I didn’t have to think about it for long when Charley asked me if I’d be the climber for his creative project. All he asked is for me to climb The Mallory up the Aiguille du Midi, (which most of you know is my favourite training route anyway😜) but with a small twist…by night to show the line and the constellations above. What do you think of the result? . 🎥: @charley.radcliffe 🧗: @david_goettler . #timelapse #nightphotography #stars #climbing #mountain #mallory #chamonix #aguilledumidi #neverstopexploring @thenorthfacede @thenorthface
Always remember, if flying or skiing aren’t an option to get down down quickly, sliding on your bum might be next best 😉. Speedy descending from just below 7000m after our summit attempt. . #neverstopexploring @thenorthfacede @thenorthfaceuk @leki.ski.outdoor @julbo_eyewear #NangaParbat #expedition #8000 #noO2 #alpinestyle
The moment at which you cross from the Rupal side to the Diamir side of Nanga Parbat is a very special one. Looking down the enormous Diamir face, it’s possible to see some tiny dots on the valley floor that are the Base Camp of the normal route. Looking ahead, the endless, undulating traverse stretches before you. This moment is still vivid in my mind and provides all the motivation I need to get stuck into my training back at home. . 📸: #1: @tiphaineduperier #3: #BorisLangenstein . #neverstopexploring @thenorthfacede #expedition
Day 4: this was the planned summit day, from our camp at 7400m on the Rupal face, crossing over to the Diamir side, along and up to the summit and back. Again it sounds not so bad in words, but in reality this route is incredibly long, complex and challenging. Everything feels much, much bigger on this mountain despite that it’s not one of the highest 8000m peaks. Further along the ridge from our camp but at an altitude of about 7400m @tiphaineduperier , #Boris and I crossed over onto the Diamir side of the mountain which is west facing. From this point all you see is the never ending traverse ahead of you, undulating up and down across the upper slopes of the Diamir face. We kept moving for several hours breaking through the snow up to the knee with each step. At about 7550m we decided that with these slow, exhausting conditions it was clear that we didn’t really have a chance. The summit was still hours away, and the way back would be just as relentless and long, with the same small uphills to overcome but in a much more exhausted state. We turned around and even from where we were, it was a long way back to our tents at 7400m on the other side. Judging by how exhausted we were when we got back to camp, it was clear that we made the right decision and I’m incredibly proud of how far we got, how hard we tried and the decisions we made. Far from being disappointed, this experience has galvanised my desire to climb Nanga Parbat in this style. Hopefully one day it’ll work out. . #neverstopexploring @thenorthfacede @julbo_eyewear @leki.ski.outdoor
As Aristotle said, “Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet”. With goals and endeavours like alpine climbs of himalayan peaks in winter, it’s not so much the patience required in base camp, but the patience required over years and years to hit that elusive sweet spot of weather and conditions. I know how sweet the taste of rewarded patience is, even if I taste it only very rarely, so I am more than happy to be patient. It’s part of the game and, for me, every bitter little pill to swallow is worth it. . #homeawayfromhome #basecamp #winterexpedition #himalayas #dhaulagiri #neverstopexploring #nepal @thenorthfacede @insta360 #oneR

I’ve spent the last 3 days doing some filming with BergaufBergab for a project I’m working on with @dauertom , Tom Mandl, Thomas (@berg_und_bild )and Anna-Luisa. Sharing some of my daily life with them has been fun but for me the real treat was spending a morning visiting @peter_habeler in his home valley of Zillertal. Peter, alongside Reinhold Messner, climbed to the summit of Everest without supplementary oxygen in 1978, the year I was born! 🤯. At that time nobody knew if it was even possible, but they proved it was. To talk about all things Everest with him has been a humbling, impressive and awe inspiring experience for which I’m really grateful. . 📸: @berg_und_bild . #bergaufbergab #neverstopexploring @thenorthfacede @team_edelrid @julbo_eyewear #kampenwand #skin3p #zillertal #everest #noO2 #peterhabeler

“I will only be happy if I climb this mountain in a style that stays true to my values. There is always some frustration having put in so much time and effort only to be knocked back without reaching the summit, but I know that this is simply part of the journey: part of what it means to Never Stop Exploring.” – @david_goettler After an intense 7 weeks without a favourable weather window to summit Nanga Parbat at 8156m, @mike_d_arnold carefully considered all options but ultimately decided to return home. “David on the other hand had the fire burning to stay.” However, at 7550m David was obligated to turn back. “This mountain has tested me for longer and more often than any other mountain. Twice in winter and twice in summer I have tried to climb it, but so far, I’ve not yet made it to the top.” #NeverStopExploring
Initially I thought this wouldn’t make such a difference, but actually has been the number one feature of the Vertix2S for me, especially on a remote expedition where you have to think carefully about what to charge and when. I never once worried about running out of battery. It didn’t matter how much I used it for navigating or tracking daily activities, as well as tracking my sleep and HR 24/7. It’s truly amazing and I have no idea how COROS does it, but somehow the battery is next level compared to any comparable watch I’ve had in the past. . #Vertix2S @coros_dach #batterylifematters #expedition #outdoors #exploreperfection @corosglobal
#NeverStopExploring
