Caption : I first met @delosreyeskamar on the set of Sleepy Hollow. I was lucky enough to have had him as a costar and even luckier to have kept him as a friend. He was one of the most uplifting, inspiring, positive people I’ve ever known. To know him was to know light in its purest form. I’ve never met a person who made you feel more seen, present, understood, validated, all the while reminding you the purpose of life and how lucky we were to be living in this world with all we have, no matter how much or how little. He was full of life, passion, wisdom, gratitude… I admired and respected him deeply and to say I’m utterly devastated by the news of his passing would be an understatement. My heart aches for his children and for his wife Sherri, whom at the mere mention of he would break into the biggest smile and clasp his heart; his love and pride for his family radiated out of him and my heart breaks for each of them and the incredible loss they’re suffering. Kamar really was one of the best people in this world. He never spoke a negative word about anyone or anything – EVER. He never made you feel self conscious or ashamed. He listened. He showed up. He helped out. He worked hard. He served humanity as much as he could in big and small ways. He was absolute LOVE and I think I speak for everyone who knew him when I say it was a lucky privilege to have had him in our lives. You were taken from us far far too early, my friend and I will miss you immeasurably. I promise to live every day with you in my heart and your beautiful voice in my head, and relish in every truly wonderful, warm memory I’m so grateful to have shared with you.

Caption : If you’re anything like me you’ve spent a lot of time trying to figure out who you are through the constructs of society, which are designed to help us easily and quickly assess and decipher who we understand ourselves or someone else to be. We do it based upon race, religion, politics, sexuality, gender, profession, income, birthplace, star sign! But, it often misguides us in the wrong direction while simultaneously complicating and clouding our understanding of who we, and others, are. We judge people instead of really getting to know the nuances that individualize them, and ultimately we do the same thing to ourselves. I’ve spent a lot of time recently mulling over false perceptions. Particularly how the one of myself and my interpretation of others’ perception of me have shaped my understanding of who I am and of my life in a limiting way. My empathic and impressionable tendencies have often cost me to negotiate against myself a number of times in both relationships and in business and thus, have held me back in ways I believe I could have excelled otherwise. I saw myself not as I was, but as the role I felt I should be playing instead. I felt shame when I should have felt pride. I trusted others at the cost of lying to myself. And, I made myself small so others could feel big. A lot of us do this to fit in or to feel accepted or to simply keep the peace even. But, every now and then something happens that removes the dirt from our lenses so we’re able to see clearly. But, what’s been one of the hardest things for us is hearing people remind us of how “lucky it is to have it rain on your wedding day” or that “no one has the perfect wedding” and things “always go wrong.” They go on then to share their experiences with us in an effort to relate and be helpful, which somehow has resulted in us feeling worse. The truth is, there are very few people who can offer any real empathy. After all, it’s a rare thing to have one, single couple build their own venue, then style, cook for, and coordinate their wedding themselves. Caption : In a year we worked our asses off and desperately needed a win, we felt completely defeated. It took some time, but I’m happy to say I’m finally at a point where I can look back, past the devastation enough to see what I missed in real time enough to celebrate it here. While choosing which photos to post from our photographer’s sneak peak and perusing photos shared from our guests, I saw photos of family and friends with shovels in their hands, pants rolled up, digging trenches. I saw our wedding guests staying despite the rain. I saw our bartenders relocating the bar three different times to three different places to keep the spirit(s) going. I saw the kitchen staff pivoting to turn our dinner service into a family style buffet so everyone could taste everything we made, instead of the one thing they ordered. I saw family members relocating flowers and decor to the inside of our home to make it more festive and beautiful for photos. I saw us making the most of the night once the storm had passed. I saw most of our guests returning the next day for brunch, where other family and friends attempted to right the wrongs of the night before by organizing. I saw our DJ driving back to the desert from LA to do the same, and our neighbors calling in favors for photographers to come get shots that were missing from the night before, free of charge. I saw family staying a little longer than planned before hitting the road to help us clean; our other neighbors bringing us soup and watching our dogs so we could recover while we were sick. Caption : For our first official day in #Phuket our friends @only1dust and @ployrungdebard treated us to a private driver who took us all over the city seeing all there was to see. There’s nothing like being shown around by locals, and we could not be more grateful to both of them for giving us the best first day ❤️ Photo 1 – @thekevinbarrett and I at #karonviewpoint Photo 2 – the view from #Karon viewpoint Photo 3 – the #BigBuddah in Phuket; believe me it is BIG. The tile work on the statue is absolutely astounding. Photo 4 – taking a photo with our golden trinket we hung on a tree on the grounds of the Big Buddah Phuket Photo 5 – the monks alms bowls at the Big Buddah Phuket You add baht to the 32 bowls for good luck & 32 healthy organs. So far, it’s seemingly worked 🤞🏻 Photo 6 – lunch at @khaorangbreezerestaurant was an absolute surprise and delight, treated to us by Ploy and Dustin DeBard ❤️ I was so excited to see the #view of the entire city from this amazing spot Photo 7 – after lunch we saw our first wild monkey!!! Photo 8 – #PhuketOldTown these 100 yr old buildings were such eye candy for #design. I was in heaven. Photo 9 – the delicious #dairyfree #icecream @torrysicecream in Phuket Old Town. O.M.G. It was gone too fast. And the brass woks they served it in? Must have.
