Summer 2023 Part 3 ❤️✅🙌🏼☀️ February is almost upon us which means back to work for me. I’d dedicated 3 months off to get myself back to my very best. Physically Mentally Spiritually and everything in between. I wanted to be present, present in myself to be attentive to all the things that mattered. Really really mattered. The road has not been without its bumps, but the finale of summer and this time was our trip away. The cherry on top. The reward for all the focus. It was full of joy, laughter, experience, trust, hugs, more laughter, the warmest cuddles and lots and lots of love. Every second of hard work and sacrifice was repaid 10 fold. Fatherhood has been an intense and incredible navigation, and the adventure just gets better and better. I truly strive to be a better teacher, listener, protector and friend among everything else. And I think we’re doing ok at that. Massive year ahead, bigger than ever before, and after this break, not only am I clear, rested, focussed and ready – I am completely clear on WHY I’m doing it. 🙌🏼❤️ A huge thanks to the team at the @langhamgoldcoast for again making it feel like home for us. We will be back soon! And I can say that you guys are 100% Little Langham Approved 🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼💪🏼 Now, let’s get to freakin work…. 👊🏼🔥
I rang Mum this afternoon and she answered in tears. “Are you ok Mum?” “Yes darling, I just read what you said about me in the magazine” Aw Bless. A few weeks back I’d taken part in a magazine feature – What I Know About Women – and had described her as, among other things, ‘dynamic, optimistic and extroverted, which often serves as a mask for a very deep, sensitive, intuitive soul’ I’ve been in the road with with The Woman in Black since late March, and after finishing up in Melbourne late last night was on the first flight back to Sydney this morning to pick up Austin, and to head later to Mums for an early dinner with the fam. The magazine was there, sitting proudly displayed on her kitchen bench. I’m not sure how much I truly know about women, but I am incredibly grateful to have been raised, and surrounded, by extraordinary females throughout my life. My Grandmother Grace, my Sister Brodie, my partner Jess and more. It was a bit special to be able to talk about them in today’s @sundaylifeau magazine. It made Mums day. Some days I just REALLY miss my beard 🧔♂️😔🤣
SYDNEY. After 17 consecutive weeks on the road – the final stop on the @thewomaninblackaus tour brings me home – I arrived this morning in fact! After two shows In Newcastle yesterday, I was looking forward to a sleep in, but alas my body having none of that. Wide awake at 5am, I was on the road early and an 8am coffee in Bondi and a jog along coast cleared the last of my lingering cold & congestion. It’s a pretty incredible city to return to. I was feeling particularly grateful this morning on my way to get Austin. Tour life has been awesomely huge. Testing and relentless, but so satisfying. Possibly more akin to a footy season – if April’s rehearsals were the preseason and touring the regular season, this next three weeks in Sydney at the Theatre Royal might just been our finals. John and I are match fit, sharp and precise, and both grateful to be working at this level on such brilliant material, alongside a wonderful touring crew. Toowoomba, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne, Canberra, Wollongong, Newcastle – A huge thank you for coming out and seeing us. Can’t tell you how great it is up there with you all! Sydney, now it’s your turn! The Woman In Black. Playing the @theatreroyalsyd from Tuesday until Saturday 17th August 🖤🙏🏼👻⚡️ Thanks for the cover & chat @lisamayoh, with shots by the unstoppable @justinavelingphoto 🙏🏼

Melbourne Week One… and man, what a week that was. Out of Perth after the final show, on 2 hours sleep to Sydney, then onto Melbourne – Press Day, Opening night & 7 shows in 3ish days 😵💫 Getting home to see Austin & Family in Sydney was a much needed shot of goodness, and with a side of Warren Brown thrown in. Soul Food. Into The Athenaeum in Melbourne with @thewomaninblackaus where we ticked off 50 shows for the tour so far! The Ath is a perfect home for this ghostly tale and it’s been a joy for John & I to watch audiences react to the experience 🙏🏼🖤 An absolute treat to navigate this weeks schedule out of the home away from home that is the glorious @langhammelbourne Sleep has been a high priority this past 7 days, but add in that buffet breakfast, and the spa/sauna combo on level 9 – Jess and I were absolutely spoiled and so so grateful. 🙏🏼🖤 Week two, and we return to regular programming! Into an apartment, back on stage in a few hours time and onwards we go…. With Gratitude ⚡️🙏🏼
Reliably informed by @imlukemckenzie that this was 10 Years ago! Wow! 🤯 After some 23 years in and out of the sport of triathlon – yes I started age 11 – Roth was my last crack at the Ironman distance. I’d been living in LA for a couple of years at this point, but had found myself spending far more time in the mountains of Malibu on my bike than I was prepping auditions or working on set. After racing Kona few years before, I’d taken a bit of a break from the Ironman thing – but here I was – back again with plenty of Ks in the legs, 10kgs lighter and ready to roll. I led my wave out of the swim and had a hot and hilly time of it on the bike, but halfway the through the marathon – I did something I had never, ever done before. I Quit. At the 22km mark – just when I was about to go into the hurt locker for the 6th time in an iron distance race – I realized I didn’t have it. The need. The hunger. The will to suffer. I stopped, looked around and realized that I was done with the sport. I had raced world championships at every distance, I’d ticked the Kona Box, travelled the world, made amazing friends and memories, but I was, in that moment…Done. Because even more importantly, I was on the precipice of a new challenge – working in the USA. I’d walked away from a very healthy career in Australia and I was so close to a bunch of big US jobs, but hadn’t cracked through yet – mainly because I was spending 25 hours a week pretending I was a pro triathlete. I stepped off the run course, got a couple of liters of IV fluid and decided that all the effort I had been putting into triathlon needed to go into my work. My acting. My career. I returned to LA a couple of weeks later, hung up my bike and turned all that effort and focus into my work. I was more productive in that next 3 months than I had been for the previous 3 years. I got my first US gig less than 3 months later. I miss this sport sometimes, but I’m forever grateful for all it gave me. ⚡️♥️🙏🏼 #Triathlon #Challenge #Roth #Ironman #Throwback
