Caption : Finding it hard to believe that PP was released nearly 20 years ago… I never thought that a day out in London with my mum (going to an audition, my first ever, attended only for the novelty) would have been such a significant turning point. A few months later, off we went to Australia to film. Here I am pictured in my dressing room, kind of taking it all in my stride/ not knowing what was going on, but that I’d end the day watching Nickelodeon with my little brother. We were best friends during the filming of Peter Pan (nearly 20 years ago 😱) and now we’re digital penpals across the pond. @iamcarsengray is one of the purest hearts out there, not to mention an incredible mama and musical talent. She’s the one who encouraged me to push through when I had feeding issues with my little Stella and the reason I’m still able to breastfeed now. I played Meredith, a puritan girl who needed rescued from scary demons by the titular character. We filmed in the beautiful Czech Republic countryside and froze our 🍑‘s off, but had a lot of laughs along the way. I also learned a few Czech words and phrases, one of which is the tongue-twister ‘Strč prst skrz krk’. I always thought it was something to do with firefighters but I just googled it and apparently it means stick a finger through the neck!?

Caption : I finally got to watch this beautiful film, and loved it. Such fantastic performances from @everanderson and @alexandermolonyofficial as Wendy and Peter. They truly made the characters their own. As a sort of Neverland alumni, I felt proud to witness this new version. The one that will make a whole new generation of kids fall in love with the magic. When my two children are a little older, I’ll be sure to show them this film. Many of the cast members of the 2003 Peter Pan are parents too, now – we grew up! A huge well done to all involved 💗

Caption : 🤳🏻 I took this pic a couple of weeks ago with the intention of posting it along with a positive message. Since then, with the whole Omicron of it all, I’ve just been hunkering down and being a social media creeper, doing lots of browsing of all my fave clothes brands to distract from the background hum of covid worry. 🎊 We had lots of pre and post Christmas plans for travel and socialising but have decided to postpone everything until things have settled again. It’s just everywhere, isn’t it!? 🦷 Meanwhile Stella’s getting her two front teeth just in time for Christmas (spare a thought for nursing mums of teething babies) and has a new habit of needing to claw my face (and gums!?) while falling asleep. Caption : How’s everyone? Here’s a diary extract from the last week. I’ve been a little quiet on here as I’ve been laid up in bed with some sort of flu 😷 it wasn’t the Rona (I’m fully vaccinated anyway) but still knocked me out. Thankfully Russ and my mum were around to take care of the kids. After being a bit concerned that Stella was on the small side (people keep commenting on how petite she is), she was weighed today and I’m really happy that she’s doing just fine. She’s not that into food so we’re taking it slow with weaning. 🍌 I often wonder if there’s more to my life than just my kids as since they’ve arrived, they’ve been the focus and dominant force. It’s oft-repeated but true that they are now the reason for everything I do, every choice I make. Everything from work to lifestyle, big decisions and small are (mostly) made to prioritise them. Obviously they’re the most important thing but sometimes I long for the time to really focus on something else. And not just for the hour after they go to bed. Idk this is turning into an essay now but just felt like sharing. 🌷

Something that would have once felt like a chore, is now a huge privilege to have the time to do. It’s been a while since I’ve worked anywhere but from home, and while that has its advantages, actually going to a nice building and being around professionals was such a treat! Even the sweaty morning tube commute felt like a luxury (especially after two nights of caring for a toddler with a stomach bug 😅) There’s such pressure (externally and internally) for mothers to live up to some ‘perfect’ ideal – whether that pertains to career, looks, parenting, anything. If you’ve been following me a while, you’ll know I’m keen to steer clear of perfectionism, and focus on doing what’s best for me and my family, whatever that looks like. While I’ve loved having so much time at home with my little ones (mostly), I’m starting to feel ready for the next chapter, the one beyond 24/7 motherhood. 🎧

Caption : So there’s something I’ve debated sharing about on here for ages. But if openness and honesty can help just one person feel less alone, then it’s worth it, right? 🤷🏼♀️ (TW: It’s on the sensitive topic of disordered eating). From my teens until a few years ago, I had a really disordered relationship with food. It wasn’t something I needed medical help with or anything, but it dominated my mind and life for waaaay too long. After my first child was born, I finally became ready to confront it and read ‘Just Eat It’ by @laurathomasphd which totally changed everything. It’s been a work in progress, but I’ve had sustained and blissful relief from the mental obsession that came with the binge/restrict cycle I was trapped in and have felt genuinely neutral about eating and my body since adopting the Intuitive Eating approach. ☀️ Over the Christmas holidays, I found myself slipping back into old ways and acting out (feeling/being out of control, overeating until it hurt on the regular, obsession, generally being weird about it all). Thankfully, I have enough self-compassion and desire to heal that I have recalibrated back into a more balanced, mentally peaceful state. Big middle finger to diets, it’s not about that, but returning to equilibrium and just getting on with my life and enjoying eating rather than being ruled by it. I wanted to share in case anyone else can relate and if so, point them lovingly towards the wonderful work of @intuitiveeatingldn as well as @diet.culture.rebel for really helpful professional guidance on Intuitive Eating and recovery ❤️🩹 from disordered eating. Please only take guidance on all things related to nutrition from qualified sources (doctors and registered dieticians/nutritionists) rather than ‘wellness influencers’ who’ll be extra noisy this time of year. Caption : Didn’t break a sweat on this morning’s run because it’s sooo cold! ❄️ Frozen ears and fingers! I’m not very good at running – not particularly fast, no amazing stamina. But I do it because it makes me feel better. I’ve never gone for a run and felt worse after… …but I know it’s not for everyone. As a Pilates teacher, I always recommend people find a form of movement they enjoy, and do that. Forget what you think you ‘should’ do. What do you enjoy? Now, two babies later, I’ve got the opportunity to work through whole new layers of self acceptance! (Yay 🎉😐) Jokes aside, my focus now is on feeling well, mentally and physically. Anything that has the opposite effect has to go. What with your skin being the biggest organ in your body and all, it’s worth taking care of. I’m loving the new Women’s Balance Body Collection* from @nealsyardremedies. Caption : ☀️ ‘I just want to feel how they look’ – how I used to feel about anyone I saw, online or IRL, who seemed to have it together. 🏝 Maybe they wore chic designer clothes, could contort themselves into spectacular yoga poses, claimed to live on smoothies and superfood salads. Whatever it was, I’d compare how I felt (a mess, chaotic, insecure, inadequate) to those I envied and end up feeling worse than I already did. Compare and despair. 🤷🏼♀️ In my experience, most people don’t actually know wtf they’re doing half the time, aren’t satisfied in all areas of life or feel emotionally stable, let alone that elusive idea of ‘happy’ (which I used to think meant elated, but actually can just mean calm). 💗 I’ve found it helps to focus on the things that are good in your own life, to live authentically, and nurture what’s important to you.
