The maker of my muppet is @bendhoward (am I missing other credits?). *The large animal on the piano is Gizmo the owl. They even got the fish tail right! (I was NOT into regular braids in 2002.) Vanessa Carlton Instagram - The rise of antisemitic rhetoric is heartbreaking and scary. I cannot pretend this isn’t happening. Now more than ever we need to speak out against antisemitism and hate. There was a time when my family felt compelled to hide their name in the shadows. I will do everything I can to make sure that never happens again. I thought this would be a good time to share with you my Jewish heritage and how it has influenced me and my work. Liberman, my fifth full length record was released seven years ago. Liberman was my Grandpa Allan's original last name. Allan was born in America in 1921. He was an artist. In 1940, during World War II, he joined the Air Force. When he returned from the War he decided he would change his last name (from Liberman to Lee) because he thought his business and his family would be safer if they didn't appear to be Jewish. He then opened a shirt business in New York City called Mather Shirts Ltd. The story goes, Ralph Lipschitz (who later became Ralph Lauren), a very young tie salesman, was enamored with the Mather Shirts showroom and was inspired by Allan's fabric choices and designs. My mother tells me that Mather Shirts was the first shop in NYC to make the Oxford button down shirt cut for a woman. I can't verify this information because everyone has passed but that is really cool. I am proud of my family and who we are. I am proud to be Jewish and with this album I wanted to shine light on our family name that lived in the shadows. Most of this music was written while I stared at one of my Grandpa's paintings. The painting in this post was in direct eye line when I sat at the piano. I would look at the colors and play. Music is medicine. Writing this record healed a part of me. I hope that Liberman soothes your mind and that it gives you the space to be who you are. Vanessa Carlton Instagram - I have been living out of a suitcase for a year and a half! Covid shot us into the stratosphere (or rather back to my hometown area). We lived in a furnished rental home for a year so that Sid could attend kindergarten at the incredible @homesteadschool in Glen Spey, NY (I am an alum!). I worked as a substitute teacher at the school for the year. It was a gift. Now, I believe we’ve found our forever house. We’ve been working hard on bringing this 223 year old house into full bloom. This is our daughters room on the second floor. (We are just starting to move in.)There are fireplaces in each bedroom in this Federal Colonial queen. We chose to leave this mantle fully exposed with a clear wood protector. Natural. I love the whimsy of artful human hands coming together with nature with little interruption. As my friend says, you are no longer just a homeowner, you are a curator now. We are indeed. And it is such a relief to be stewards of a wonderful home. I’m looking forward to unpacking & then rehearsing for shows!! 🤍🤍Thank you to my fellow dreamer and crazy talented designer/problem solver @hamiltongraystudio and thanks to the BEST building/restoration team in the biz @eshibuilders. We are just getting started!

Vanessa Carlton Instagram - I have been watching in horror over what is happening in Israel and Palestine. There is no statement that can cover it all. I’m sorry if I fall short on saying every thing I need to say. I denounce genocide. I denounce terrorism. I denounce anti-semitism. I denounce Hamas and its evil pogrom against Israeli civilians, which was the largest slaughter of Jewish people since the Holocaust. I denounce any retaliatory violence by Israel that does not differentiate between Hamas terrorists and the Palestinian civilians who are trapped under Hamas's reign. I pray for a cease fire and for the Israeli government to immediately negotiate the return of the hostages taken by Hamas. My heart bleeds for all of the wounded and killed. I am filled with sadness that there are people on both the right and the left who will not acknowledge the humanity and tragedy of all who have been murdered. A child is a child is a child; whenever one is killed, Israeli or Palestinian, it is a cataclysm. Palestinians deserve to be free from Hamas. The state of Israel has the right to exist. When the war started I checked in with him and he said he had gone to a family home outside of the city and that he was doing ok. I’ve checked in with him a few times since but no answer. I am, of course, not a priority for him in terms of communication right now. I’m simply a fan of his Etsy shop. Given what we are seeing the Russians doing, I can’t help but fear the worst. I think of you everyday my Ukrainian friend. i love your shop. ❤️❤️❤️ A couple things I’ve been wanting to say: -Putin’s war is evil (not news) and someone needs to increase the price on his head. -I hope the world looks at ALL refugees with the same respect we give these incredible Ukrainian people. Long live Ukraine and FUCK PUTIN. Ps. These stairs lead to our wonderful attic space which is a guest area and we would take in a Ukrainian family in a heartbeat, as I’m sure many Americans would. Vanessa Carlton Instagram - Perhaps the book that has re acquainted me with reading like a human being again (rather than a raccoon where I go from back to front reading chunks of chapters #adhd). This book is astonishing. An honest portrayal of the roller coaster that is a mother/daughter relationship. Also, Michelle writes about food in a way where I am somehow starving for Korean foods I’ve never tried even after downing a king size peanut M & M bag. I cried a few times throughout this book. The last cry was during her thank you’s. She’s that kind of writer: artful, sensorial, utterly captivating and most importantly she never tells you how to feel, she just let’s you feel it. @jbrekkie just laid it down. Pick it up.

