Caption : Plonked here on a frigid cold bench at Paddington station. February in England is not for pansies. Pausing in between connections. Anyone whos from London will be aware of the familiar scent of burnt rubber from the tracks that has an oddly comforting way of letting you know you are home. The soporific toxic blanket has pushed me into a place of temporary, sedentary introspection. Taking a small beat to stand back from the ever escalating global debacle running amok on the world stage, to acknowledge what has been a motherfucker of a couple of weeks. No need for details, suffice to say there’s been no shortage of death, blood and tears. A younger more fragile version of myself would not have stood a chance enduring the tornado of shite with even a fraction of the decorum and will that I’ve had to muster to defeat the Orcs, which have been out in droves this past fortnight. I know we’re all up against them right now, which is why I’m putting this out there. I can honestly say that without the five years of sobriety (to the month), five years of clarity, serenity, and grounding that I have under my belt, I would have been UTTER toast. Sobriety for me was about removing the poison that rendered me incapable of keeping the dark and malicious entities out of my life, so they couldn’t reach me or hurt me anymore. It’s an added bonus that my life has become immeasurably more peaceful, and insurmountably brighter. There are frankly too many pros to even list. But those who know… know… If there was one single gift that I could go back and give a little me that sat on this very bench so many times in so many different incarnations of searching and longing, the first thing I would tell her would be that alcohol and drugs are not the route and while blood may run thicker than water it does not define who your family are. I am not just 5 years sober I am 5 years clearer five 5 brighter five 5 stronger Five 5 wholler (not a word) and 5 years more unfuckable with. Caption : 10 years ago to the month I walked away from one of many absurdly garish red carpet Press junkets, peeled off my vacuum sealed designer dress, scrubbed off my suffocating mask that I’d plastered on for 25 years and bolted for JFK airport as fast as I could. And so the dismantling of a version of myself commenced… After making one phone call and by listening and adhering to an unfamiliar yet all-knowing pull towards a surrendering and letting go of what and who I thought I was, so to make space for who I am and am still in the process of becoming…. I found myself at one of your indescribable gatherings on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. Where man and mammal partner as one. It was the essential brick in a road that has been paramount in paving the path that has finally guided me back home. Caption : The annual Odyssey from Southern to Northern Hemisphere, summer to winter back to my place of birth currently on a British Rail train, swaddled in fluff and jacked up on Yorkshire Gold Tea en route to a very chilly Manchester….! this time on a quest for my equine beloveds… After an already hugely intense year on the farm with the droughts, to add insult to injury our neighbors in Argentina have just been hit by a fatal outbreak of a disease that has not been seen for decades, called equine Encephalitis. Horrifc and debilitating Neurological symptoms and 90% fatality rate In horses. No cases have yet been identified in Uruguay but it it’s only a matter of time as the disease is spread by mosquitoes which are obviously impossible to contain. So we are really up against the clock as currently there are no vaccines in Argentina or Uruguay. While waiting for the vaccines to be shipped from Brazil I will be hoping to raise money for the orphanage for the year ahead as well as for the vaccines of which all 30 of the kids will need 2 doses. I’m generally not a fan of 💉 as most do more harm than good, so am very selective of which ones we give but this is one of the effective ones and actually does what it says. Caption : The Irony that out of the 9 dogs currently in our pack which are all rescues and strays of varying breeds and backgrounds unequivocally and undeniably the most sensitive and attentive and easiest to train have been the Thunder Pig Killer Potato’s Auberon and Ludo. AKA the XL Bully ‘Types’ we flew down to our Orphanage of Misfits (sanctuary) here back in January. Those who have been following me know about the UK ban and mass executions so I don’t need to go into details. Suffice to say, having lived with these two lads for four months now if I had my druthers , my absolute number one choice of dog would be a bully ‘type’ (coupled with a Staffordshire Terrier,) every time. They simply are the most wonderful, sensitive, loyal and Funny dogs. It says more about the human who either judges them based on appearance, cultural prejudice (and racism), ignorance and media propaganda, or those who can’t handle them because they can barely wipe their own backsides let alone look after a dog, than the breed themselves. I can hands-down say every second with these boys has been a pure joy. A little bit of work, like raising any child, but pure joy. Testament to the existing pack and a little bit of structure, consistency, safety, no bullshit and guidance from us and we have had zero issues even with the horses and chickens and a new un-neutered Terrier male in the mix… Go figure…. It goes without saying there should be a hefty punishment imposed on anyone dumping and or abusing dogs (of any breed) not to mention backyard breeders. Those who have been following me know about the UK ban and mass executions so I don’t need to go into details. Suffice to say, having lived with these two lads for four months now if I had my druthers , my absolute number one