introduction to Art Therapy course, and even then, my regular therapist noted that I had made different types of discoveries in Art Therapy. The freedom from words is something that I love, and the freedom to explore for creative and expressive purposes is just so enjoyable. Expansion- Celebrations have been strange and precious for me these past few months. I think same as a lot of people, I have never felt this level of despair at the world in my life. But being with friends and family, holding and being with each other has also been what has filled my tank. On a personal level, there have been many things that I’ve actually been quite happy about that I maybe haven’t given enough space to. So i guess this is me practising expansion and how to hold both joy and pain at the same time, in a space/world that conditions us to feel either or. Oh!! I finally figured out my new year resolution: To not lose faith in humanity. lol. because to do so would be to surrender my own. I reject!! Hug a loved one, send a message to someone you love, buy an e-sim, say something good about someone to someone else, make a donation, share a story, witness, learn, enjoy life, laugh, do something nonsensical, question a held belief, challenge it, grieve for those in pain, grieve for those no longer here, connect with people who care about the same things, hold space, get angry about injustice, get compassionate, listen, do something about what you care about, put on something nice that makes you feel good, remind myself that I am human. Love. Rage. Witness. Grieve. Celebrate. Connect. 🫶🍊🍊 ♥️新年快乐♥️

Caption : Have been very lucky this season to be surrounded by my loved ones, and been filled with lots of joy, strength, community. Also have much to be grateful for this year. How was it so easy to accept the narratives and so difficult recognise and to unlearn?