I will do everything I can to make sure that never happens again. I thought this would be a good time to share with you my Jewish heritage and how it has influenced me and my work. Liberman, my fifth full length record was released seven years ago. Liberman was my Grandpa Allan's original last name. Allan was born in America in 1921. He was an artist. In 1940, during World War II, he joined the Air Force. When he returned from the War he decided he would change his last name (from Liberman to Lee) because he thought his business and his family would be safer if they didn't appear to be Jewish. He then opened a shirt business in New York City called Mather Shirts Ltd. The story goes, Ralph Lipschitz (who later became Ralph Lauren), a very young tie salesman, was enamored with the Mather Shirts showroom and was inspired by Allan's fabric choices and designs. My mother tells me that Mather Shirts was the first shop in NYC to make the Oxford button down shirt cut for a woman. I can't verify this information because everyone has passed but that is really cool. I am proud of my family and who we are. I am proud to be Jewish and with this album I wanted to shine light on our family name that lived in the shadows. Most of this music was written while I stared at one of my Grandpa's paintings. The painting in this post was in direct eye line when I sat at the piano. I would look at the colors and play. Music is medicine. Writing this record healed a part of me. I hope that Liberman soothes your mind and that it gives you the space to be who you are. We lived in a furnished rental home for a year so that Sid could attend kindergarten at the incredible @homesteadschool in Glen Spey, NY (I am an alum!). I worked as a substitute teacher at the school for the year. It was a gift. Now, I believe we’ve found our forever house. We’ve been working hard on bringing this 223 year old house into full bloom. This is our daughters room on the second floor. (We are just starting to move in.)There are fireplaces in each bedroom in this Federal Colonial queen. We chose to leave this mantle fully exposed with a clear wood protector. Natural. I love the whimsy of artful human hands coming together with nature with little interruption. As my friend says, you are no longer just a homeowner, you are a curator now. We are indeed. And it is such a relief to be stewards of a wonderful home. When the war started I checked in with him and he said he had gone to a family home outside of the city and that he was doing ok. I’ve checked in with him a few times since but no answer. I am, of course, not a priority for him in terms of communication right now. I’m simply a fan of his Etsy shop. Given what we are seeing the Russians doing, I can’t help but fear the worst. I think of you everyday my Ukrainian friend. i love your shop. ❤️❤️❤️ A couple things I’ve been wanting to say: -Putin’s war is evil (not news) and someone needs to increase the price on his head. -I hope the world looks at ALL refugees with the same respect we give these incredible Ukrainian people. Long live Ukraine and FUCK PUTIN. Ps. These stairs lead to our wonderful attic space which is a guest area and we would take in a Ukrainian family in a heartbeat, as I’m sure many Americans would. UPDATE: Andriy got back to me! He apologized for the delay (can you imagine?). He has joined territorial defense and as of March 31 is alive.

This book is astonishing. An honest portrayal of the roller coaster that is a mother/daughter relationship. Also, Michelle writes about food in a way where I am somehow starving for Korean foods I’ve never tried even after downing a king size peanut M & M bag. I cried a few times throughout this book. The last cry was during her thank you’s. She’s that kind of writer: artful, sensorial, utterly captivating and most importantly she never tells you how to feel, she just let’s you feel it. @jbrekkie just laid it down. Pick it up.
