Earlier this week, we called our friend and told her that we think she’d make a fantastic President of the United States. We’re proud to endorse Vice President @kamalaharris to be our Democratic nominee. Let’s go make history again.
Joe Biden has been one of America’s most consequential presidents, as well as a dear friend and partner to me. Today, we’ve also been reminded – again – that he’s a patriot of the highest order.

With summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that I’ve been listening to lately – and it wouldn’t be my playlist if it didn’t include an eclectic mix. I hope you find something new to listen to!

“The sacred cause of this country is larger than any one of us.” Joe Biden has stayed true to these words again and again over a lifetime of service to the American people. Thank you, @POTUS.
A Promised Land is out in paperback today — and if you haven’t already, I hope you’ll consider picking up a copy. I wrote this memoir to give readers like you an honest account of my first term in the White House while sharing more about my upbringing and journey getting there. Whether you’re reading it for the first time or re-visiting it, I hope you enjoy.

Governor @TimWalz doesn’t just have the experience to be vice president, he has the values and the integrity to make us proud. As governor, Tim helped families and businesses recover from the pandemic, established paid family leave, guaranteed the right to an abortion, and put common sense gun safety measures in place to keep communities safe. But Tim’s signature is his ability to talk like a human being and treat everyone with decency and respect — not all that surprising considering the fact that he served in the National Guard for 24 years and worked as a high school social studies teacher and football coach before being elected to Congress. Let’s do everything we can — volunteer, donate, organize — from now until November to help @KamalaHarris and @TimWalz get to the White House.
Like Vice President Harris, Governor @TimWalz believes that government works to serve us. Not just some of us, but all of us. That’s what makes him an outstanding governor, and that’s what will make him an even better vice president. Michelle and I couldn’t be happier for Tim and Gwen, their family, and our country.
Last month, I had a chance to meet with the men’s @usabasketball team before they went to Paris. So proud of them for bringing home the gold! Shout out to legends LeBron, Steph, and KD.
I’ve read some great books over the last few months and wanted to share some of my favorites. Let me know if you have any recommendations for books I should check out!
John Lewis loved this country so much that he dedicated his life to making it better. And he inspired generations of Americans, including me, to try and live up to his example. I first met John when I was in law school, and told him then that he was one of my heroes. Years later, when I was elected a U.S. Senator, I made sure he knew that I stood on his shoulders. When I was elected President, I hugged John on the inauguration stand before I was sworn in, reminding him that I was only there because of the sacrifices he made. And over the years, he remained a source of wisdom and encouragement to me, Michelle, and our family. Michelle and I are proud to honor John’s legacy at the Obama Presidential Center, where the John Lewis Plaza will provide a space for visitors to gather for years to come. It’s our small way to honor the remarkable legacy of a gentle, courageous man who did as much as anyone to bring this country closer to our founding ideals.

In his 2013 eulogy of Nelson Mandela, President @BarackObama challenged young leaders in Africa to embrace their own leadership power, and to continue the advocacy work Mandela started. This Mandela Day, we’re inspired by the incredible #ObamaLeaders, like Thokozile “Thoko” Nhlumayo, who have picked up the baton of change. Whether she’s promoting her #NotTooYoungToLead movement or advocating as Secretary General of the International Youth Parliament, Thoko is passionate about getting young people in Africa involved in political engagement and harnessing their own power for good. Throughout her time in the Obama Foundation’s Leaders Africa program, Thoko strengthened her leadership skills and made strong connections with other changemakers across the African continent. Sharing ideas, working through challenges, and offering advice to her peers became a constant in Thoko’s time in the program. “The biggest takeaway for me was learning how to use storytelling as a tool for my activism,” Thoko shared. “It was through the Leaders Africa program that I was brave enough to pen my story and finally became a published author, so that my story can be heard by many people like myself.” Thoko’s published story highlights the challenges she has faced, especially as a female, queer activist in Africa. “My heart yearns for a future where politics in Africa is truly a place of belonging for all,” Thoko wrote. “My fervent dream is that Africa will recognize that every individual has the capacity to make meaningful contributions to governance and the democratic process.” Last December, Thoko joined @MichelleObama for a special conversation with other #ObamaLeaders in South Africa. “It was such an empowering experience to gain from her wealth of knowledge,” Thoko said. “It was also amazing to reconnect with other #ObamaLeaders who are leading change across Africa.”

Poll workers power our democracy, helping voters cast their ballots and making sure elections are run smoothly. It’s incredibly important work, and we’re grateful for their service. Today is National Poll Worker Recruitment Day, which makes it the perfect time to sign up to work the polls and encourage your friends to do the same. You can learn more and sign up at the link in my bio.
