Caption : PT 2 I made my Grandmotherās gnocchi and bolognese recipes – from scratch, then transported it all to a different locationās freezer when our electric company had a scheduled outage in our area, two days before the wedding. We sorted through and compiled 17 hours of music for the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and reception. We went through over 20,000 photos to put together a slideshow of us with each of our guests. We even went to Costco – my least favorite place in the world – to get everything we needed for our signature cocktails, crostini bar, and flavored water. We enlisted the help of our families to lay down aisle runners, dry out then crush up flower petals to throw at our recession, polish silverware, and run last minute errands⦠all of this in addition to the enormous expense of hiring the people we did for rentals, photography, florals, DJāing, serving, and cooking. Everyone thought we were crazy and taking on too much, but we knew we could do it and ultimately we did. Weād gotten everything accomplished, had all the meetings with all the people to have everything orchestrated to run smoothly in the way we wanted⦠everything was covered. We couldnāt wait to finally relax, take in the fruits of our labor, and start the next chapter by celebrating with our closest friends and family. But the next day, down to the minute we were supposed to walk down the aisle, a flash flood took the desert by literal storm. Fifteen minutes of a torrential, unprecedented, and unseasonable downpour, forced 100 people into our modest home and us to abandon everything weād planned and worked so hard for. There would be little bridal party photos, no grand entrance, no dinner service under the stars, no speeches, no cake cutting, little dancing. Every single moment that makes a wedding a wedding was stolen from us by the weather. #disasterwedding #canhardlybarrett #wedding #weddingnightmares #bridal #joshuatreeweddingLikes : 813

I wanted to do a video of myself dressed as a cat coming out of my husbands magic bag (not a euphemism) to announce it, but I just couldnāt get it together in time. So, thank you @soapdigest for this lovely announcement, feature and interview, available on newstands this Friday. Iām so excited to reprise my role as Chelsea on #Days next Thursday. Caption : I first met @delosreyeskamar on the set of Sleepy Hollow. I was lucky enough to have had him as a costar and even luckier to have kept him as a friend. He was one of the most uplifting, inspiring, positive people Iāve ever known. To know him was to know light in its purest form. Iāve never met a person who made you feel more seen, present, understood, validated, all the while reminding you the purpose of life and how lucky we were to be living in this world with all we have, no matter how much or how little. He was full of life, passion, wisdom, gratitude⦠I admired and respected him deeply and to say Iām utterly devastated by the news of his passing would be an understatement. My heart aches for his children and for his wife Sherri, whom at the mere mention of he would break into the biggest smile and clasp his heart; his love and pride for his family radiated out of him and my heart breaks for each of them and the incredible loss theyāre suffering. Kamar really was one of the best people in this world. He never spoke a negative word about anyone or anything – EVER. He never made you feel self conscious or ashamed. He listened. He showed up. He helped out. He worked hard. He served humanity as much as he could in big and small ways. He was absolute LOVE and I think I speak for everyone who knew him when I say it was a lucky privilege to have had him in our lives. You were taken from us far far too early, my friend and I will miss you immeasurably. I promise to live every day with you in my heart and your beautiful voice in my head, and relish in every truly wonderful, warm memory Iām so grateful to have shared with you.Likes : 632

Iāve NEVER liked any headshot Iāve had and couldnāt believe how amazing these turned out! If youāre looking for headshots, please hire Jackson, it was the easiest, most comfortable, and successful shoot Iāve had in 20 years, and it absolutely THRILLS me to be able to say it. Caption : If youāre anything like me youāve spent a lot of time trying to figure out who you are through the constructs of society, which are designed to help us easily and quickly assess and decipher who we understand ourselves or someone else to be. We do it based upon race, religion, politics, sexuality, gender, profession, income, birthplace, star sign! But, it often misguides us in the wrong direction while simultaneously complicating and clouding our understanding of who we, and others, are. We judge people instead of really getting to know the nuances that individualize them, and ultimately we do the same thing to ourselves. Iāve spent a lot of time recently mulling over false perceptions. Particularly how the one of myself and my interpretation of othersā perception of me have shaped my understanding of who I am and of my life in a limiting way. My empathic and impressionable tendencies have often cost me to negotiate against myself a number of times in both relationships and in business and thus, have held me back in ways I believe I could have excelled otherwise. I saw myself not as I was, but as the role I felt I should be playing instead. I felt shame when I should have felt pride. I trusted others at the cost of lying to myself. And, I made myself small so others could feel big. A lot of us do this to fit in or to feel accepted or to simply keep the peace even. But, every now and then something happens that removes the dirt from our lenses so weāre able to see clearly. And when that happens, our new perceptions introduce us to a world more beautiful than we ever could have imagined. . . . . . . #thoughts #perception #perceptionisreality #dailylook #dailymotivation #weekendmood #reflection #reflectiongramLikes : 582