choice of dog would be a bully ‘type’ (coupled with a Staffordshire Terrier,) every time. They simply are the most wonderful, sensitive, loyal and Funny dogs. It says more about the human who either judges them based on appearance, cultural prejudice (and racism), ignorance and media propaganda, or those who can’t handle them because they can barely wipe their own backsides let alone look after a dog, than the breed themselves. I can hands-down say every second with these boys has been a pure joy. A little bit of work, like raising any child, but pure joy. Testament to the existing pack and a little bit of structure, consistency, safety, no bullshit and guidance from us and we have had zero issues even with the horses and chickens and a new un-neutered Terrier male in the mix… Go figure…. It goes without saying there should be a hefty punishment imposed on anyone dumping and or abusing dogs (of any breed) not to mention backyard breeders. Their crime? Looking a certain way. The breed in question is the XL Bully who due to the mismanagement, ignorance and failure of human beings is now being demonized and tarred with a brush resulting in the determination that all that come under a certain (hugely vague) criteria are either to live a life muzzled or put to death. The compensation and incentive by the genius UK government is to offer owners a £200 compensation for murdering their healthy, beloved family members. The utter dystopian insanity of this mandate is not only a pitiful reflection of the desperate shortcomings of our system but the utter spinelessness of the people to allow and even champion this action. It’s no different and completely akin to saying all men with dark skin and curly hair who talk a certain way are terrorists. Therefore must all go. Absolutely no different. It’s Racial Discrimination 101. This only empowers the vile and rampant undertones that are already so rife between humans and humans let alone human and animal in a time where unification and forging solutions is and should be our utmost priority. And yes, there are solutions. There IS another way. Caption : There is a convenient myth about horses that are sent to slaughter. That their days are done, they are old or broken in some irreparable way from their mostly enslaved lives played out as tools for human gain. The reality is far from that. Django here was a 3 year old Criollo stallion. One of the most pure and perfect examples of vitality and life. He was used for breeding and his previous owner was done with his services so like the 6,000 others a month was being sold for meat thats shipped to France, Belgium and China for human consumption. Seconds before the hammer went down at auction his value was $160 USD. Taking on stallions is no easy feat but we couldn’t leave him behind. He now lives an autonomous life in the wild in the Monte here on the land with the herd and his two daughters Noor and Tormenta. Caption : We did it 💪🏾 Takes a small and wonderful Army but the boys are booked on their flights and heading south! Truly, with all the horrors going on around the world right now, to those who have helped set Ludo and Aubie free so they can live a life they deserve, we thank you. There ARE Angels and beautiful humans out there. Thank you for showing up. The attempted legal injunction failed as of today so these boys were definitely on the chopping block as will be tens of thousands others who are not even XL Bully’s. We still have a way to go. There are crates, trucks, vet checks, planes, boats and customs to all contend with but by early January those boys will be living the dream. Dog runs are being built and houses also. Caption : So this sassy little widget rocks up at the gate like butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth, after disappearing into thin air eight months ago! We had written her off for either stolen and used as a hunting dog, shot by Neighbours for messing with sheep, or caught in fencing somewhere… She’s never left our thoughts and hearts, and every brindle dog we saw on the road we stopped reversed or U-turned and scoured like maniacal stalkers. Turns out, she’s been living the life of Riley two farms away where an employees little girl had been feeding her cookies, specifically alfajores, if you know, you know. They are fairly irresistible… Of course Selkie wasn’t going to come back in a hurry but she was delighted to see us all which was at least some comfort. They renamed her obviously and as she’s been living with them now for the last eight months, they put an ad on social media the day after she went missing that was almost identical to ours… (how they missed ours is slightly questionable , but we’ll turn a blind eye as shes been treated very well) Funny the stories we create in our minds… Many of you had been asking and truly we have been stumped. We have decided, to give her back to the little girl, it’s the best possible outcome for everybody. she remains in our neighborhood, safe and loved by people who adore her. At the end of the day, sometimes we are just a pitstop for some creatures, a safe haven on their journey, the only thing that we ask is if they should ever run into any issues that she be returned to us, where she will always have a loving home and family. ‘This being human is a guesthouse…. Caption : A gaucho who lives in the local Pueblo asked us if we wanted to take a couple of chickens who weren’t having such a good time. As the majority of ours have been schnarfed by skunks and foxes this last year, we weren’t gonna say no. apparently, they’re good layers.. 🍳 🥚 🪺 Welcome little ladies! Chicks in a bag! @thelastarkorphanage disclosure- the chickens are absolutely fine, (for the chicken Karens) there are parts of the world where people who are less fortunate manage animals differently.
