Saba Douglas-Hamilton Instagram - URGENT CALL TO ACTION: PETITION TO THE PRESIDENT OF TANZANIA

For those horrified by the recent trophy hunting in Tanzania of Amboseli cross-border bulls, please help! Your signature holds immense power.

Please sign and share a crucial petition - see link in bio or search for Stop Trophy Hunting in N Tanzania to Save Amboseli's Migratory Elephants on Avaaz.org - put together by @WildlifeDirect, @ElephantVoices, @amboseli_trust and @savetheelephants

This petition is also backed by a unified coalition of signatories from Kenyan-based Conservation NGOs, wildlife filmmakers and photographers, and safari companies. We are all raising our voices for the protection of these magnificent creatures - please do so too!

Bulls like 34 year old Esau (photo with Kilimanjaro in the distance) are in acute danger. See map showing movements of 8 collared bulls from Amboseli deep into Tanzania. Three more elephant permits have just been issued for trophy hunting in the West Kili/Natron area. The bull shot in Sept '23 has now been identified by the Amboseli Trust for Elephants as Gilgil. He was 35 years old and only just entering his reproductive years. We've asked for transparency from Tz, but the hunters burnt the carcasses to hide the evidence. We suspect the other two bulls were also from the Amboseli cross-border population. For now Esau is still alive and has been fitted with a radio collar by an alliance of Kenyan conservation NGOs. Tanzania must honour the 30-year agreement to protect these iconic and increasingly endangered bulls. See article from a Tanzanian newspaper in 1995 mentioning the moratorium on killing. Please sign & share. Thank you! THIS HAS TO STOP!

Saba Douglas-Hamilton Instagram - On this day, many moons ago, my mother's waters broke at Ndala research camp in Manyara national park, Tanzania. She didn't have a clue what was going on but luckily her friend, Nani Croze, knew immediately what to do!

I was a breech baby, so they had to fly across the border to Kenya for an emergency c-section ... which is why I was born in Nairobi.

All these years later, I feel utterly blessed to have such an amazing family and so many wonderful friends in my life. My incredible parents, my beautiful sister Dudu, my brilliant husband and three exquisite daughters, plus all our cousins, uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, and the many adoptees we've gathered into our herd along the way.

I am now considered a mature "matriarch" in elephant years.

So in admiration of the many super-impressive matriarchs that have come before me, I formally accept that one must age with grace. And I am supremely grateful for every sunrise and sunset, each new and full moon, the beauty of the living world around us, the joy of all my human and animal relationships that weave meaning into each moment, and the love, trust and loyalty from our extended kinship group that makes me feel so secure and strong.

Thank you Mama and Papa for bringing me into this world to experience life in all its colour, emotion, intensity and beauty. Many blessing from N'kai to everyone I know, and especially to all those I love. ❤️

Saba Douglas-Hamilton Instagram - One of my absolute favourite photos of my Papa. 💚

Taken in Manyara NP, Tanzania, in the late ‘60s - where he did his initial groundbreaking research - with the lovely Virgo, an irrepressibly curious and friendly female who was part of the great Boadicea’s family.

Saba Douglas-Hamilton Instagram - My parents on their wedding day in Scotland, on the Isle of Raasay. A bond that has lasted a life time, and seen them through a thousand adventures.

There is so much love in this moment and I feel so lucky to have been born of this exceptional pair bond.
Saba Douglas-Hamilton Instagram - URGENT!! The distressing news has reached us from Arusha sources that another elephant hunt has commenced in the Enduimet area in northern Tanzania where many of the Amboseli elephants frequent. This comes just four weeks after the third male elephant was killed in the same area and despite all our collective efforts to put a stop to it.

The Governor of Kajiado County has voiced his concern on this, and we now urge Kenya’s other leaders and people to urgently speak out and put an end to the killing of the Amboseli elephants by trophy hunters in Tanzania!

PLEASE help us stop this madness! Sign our petition if you haven’t already - link in bio, and get the news out as widely as you can.
Saba Douglas-Hamilton Instagram - Am full of admiration for the Herculean efforts of the gorilla conservationists in Rwanda, Uganda and DR Congo, that brought these beautiful creatures back from the brink. From an estimated low of 250 in Dian Fossey’s time to over 1000 today (last census of 2016). Am deeply impressed also by the guides and trackers we’ve met - their discipline, passion, and profound respect for the gorillas, sharing this magical experience with such grace and sensitivity, and recruiting in turn hundreds of new allies each day from around the world. A conservation triumph at every turn!

In the divine presence of Silverback Uguranga from the Hirwa group.

Saba Douglas-Hamilton Instagram - Close to 10 years ago we made a delightful BBC series in Samburu called "This Wild Life" about all the crazy stuff that goes on behind the scenes @elephantwatchcamp. It's showing again this week on BBC2 in the UK. So if you missed it first time round, or are up for some fun family viewing, tune in at 15:45 each day this week. Hooray!! Some sparkling Samburu sunshine to brighten up the day! @susannahandslip @maxhugwilliams @kiricashell1 @davidjalenga

Caption : URGENT CALL TO ACTION: PETITION TO THE PRESIDENT OF TANZANIA For those horrified by the recent trophy hunting in Tanzania of Amboseli cross-border bulls, please help! Your signature holds immense power. Please sign and share a crucial petition – see link in bio or search for Stop Trophy Hunting in N Tanzania to Save Amboseli’s Migratory Elephants on Avaaz.org – put together by @WildlifeDirect, @ElephantVoices, @amboseli_trust and @savetheelephants This petition is also backed by a unified coalition of signatories from Kenyan-based Conservation NGOs, wildlife filmmakers and photographers, and safari companies. We are all raising our voices for the protection of these magnificent creatures – please do so too! The bull shot in Sept ’23 has now been identified by the Amboseli Trust for Elephants as Gilgil. He was 35 years old and only just entering his reproductive years. We’ve asked for transparency from Tz, but the hunters burnt the carcasses to hide the evidence. Saba Douglas-Hamilton - 1.8K Likes - On this day, many moons ago, my mother's waters broke at Ndala research camp in Manyara national park, Tanzania.

Saba Douglas-Hamilton - 1.5K Likes - One of my absolute favourite photos of my Papa. 💚

Taken in Manyara NP, Tanzania, in the late ‘60s - where he did his initial groundbreaking research - with the lovely Virgo, an irrepressibly curious and friendly female who was part of the great Boadicea’s family.

There is so much love in this moment and I feel so lucky to have been born of this exceptional pair bond.

Saba Douglas-Hamilton - 1.1K Likes - URGENT!!

Three days of magic with the love of my life. Even though he thinks I’m horribly smug about winning! ❤️