Caption : PT 6 These are the photos I would have posted if I wanted to subscribe to the social media norm. But, staying silent & lying by omission is something Iāve quite frankly, grown increasingly bored by the last couple years & its not authentic to me or my spirit at all. Since posting our story Iāve received so much outreach, love, and support from my followers & fans, not to mention people Iāve reconnected with as a result of something that now uniquely & intimately bonds us. Our wedding continues to bestow upon me the gift of a growing, quality community, and a true understanding of what it means to have a life well lived. Contrary to what weāve become accustomed to believing, success cannot and is not attained by superficial or monetary gain, the public display of seemingly perfectly celebrated milestones, or highlight reels that mislead and cause others to believe theyāre alone in their completely normal & common trials & tribulations. It is only through true connection & community, and by being our raw & honest selves that weāre able to thrive. My decision to post our story was not just to recognize the people we love, but the people like us who hesitate(d) showing their warts for fear of embarrassment or falling short in comparison to their peers. But, I have some news for you! Doing so is how you find your people. Sure, there will be those who, through certain comments, try to add salt into a wound that in reality, is their own, but it will only affirm your prosperity. Another thank you to all who surrounded us making our day the best it could be. We felt so moved, humbled, and strengthened by your love. And a special thank you to those we hired- you went above & beyond your call of duty & we could not be more grateful. Especially you @adrianam80 @chef_k8watson @jonathan.bailey.12720 @nigelroman_ and of course @wildhoneyphoto our photographer, who did an incredible job despite all she had to work with. Weāre so grateful for such a talented team of phenomenal individuals who we also get to call our friends. We love you all! . . . . . . #wedding #desertwedding #joshuatreewedding #disasterwedding #desertdisasters #weddinghorrorsLikes : 552

To have witnessed and felt that level of love from so many different people from so many different walks of our lives and all at once, is beyond overwhelming and humbling. These may not be the pictures I expected to share of our wedding, on pinterest, in our portfolio, or on my social media, but they are exactly what photos should and used to be – a reminder of how much love we have surrounding us in moments we will quickly forget, and how much of a driving force that is for a life well lived to begin with. And what could be better than that? . . . . . #wedding #desertwedding #joshuatree #joshuatreewedding #disasterwedding #desertdisasters #weddinghorrors #loveLikes : 461

Caption : PT 3 For the next week, Kevin and I cleaned our house multiple times, trying to remove the mass amounts of mud from our floors and rugs. When we finally finished about a week later, we both got Covid for the first time, just days before we were supposed to board a plane for our honeymoon – which, obviously, we had to cancel. As if that werenāt enough, while we were sick, our dog ODāed on weed heād gotten into while we were in the shower and almost died. The day after, our water main broke. About a week after that, Kevin broke his leg. Did I mention he also got stung by a scorpion for the first time the week before our wedding? You just canāt write this shit, folks! Needless to say, itās been a very trying time for us and incredibly painful to revisit the photos we do have enough to post them to social media. Photos of a ceremony we attempted to salvage consist of bright orange, home depot buckets weighing down soccer tents that block the beautiful mountain views we designed everything around, while mud stained fabric pulls focus from the dresses and florals of those struggling to walk down a muddy aisle. Subtleties and nuances woven in and our of plans for the night, like our remembrance candle listing all of those we and our guests had lost over the years, went undocumented if not unnoticed. But, whatās been one of the hardest things for us is hearing people remind us of how ālucky it is to have it rain on your wedding dayā or that āno one has the perfect weddingā and things āalways go wrong.ā They go on then to share their experiences with us in an effort to relate and be helpful, which somehow has resulted in us feeling worse. The truth is, there are very few people who can offer any real empathy. After all, itās a rare thing to have one, single couple build their own venue, then style, cook for, and coordinate their wedding themselves. We donāt expect people to truly understand the level of heartbreak and disappointment we felt and still feel, and we donāt expect them to have the words to comfort us. . . . . #disasterwedding #canhardlybarrett #weddingnightmare #joshuatreewedding #flashfloodwedding #joshuatree #weddinghorror #weddingLikes : 407

Caption : In a year we worked our asses off and desperately needed a win, we felt completely defeated. It took some time, but Iām happy to say Iām finally at a point where I can look back, past the devastation enough to see what I missed in real time enough to celebrate it here. While choosing which photos to post from our photographerās sneak peak and perusing photos shared from our guests, I saw photos of family and friends with shovels in their hands, pants rolled up, digging trenches. I saw our wedding guests staying despite the rain. I saw our bartenders relocating the bar three different times to three different places to keep the spirit(s) going. I saw the kitchen staff pivoting to turn our dinner service into a family style buffet so everyone could taste everything we made, instead of the one thing they ordered. I saw family members relocating flowers and decor to the inside of our home to make it more festive and beautiful for photos. I saw us making the most of the night once the storm had passed. I saw most of our guests returning the next day for brunch, where other family and friends attempted to right the wrongs of the night before by organizing. I saw our DJ driving back to the desert from LA to do the same, and our neighbors calling in favors for photographers to come get shots that were missing from the night before, free of charge. I saw family staying a little longer than planned before hitting the road to help us clean; our other neighbors bringing us soup and watching our dogs so we could recover while we were sick. What I ultimately saw was an entire group and community of people who love and support us so fully, they were willing to go above and beyond come hell or literal high water, to celebrate us – both rain AND shine. . . . . . . #disasterwedding #wedding #weddinghorrors #weddingnightmare #joshuatree #joshuatreewedding #desertwedding #desertdisaster @kelleyjakle @brilikesbikes @happyhealthyjamielauren @kellylaurenlayman @enjoy_the_goodlife @thejessmelvin_howard12 @camerongharaee @jameslagrappe @wildhoneyphoto @markhapka @ladesignerLikes : 356
